Being a canuck fan makes me want to inhale as-BESTEST
JVR has been terrible for many seasons now, idk which team would even want him. Last year I watched him being outworked and outmuscled by Jeff Skinner of all, he looked lazy and disinterested.
As a wild fan, I’m very happy. Going into full buyer mode or full seller mode would be insane, but standing pat doing nothing would also be dumb.
Smoothed out some edges, and raised our ceiling without really giving up anything significant
I like to believe that Fletcher backed-out on the deal after seeing John Buccigross on ESPN laughing & saying Yzerman will probably get more for JVR than Fletcher will when the deal was announced.
A whole day of trading bottom 6 and draft picks, they shot their wad way before today for once.
Klingberg totally blew it by turning down that 50+ million contract with the Stars (a team in a state without state-level income tax).
GoSensGo 🍻
Sabres fans can and absolutely should expect more from this godforsaken team right now. Not getting blown out by the worst team in hockey and pretending like we care against Boston would be a good place to start. Not happy with the moves, needless to say. The last thing we need is another underachieving winger on the third line or no-name AHL defensemen. We needed Chychrun. For one fleeting moment I had hope for this team.
And the Islanders stand pat. I guess it makes sense, our playoff prospects aren't especially bright, what with injuries and most of the other teams in the race having a few games in hand, so a rental wouldn't make sense. But we could get in, and that will largely hinge on our performance the next four games, all against our wild-card rivals, so selling Varly and/or Mayfield didn't make sense.
If either of them re-sign in the off-season great. And either way we probably have enough cap space to sign another bona fide top-6 forward. This to me seems more important than defense at the moment, there's grousing about Dobbers and particularly Aho, but I'm happy with all 6 we are currently skating, particularly on offense, and we have Wotherspoon and Bolduc waiting in the wings. But we only have 4 legit top-6 forwards, in order of the value I place on them: Hovvat, Nelly, Barzy and Lee.
If we get that additional top-6 forward, and Wally steps up his offense next year, I think we'll be legitimate contenders next year and the following. After we shed Bailey's contract, hopefully he rebounds sufficiently that we get some value out of him at next year's trade deadline, we sell him whether we are buyers or seller next year, and then maybe THAT off-season we address defence. As it stands right now though Dobbers, Pelly and Romanov all have more assists than him. Maybe we can get Arizona to take him off our hands so they can be assured of continuing to be at cap minimum, haha.
Canucks bubble team set up in Calgary
I got to admit this is the first time NHL deadline was excited in my lifetime congratulations NHL for not being so predictable for the first time
Thanks for covering all the hockey news bud.
Ducks unloaded guys they didn’t want next year and now have new guys to evaluate. Ducks GM is looking to have every 6’5” disappointment at some point.
Some Wild fan didn't understand why Guerin made the moves he made as if he went "all in" . Looking at the moves IMO they didn't. But I think it's understandable to make a lot of moves in the West because it is fairly wide open to win, maybe EXCEPT for COL., no team is unbeatable. On the other hand, it DOESN"T make sense to push "all the chips in" to win the East IF you are the NYR because you are clearly NOT the dominant team ( which they will play tomorrow shorthanded on D AGAIN ).
The day finally came. Good riddance Klinger
I hope K. Miller learned something from his brain cramp suspension incident. The team has had to play 5 D because of the Kane cap nonsense & OTT specifically planned to use it against them & did it well. They have also had to play 1 Fwd short in the PHI game ( again cap reasons ) & then Motte gets his head smashed against the glass by Watson of OTT in the 1st period last night. The reason I say he needs to learn something is his play , along w/his partner Trouba, has been bad too many times this season & especially the last 4 games before his suspension.
Pittsburgh keeps postponing the inevitable. With the Bruins, Canes and Devils they have no way of advancing past the second round and then they go into next year with an old team that is one more year older.
The wild did great they gave Anaheim next to nothing and said to pat verbeek this all your getting chump. Honestly what waste of 7mil all Anaheim got was a 4th, ahl body, and player who can say nope I am not signing for your team even if you traded for my rights. He couldn't trade anyone else for assets. What joke of a GM…
Yea we got fleeced for asplund. Wtf. Should have been worth a 3rd. Maybe settle for a 4th but not a 7th
As a DRW fan, I am extremely happy with the deals of Hronek and Bert. I'm also happy with Sundqvist's deal as he comes to a team and can make an impact in terms of the way he plays and the return is good for a free player we picked up.
Vrána, is still the scapegoat and there are Pro's & Con's.
Good that everyone knows today that he is not part of the team, including himself. Questions will always remain for an even longer time about how the parties handle it all.
What I like most is that Det & Blues make a deal that is very team friendly for both parties and parts of that deal means that the speculation will continue. However, this deal also gives Vrána new opportunities to find himself and what he wants to do with his career, and Blues is a club that can give him those opportunities today. I hope it will be a Win/Win for all three here, only time will tell what will be what in the end.
Best of all, these deals also create space in the form of Cap space and greater opportunities for our talents to get ice time in RW soon, including more high end draft picks.
* Ned is recalled, as Husso has a minor injury and it is planned that Ned start some games soon….
The Canucks will probably trade their last 1st rounder for the 2023 draft, on draft day.
Guerin is just a solid GM…
Berube, Fitzpatrick and Pouliot are ALL up on waivers.
Montreal "laundered" Bonino…haha…nice! What did Pitt give up in this three way deal, if anything?
Greenway will be interesting.
Love Ottawa's moves.
Detroit can sign JVR in a few months for nothing.
thank you for the constant updates only reason im keepin up with trades
Dallas traded Brendan Morrow for Joe Morrow in 2013. But they weren't related
Ritchie is a familiar name: C Ritchie (Oshawa); N Ritchie out of Brandon; R Ritchie (Prince Albert); E. Ritchie – out of Sarnia;
Another year gone and the Wild still have dumba. Wish they could get rid of him.
Pat Verbeek has revealed to the world and to Ducks fans everywhere just how horrible he is as a GM. This is absolutely brutal. Fire him immediately.
Greenway wasn't in the dog house because of not scoring, he was in the dog house because he overslept and got scratched on a second half of a back to back where they were already a man short which forced them to play 11-7, missed a team meeting, and constantly needs pep talks from the GM just to put in a fraction of effort. He'll be a "fun" project for the Sabres now.
Klingberg has awful +/- numbers in the last years
I'm not sure if this is a good trade
Why everyone think Guerin fleeced sabres? Sabres had three 2nd rd picks. Minny got latest of them. Don't think granato might have some ideas about greenway? He coached him with national dev program. Just like he coached tage. Let's give it some time.
Can't imagine it being a confidence boost knowing you've been traded for a 7th round pick.
Asplund has shown promise as a good defensive forward. I imagine Nashvilles system could turn his career around. The 7th doesn't really shock me though, he's been terrible this year
Asplund was soft as cotton in Buffalo. Here in Sabre land, we've seen enough of those guys…
i think buffalo should have put more effort into this trade deadline
