I love the people they got but with Boston loading up in every category and Tampa being strong throughout every line i wish leafs got a pwf. I like knies but i don’t like throwing him into a playoff game for his 1st nhl game that’s sm pressure. Imo a pwf would make leafs sm better they need someone who’s gonna hit, score and shoot a lott. Win or lose 1st round Dubas did the best he could do and i think he deserves a contract idc what the “haters” say he’s done good the team just can’t perform.
Spend some time listening to Sweeny and looking at the players he got and how they have been integrated. Then go back and look at who the leafs have traded for and how they have been integrated. World of difference. (do the same with TB.) Fascinating perspective on who we are as an organisation and how we are run. Huge gaping holes there.
Dubas put to much faith in Matt Murray. He did not address the goaltending issue.
As a Red Wings fan it honors me to say that he looks like a young Steve Yzerman here and the interview and with his way of acquiring players🤙.. hopefully my Red Wings will be in this type of position soon!🙏.. still a ways to go but we're definitely trending
One thing I'll say about Yzerman, with getting all these draft pick for us he definitely has something in store and gives the Red Wings options heading into free agency and the draft 😉
Toronto on the other hand, is definitely a stronger team but just not sure they addressed the issues to get past the first round of the playoffs though..🤔
.. I guess time will tell eh??..🤷
Calgary should've outbid that mediocre deal on Horvat, couple extras goals over the past month would have made a huge difference. They've lost 20+ games by one goal.
If Calgary had sold, what should they have sold and for what? Most of the major contenders had spent their best assets. Had they sold, they would have gotten future assets and anything valuable is still on the books next year. If they weren't getting 2023 picks, might as well hold until next year.

Sure, he did enough to “maybe” get past the first round. After that it’s all over till next season.
Dubas's biggest flaw is he always goes for quantity over quality. The Leafs have 11 NHL quality defensemen. One might look at that and think, 'wow that's great depth,' but it isn't if the roles on the team aren't defined properly. Keefe pulling out the blender to see what works doesn't give the defense core an identity, and I think that is going to be their struggle in this year's playoffs.
How can the team install confidence in 4 to 5 players sitting on the sidelines? Can those in the actual line-up trust their own play knowing a single mistake may have them in the press box next game? Top tier teams usually do not have this issue. One doesn't see the Aves, Bruins or the Lightning going 'let's put these three guys in the lineup to see how it all shakes out' this late in the season.
I am personally not convinced that any of the defensemen that were brought in are better than Sandin. I'm also not completely convinced that players like Lafferty or Acciari are better than Engvall. They may have slightly more grit, but not enough to truly counter Tampa Bay's. Besides O'Reilly, which was a good pick-up, everything else feels like lateral movements instead of upgrades.
jesse seems the only one here that has any real sense in regards to Knies!! this is typical among leafs' faithful, over hyping certain prospects who have never played a game in the nhl. steve talks about pk and coffey but those were execptional players. the chances of knies playing at that level in his first nhl playoffs is being delusional at best. name one leafs prospect that has performed to a level you are contemplating that Knies could do in the playoffs! come on steve and adam smell the coffee and get real!! not good for your health like hypertension boys! especially with early signs of obesity.
He should've gotten rid of Holl and Kerfoot so no he didn't do enough, especially not for a run at the cup
The problem with this team isn’t goaltending you can have the second best goalie and win. This team refuses to accept that Morgan Reilly should be the 2nd defenseman. You have to have a franchise d-man with two more solid options or you aren’t going anywhere
He needs to lower the scale, to 1st round? His job is on the line and, Im not sure if a conference final will saves him. Mathews contract is almost up, JT contract will be aging badly in a year or so and prospect and picks are disappearing. If this doesn't work the leafs are looking at a rebuild. They have 4 picks inside the top 3 rounds for next 3 years, 2 first amd 2 3rds. Avg age is arbout 29, with Nylander, Marner, and Mathews being the youngest arbout 26. In other words this his last shot.
The guys are acting like Matthew Knies is definitely signing after his year at The University of Minnesota. I would not be surprised if he decides to go back for his Junior year.
I think the only way they could've done more is by moving kerfoot out for picks. Packaging them with the first from Boston or Toronto 2024 1st. Cause they probably could've looked to get someone you ouldnt expect like duclair from Florida. And one of the many dmen they have to get a extra forward incse of injuries.
But I loved what they did anyways, if Keefe wants a team that he can juggle this team has so many players that can do multiple positions well that the combo can get really interesting
4:50 ‘The Blender’ is what makes the Oilers offence so potent as well, every shift you have Mcdavid, or Draisital, or RNH, or Hyman, and then they all come out together somehow. It’s just letting the top stars pull the depth guys up and gaining an advantage of having the other team have zero idea what combination is coming next
Dangle Dubas gets GM of the Year after we win the cup!!!! come on!!!!
I'm sure Dubas crushed it!!!
I loved how the forwards were used against Calgary. Keefe had so many options and sent combos out depending on the situation. I could really see that working in the playoffs
Unless one of those new guys could strap on the pads and not let at least one soft goal in per game against Tampa, the answer is no.
I mean, Dubas added HOW MANY new pieces? If they are STILL "not done," then that suggests that this is a seriously flawed team. Dubas also says that he has faith in his guys, and yet, he keeps bringing in "character" players and "leaders" (dads like Spezza and Thornton). This tells you that the core group is made up of immature guys, and management does not have as much faith as they say.
NO!
1st best dubas trade dead line ever 2nd yes he did enough maybe to much 3rd schenn and gustafson will rotate , schenn will sit more 4th when healthy? murray has 2 cups and I think Woll is ready for the nhl SO PLAY HIM , 5TH IT'S ALL ON KEEFE NOW NO PRESSURE LOL
if the 2013 team could be 1 period away of beating those Boston Bruins…anything can happen
I know Cale Makar's 1st NHL game was in the playoffs. He turned out ok
Short answer: No. Holl and Kerfoot are still on this team pulling regular minutes.
I love how brisbois is getting credit for all of Yzermans hard work lol
Even if Toronto finally wins a round likely against Tampa, they’ll choke against Boston. That’s just my prediction!
Dubas did everything in his power to strengthen his team with what was available out there. Could he have gotten a goalie? Maybe, but like you guys said the pickings were slim and then the ones that probably had a chance at being moved could've had nmc in their contracts.
last year, goaltending was the issue. This year, did they address that issue? only the playoffs will tell.
