As someone that’s received more second chances than they probably deserve, it hurts to see the wings basically give up on Vrana.
I know we don’t know the behind the scenes stuff, but yeah — grim week.
Rough going from playoff wildcard spot to sell the farm and suck for the rest of the year. I know we don’t really need any more players but it’s always fun when new faces join the team rather than just trading everyone for picks. I’m not suggesting we made the wrong moves, the rest of the season just seems bleek.
I’d like to see us make a move for Jordan Greenway. Much needed C depth who plays with a ton of grit. Only making $3M/year. Perhaps we move a performing Pius Suter whose on an expiring $3.25M/year deal and get us a gritty C with no need to retain salary.

I keep thinking about how good this team would have been if we didn’t have Bert injuries and Vrana in the NHLPA. I honestly think we’d have a playoff spot locked. An alternate universe exist where that roster won the cup.
Anyone else just so disappointed that this year looked like it could almost have been different, but we’re still selling big pieces at the deadline for picks? Granted, those pieces are going for 1sts now, but what does it say about where we’ll be next year?
The amount of Steve bashing on social media over the Vrana deal is embarrassing. It needed to be done for both parties and the level of emotional attachment to a player that *barely* wore the Wheel is a bit over dramatic. Just like the Bertuzzi trade, it’s a business, and Steve ultimately decided he was a detriment to the team.
I have to say, I was at the game last night and I was really impressed with Veleno. He didn’t make the score sheet, but he and his line were the only ones who came out firing in the first and he built the play that set up that first goal IIRC. He stepped up, and was a big reason we stayed in that game through the first. I dunno, I liked what I saw from him.
