Sabres get an asset for a player that was always complimentary of the organization but was never going to sign; and the player gets a little more intel about another organization. Win win. Best of luck to Portillo.

Returning to college and going this route is likely going to wind up like many others, a career mediocre player or one who washes out of NHL quietly within a few years.
