  1. I think it's a great trade for New Jersey, the only other thing worth noting here is that the Devils are basically betting on the additions of Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec being the last finishing touches on what they hope will be a good enough finished product. On paper, it seems like it should be, but we'll see if everybody on that roster is able to come together in future post-seasons

  2. As a Swiss I really hoped for this trade and now I'm rooting even more for the Devs 🙃
And for the Swiss players it's great that the now completted their Jass-Quartett (traditional Swiss card game you need 4 players for), so they don't get bored on longer road trips 💪🏻🤪

  3. Why? He is only under contract through this season. And NJ isn't going to make the east finals.

  4. I completely agree the return is far from what it should've been. I mean if you took a look at EVERY proposed trade package, from fans, from analysts, Holtz was in on every one!

He might turn out to be good, but when the biggest piece of the return is Mukhamadullin…you messed up

  5. Someone in San Jose is gonna lose their job.

Trading Meier for a seriously sketchy 3rd or 4th liner, 2 prospects, a handful of magic beans in the form of draft picks AND 50% salary retention.

This is a fleecing and it's not even 24 hours old yet.

Consider that San Jose got NOTHING tangible in return to replace Meier immediately.

There is no damn way that there was NOT a better trade offer on the table. No way.

  6. Sorry, Grier showed his rookie status here. Look at what Poile just did if you want to see how to twist a team's nipple.

  7. This trade in My opinion confirms Devils Will Be powerhouse in The NHL next 10 years

  8. Just a small correction – Nemec is pronounced 'Nemets'. I know the lady on the draft night pronounced it 'Nemetch' but that's not the correct pronunciation.

  9. For some reason it feels Meier will be the bust of this year's trade deadline.

  10. Even though the Devils have been linked to Timo Meier for seemingly forever, and they were considered favorites, I'm still stunned they were able to get him, especially for that trade return. Even more stunning is that they didn't have to give up Mercer, Nemec or even Holtz for that matter.

Now I hope they can get both him, and Jesper Bratt, under contract for the better part of the next decade. Very happy to be a Devils fan today.

  11. I dont think the return is bad by any means just lacks kinda of a big name prospect for the sharks

  12. Great trade for NJD – they did not give up one key player (esp Mercer), they let go ones that either were not fitting in or were in a position abundance situation, they dumped about $6-7 mil of salary which can be used to support Timo's contract, and the 1st round picks are conditional upon a deep playoff run. But on the talent side, NJ just got a lot more dangerous with 2 fully packed, extremely lethal scoring lines.

  13. Why would you wait to see how the first pick turns out? It’s simply a probability of becoming an nhl player. We shouldn’t judge it after the fact based on them picking a diamond.

  14. So far I haven’t seen any premier prospects going the other way in any of these big trades. O’Reilly deal, no Knies or Robertson, Rangers no Kakko or Lafreniere, and now this no holtz or Nemec.

  15. Timo Meier. The Sharks best player. After years of not wanting to tank, and failing to pile up draft assets, its incredibly underwehelming to say the least. How come some teams (like the Sharks) ALWAYS get fleeced?? Crazy stuff…

  16. New Jersey wouldn’t be where they are this season without zetterlund. He filled palat and bastions spot well

  17. No Holtz? No Schmid? And why give up a good young prospect in Hatakka? As a Sharks fan I'm really disappointed. Grier has really been disappointing me since he's been hired. This was a as premium an asset as it gets
