This season is a complete fucking unmitigated disaster, only salvaging point is a bottom 5 finish

  2. cloudposts

He still has another year. They’re not going to give him away for futures.

  3. Sportsguy1223

Pretty disappointing. If you told me at the beginning of the year the only thing we’d acquire is a 5th and Gurianov I’d be pretty sad.

  4. UniverseHelpDesk

I mean it’s not like they would turn down good trade deals. No one wants to pay for what we’re willing to trade. Better keep it that way than do bad trades * coughs in Tampa * just for the sake of trades.

They can still move people over the summer, so I’m not worried.

  5. I’m saying it, I’m quite disappointed.

  6. Frectozhae

That’s fine. Almost nothing of value was traded today. There probably wasn’t a good enough market. Let him play some more games and trade him around the draft or next year.

  7. fortytwoanswers

Worst possible outcome is Eddie and Monahan come back in a couple weeks and we go on some useless run and finish 9th. Please please please just tank and get us a top-5 pick.

  8. ChristopherTalkin

You guys need to chill. Hopefully some players come back and the team culture can continue to improve.

  9. We may not have gotten much but we also didn’t give anything away. This TDL was weird.

  10. campbell_love

What an unlucky year, I mean our young guys get injured, our trade bait either plays terrible or gets injured, and we might not even finish with a top 5 pick.

  11. OfficialDaiLi

With the UFAs we have, I’m surprised we couldn’t at least move Drouin or Monahan

  12. Educational_Hat_

If Barron`s injury is serious, it`s probably best to keep Edmundson and trade him next year instead. But I`m disappointed we couldnt get anything for Monahan or Drouin.

  13. BlazeOfGlory72

Well that is disappointing. I get that Monahan being injured hurt their plans, but we basically did nothing. This season is starting to feel like a waste honestly. We’ve played ourselves out of a top 5 pick, most of our developing players were injured most of the season, and now the trade deadline was a bust. Not really many positives to take from this season unfortunately.

  14. confidenceisKi

Not surprised not really a market for most of our assets. We still have a lot of picks heading into a deep draft. If Monahab comes back and plays how he did prior to his injury I wouldn’t be opposed to resigning him

  15. c0unt3rparts

Wasn’t expecting the whole team to get dealt but literally no one except Dadonov? Embarrassing.

  16. juliusceasarsalads

Very underwhelmed. Was really hoping we’d do at least something kind of major. Edmundson getting moved at the very least. The team didn’t get weaker for tanking purposes, we didn’t add much draft capital, like if we end up drafting anywhere between 8-15 because we finish strong down the stretch this season will have been a bit of a waste imo. All we need now is a reach for a guy with a low ceiling and a high floor with one of our 1sts at the draft and we’ll really be doing this rebuild right

  17. Thaddeauz

It’s a bit disappointing, but it’s not like we are losing a lot of opportunities. Drouin was not worth a lot on the market and Monahan is injured. Everybody else that we would want to trade is signed for next season or more so we can make trade during the off-season and next season.

  18. So the Rockets don’t even have help or players back for the playoffs?!

  19. zombiejeesus

Brutal deadline. I know we didn’t have much to sell but I was expecting more

  20. DburgH4L

Well with all the bad luck we have had I am expecting a huge wave of good luck especially on the exact day of the lottery

  21. kingswash

    I can’t believe they couldn’t find a single taker for drouin…

  22. Olihorn

It’s disappointing but predictable. All of the value guys we had got traded last year. Our roster is pretty bad and everyone knows it.

  23. Chickentiming

No deal is better than a bad deal.

  24. ChrisvsWorlds

If Eddy finishes strong, I could totally see a trade at the draft. We can retain on the final year, because Dadonov and Bonino’s retentions will be over.

  25. JacquesEvans

Lame. Of course we draft 1st overall in a year where the picks are arguably not great. Just one year before the best player available since 2015. I hate being a Habs fan

  26. mountainpope

It’s a disaster, no effort to fall into the top 5 of the draft (in fact they’re doing everything they can to come out of it), no selling, still the 2nd team that spends the most

we’re in year 1 of a supposed rebuild and all we got at the deadline was a 5th round pick in 2024

  27. Manofoneway221

The most miserable year since I’ve been a habs fan

  28. Joseph_Bloggins

At this point, the best course of action (unless you’re vehemently anti-tank) is to sideline any injured roster player as long as possible – let them get surgery or whatever treatment that keeps them out of the lineup. This includes Edmundson, if he shows the slightest sign of pain (wink, wink).

As I said in another thread (and it’s not exactly a genius observation), players and coaches don’t tank – management tanks, by doing things to make a team weaker by design. Players will continue to be proud and give 100% most nights, so this notion of « creating a losing culture » is not really a thing. These guys are alpha athletes who have spent their entire lives striving to be the best. A losing season is not going to ruin them.

  29. Pouletchien

13 of our last 21 games are against teams currently in the playoffs.

5 are against teams in the playoffs hunt including 2 against Florida.

    3 are against bottom feeder.

We still have plenty of time to fall down the standing even without having traded Eddy and Monahan.

  30. a-ruudz

Put the pitchforks away were going to have a lot of cap space heading into the draft, and an opportunity to trade again for assets not at an inflated price before deadline.

  31. Rich_From_Accounting

Not getting rid of Drouin sucks, but I get it. The best ability is availability, which is his 2nd worst ability after goal scoring.

  32. It’s crazy how the last year of Bergy singing turned so bad for us lol!

  33. bosomarly

Trade deadline went as expected. I didnt even think we could move Dadonov so its a W in my book. The market was really weird this year, if Hughes only got offered a 2nd for Edmunson then its better to keep him. We got that for Kulak last year.

That being said I think Hughes had more negotiating power last year because most guys were fresh off a stanley cup finals run. Chiarot, Toffoli, Kulak and Lekhonen wouldnt have fetched as much as last year, this year our trade chips dont have the benefit of the doubt. They’ve been sucking for two years now, and most teams are tight against the cap.

My bet is that Anderson is traded on draft day and Edmunson at next year’s TDL. Hoffman too, his value will be a lot higher as rental. Hopefully we can fool an underachieving playoff team into taking Armia this summer.

  34. Sushamiboy

There was just not a really market for what we had to sell. Let’s face it, if we thought we could get something good, we were dreaming.

Drouin was not getting us anything. I’m pretty sure that we would have had to ourselves pay to get him traded.

Monahan has been too injured and no one really wanted to take a gamble on him.

Edmundson was probably getting us a 4th or less due to injury. Next year he’ll be worth more.

Dvorak was an interesting name thrown out there but that might be more of a draft day move.

Anderson is too highly regarded by management.

Hoffman has more term and less production than anyone wants.

Let’s face it. We were hoping for not only more, but we thought that we could get something for nothing. We are actually worse with Drouin and Hoffman in the lineup, if and when Monahan returns, he’s gonna be rusty and off his game. The players we should worry about are our call-ups who are playing too well.

  35. user_8804

    This sub:

« why didn’t other teams give us picks for our constantly injured, inconsistant, overpaid players with 0 goals ahead of their playoff runs?!?! »

  36. bless24

We will pay the price for this season in a couple of years. Bedard, Fantilli, Michkov will torch the NHL while we become a middling team without any elite talent just like we’ve been for 30 years. One year in the playoffs, the other not, and we’ll get destroyed in the first round. Hey but atleast we built a winning culture with 15 players that won’t be with us by then! What a fucking disappointment. The only way to redeem this season is getting a top 5 pick.
