Depending on the protections it could be a nice pick if Bergeron and Krecji retire

Edit: Per the Bruins it’s top 10 protected in 2024

Damn I was hoping for Lysell, but a first for Bert? Not bad.

  3. I’ll take a first for a guy who:

    1) has obviously no interest in staying here.

    2) has gone to arb

    3) contract negotiations never got off the ground

    4) consistently put himself above the team

    5) has long term injury concerns

Would have loved Lysell, but I’m cool with this.

Not bad for an expiring contract we were going to lose for free.

  5. RedWong15

Im happy with this. He’s having a bad season and still looks borderline injured but got us the 1st we wanted.

Stevie has moved to building around the Seider/Raymond/Edvinsson/Cossa/Kasper core, with Larkin leading the way.

  7. zze0001

Lebrun also saying contract talks went nowhere in December.

I don’t think Steve is done. Gotta feeling a few of these pics might be used for something bigger.

  9. Oh_my_Butt

Solid deal. Glad to have moved on from Bert. Hope the Bruins end up sucking next year so we get a good pick

I can’t believe how strong the top 3 east teams are. Good luck to Bertuzzi chasing a cup.

  11. jfstompers

I guess the market for Bert wasn’t as big as everyone wanted to think

  12. Medievil_Walrus

Players not in the long term plans shipped away for first round picks in Hronek and Bertuzzi. This is good.

The fact that first round picks normally take 3-5 years to crack the NHL. This is scary.

I hope we can package some of these picks and prospects together and acquire elite NHL talent, because that’s the only way we’re gonna compete in our loaded division.

Everyone disliking the protected pick, if the protections activate, it likely pushes the pick out a year… Boston will likely get worse over the next few years as their window is right *now*.

  14. AffectionateMrPink

Two firsts this and two firsts next doesn’t hurt the rebuild. I’m a Bert fan but it appears he wasn’t gonna sign here so good value for a rental. Boston just got better if that’s possible.

  15. Life_is_a_meme_204

Over the next two drafts, Boston has one pick in the first three rounds.

  16. EvChaosBlaze

Detroit also retains 50% of Bertuzzi’s contract

  17. SaintUber95

I really like the fact Detroit has Boston’s firsts for the next two years. Having a division rival with no firsts for two years is nice, but with Detroit getting them makes it even better.

The cupboard is full of draft picks…

  19. I’m happy with this. We got a likely mid 1st round pick for a pending UFA that’s injury prone, is probably already in his prime, and either didn’t want to re-sign or wanted too much money. If the protection on the pick triggers next year, that could be an indication that Boston has finally started to regress, and having it move to 2025 in that case could end up working in our favor.

I love heart and soul guys like Bert, but it was never a good idea to have him as one of the core pieces of the team. He was one of the only guys to stick up for the team during these last few dog years and I’ll miss him sliding all over the ice. As others have pointed out, it’s time to start building around the younger guys with Larkin leading the way.

It’s a bit ironic that he’s going to Boston because he always seemed to get extra chippy against them.

  21. momarketeer

I’ll bite the bullet: someone please explain the concept of a protected/unprotected pick please? And more importantly, how it specifically applies here.

  22. JonJonesCrackDealer

the takes on the wings FB page are horrific lol yikes

  23. Stevie made sure to get Larkin’s contract done, and THEN traded his friend lol

  24. thefonzz91

They just resigned Pasta so I wouldn’t worry about the protection on the 2024 pick. Doubt it’s top 10

  25. onbiver9871

In a vacuum this is a decent haul for a pending UFA with both injury and arbitration history. But it does worry me that unless some of these picks are repackaged and flipped, there seems to be a tacit acknowledgement of the reality that the rebuild is going to be much extended. The type of picks we’re getting can’t be reasonably expected to pan out into NHL players before the next 3-5 years.

Give Kasper 2-3 years to come to fruition, Cossa at least that, and yeah… I guess we may be settling in to another few years of relative blech.

  26. Dave_The_Party_Guy

Objectively I get it and like it, especially if he wasn’t going to re-sign, but emotionally this one hurts

  27. patjs92

Hindsight 20:20 of course but wish we would’ve sold on him earlier. Either way it is great we got some assetsfor him so I’m not upset.

  28. LeonidasMclovin

Restocking the picks. Let Stevie Y cook. Extract every possible asset you can for expiring players.

  29. YellowShorts

This one stings. Bert wasn’t the best player but he brought the spark the team so often needed. I understand it though.

Now it’ll be interesting to see if Stevie uses some of these draft picks for another move.

  30. WearyDirt

I’ll miss you Bert ❤️ Don’t look on FB everyone. Funny how certain people with similar themes in their profile pictures built up a huge Bert-Stan post history in the fan groups only after he went anti vax. Idc if ur anti vax, but we know why ur so adamant he’s “the heart of this team” and it’s not his play. It’s like when all these people came out saying Gina Carano was one of the best actors on the show 😂
