I think there was impatience on Vrana from a managerial standpoint to reap the benefit of what you'd want to get from Vrana if the intent was to move on. Are we going to contend this year? I don't think so. Next year? MAYBE. I'm more of the opinion that Vrana was a good reclamation project next year to offload if the intent was always to move him regardless. I think the retainage was a brutal kickback and ultimately consideration for trades prior that haven't quite panned out for St Louis as well as they've hoped. Last time I checked it was a hockey organization, not a charity. I would've liked to have gotten a better pick from a non-contender who's almost there down the line, and don't believe there's any RFA worth dumping four firsts on currently – just my take. The only criticism I've had so far regarding management has been the dollar amounts for what they've received in return – whether it was alleged market value or statistical fairy dust of yesteryear.
Just waiting to see Bert and Vrana playing against the Wings. Maybe I'm being impatient, but how is it that the Kraken are a better team in two years than what SY has been able to do in going on five.
Love the Misfits shirt, so bad ass Darren.
Vrana has no market value due to his issues that were hidden in Washington and the ones well known in Detroit, and his temperamentalreaction to those issues: deleting all his photos of detroit on his instagram as some juvenile protest. Great player but obviously a distraction in the locker room. This is why detroit didnt get as much for him as some fans were hoping. You cant sell a guy who has been pushed out of two organizations for off ice issues, thats a cancer in the locker room, who reacts like a toddler to the people who are helping him get better, and given the fact that you can build a team quickly if you have several years of top ten picks, he became a devalued commodity. These people are getting paid to do a job, if they cant act like professionals regsrdless of their talent level, screw em, its not worth the talent that cant even play half a year let alone 82 games.
Should have held on to him till next season . Awful move
Offer Cole Caufield 1yr x $13M. Why? If CAN matches, his new qualifying offer is $12M a year in perpetuity for CAN until UFA screwing them over so bad. BUT for DET if they get him and his rights, the same doesn’t apply for Detroit
With Vrana, there was something going on that we wernt privy to. One of the issues was Vrana not getting his shoulder operated on in the offseason and 10 minutes into training camp, he was put on IR then operated on. Also, when he came back this year, it looked like he was gonna be in the lineup. Then all of a sudden, he was sent down to the AHL. Something was going on, and Yzerman didnt want him in the organization. All of us wanted Vrana to be that 30-40 goal guy, he didnt work out. Im glad Steve got rid of some of that contract, and if Steve wants him gone there had to be a good reason.
We don't know the whole story with Vrana. From what I can see it was the right move. They were never going to get a lot for him at this point. This was a low cost deal for the Wings in the 1st place since Mantha did nothing and we got Cossa out of that deal with the 1st round pick.
Glad Vrana is getting another chance to get back to his game. I don’t understand why they turned on him, he had a problem, fixed it and was trying to get better at his game. It had to about money. Loosing faith in Yzerman,
What a missed opportunity for dude. He was in the perfect situation to build his value.. but as the ole saying goes, Vrana made his bed…
Yzerman has a deal up his sleeve he is freeing cap space.
Wings are going to be in the playoffs next year.
Get your face out of Yzerman’s ass crack !
Darren looks particularly insane today
Dmac will defend Stevie Y to the end, every time. He is programmed to destroy all who seek to talk shit about his captain. Love those guys.
Damn what is Yzerman doing?!??!?? He's trading away all our best players for nothing in return!
I hated seeing Bert, fil and sunny leave but I 100% trust the Yzerplan!
With Vrana it might have been that his contract wasn't really a bargain considering how much they were paying him and how few amount of games he played in. Yzerman's job is to look at these things and determine what to do. If he didn't think it was worth it to keep him around, so be it. All it does is open up a spot for someone else' and that isn't a bad thing really.
WTF is going on with D Mac's hair? I think he's taken too many hits to the head. IMHO of course.
As any GM, you have to make tough decisions to improve the team. If Yzerman ran on emotions, like most fans and the media often do the team will never have improved from last season. Patience is crucial. Look at the lions. Everyone wanted Dan Campbell gone but Shelia (owner) stressed she made the right decision and is confident the team will turn around with PATIENCE , and what do you know? They did. The key word here is "Patience". You look around the league like Boston, Tampa and even Toronto they did not get there overnight. It takes building but most importantly patience. Yzerman is a fantastic GM. Be patient that is all that is asked. You don't want to ruin what's being built because you lack patience. Honestly, that's anything in life
If Chris Illitch is a good owner he will understand that…..
One thing I absolutely respect about Sheila Hemp Ford (Lions owner) is that she didn't give into the pressure of the media or fans. She stuck with her guns keeping both Dan Campbell (lions coach) and Brad Holmes(GM). And Sheila said herself: "You have to trust the process". This woman understands the importance of patience. Be Patient, and that include Chris Illitch
I'm with Darren, I trust Yzerman has something in the works. It does suck seeing some of our guys being traded off though.
Well, on the positive side, these moves give Zadina another chance. Lets hope he continues to make progress.
So why’s Chariot still here?
