Good thing Timo scored in the first period of that first game – that bought him some goodwill.

  2. titanate83

Am I the only one that’s not a big fan of Bahl? I feel like that guy is slow and mishandles the puck CONSTANTLY.

  3. Brettski_15

To all you Vanechek haters out there, go watch all the goal replays. Our Defense is in outer space right now.

How many times is he going to have to “bail us out”? How about our D stick check the dangerous guys in front of the net and bail him out.

  4. BababooeyAD

Beat themselves tonight and Timo is trying too hard out there, he’ll settle down but yeah that was a tough one for him…..shame they squandered Palat’s heroics and arguably Haula’s best game as a Devil – oh well on to the Caps

  5. Lookin4Rockets

Went to the game… Far too many leafs fans at Prudential. Leafs may be my least favorite team in the league behind the rangers at this point. Taunting devils fans as we were leaving. Pretty pathetic. Fun game to be at, but holy shit… idk how a fanbase like that can talk any shit at all 😂

  6. sapphires_and_snark

I would like Bratt to play up to the contract he thinks he deserves

  7. DevilJacket2000

Fucking had this game. Leafs had no business even being in this game after the first.

  8. PaddyKaner

    – PP looked horrendous tonight.

    – When’s the last time someone not named Hughes scored on a breakaway

    – starting to worry that Vanecek has hit a wall. Don’t think it’d be the worst idea to let Schmid (or Blackwood) run with the crease a little and lighten the load a little bit in preparation for playoffs.

  9. ilovehenrique14

And Montreal blows it. Fucking hell

  10. uticadevil

Carolina beats Montréal in the sixth round of the shootout; we’re four points behind them now

  11. UntilWeLand

    As a Toronto resident, fuuuuuuuuuuuck.
This is a worst case scenario.

  12. Killamaniax

Weird game. Way out xG’d the leafs, but felt like the top 2 lines and the PP totally got shut down after the first. Timo had a really rough game and Vanecek probably needed to make another save, but still only lost by 1. Oh well, onto the next one and hopefully Timo starts to settle in

  13. kumquat731

We didn’t do our job tonight. Thought the Habs were about to at least half ass do their job and steal a point from Carolina but nope now we’re 4 points back. Onto the next Gotta beat the Caps on Thursday

  14. Hurts to lose, sure, but plenty of positives to take away.

For example, I’d take the 3rd line finding some chemistry as a great development. That line was the weak link for much of the season.

Also, Severson is playing well, and is going to be important for us if we’re to go anywhere in the playoffs. I’ve also pulled my hair out over his mistakes in the past, but on balance he feels like the best player on the blue line recently.

On the Hughes line playing poorly:

Timo is on his 2nd game. It’s not going to be a magical fit from the get go. It’s fair to be blunt and say he wasn’t good, but it’s too early for worry.

This isn’t going to be popular, but I suspect Jack is still hurt. He hasn’t looked the same since his return. I doubt he wants to rest, unfortunately.

  15. khuumshaat

Why did it look like there were more leafs fans in attendance then devs fans fucking embarrassing as well

  16. Sauronsindexfinger

Gotta score on almost 5 straight pp minutes to start a period. With fresh ice! Let alone let a shorty in?! That cost us this game.

  17. Devil_Dane

Only two games in, and the pitchforks are already out for Timo Meier?

For fuck’s sake, give him some time to settle in, before tossing him into the trash.

There’s a LOT of blame to go around tonight.

  18. cabeener

Haula 2 goals and we didn’t win? When the stat line said he had goals 6 and 7 I was fully expecting him to have 2 and 3

  19. Down_Rodeo_

Fuck the leafs. Vitek is still shit at the moment and it’s worrying for the playoffs. That 4 min pp was a fucking disaster. Nico decided to be an anchor for any player on his line.

Meier should be used as a trigger man, not as a bumper where he has never played. Also as a right winger not a left winger.

  20. chrishic99

Do not take 22w if you’re leaving the game. I have been in standstill traffic for 30 minutes, haven’t moved an inch.

  21. cabeener

Good game from Bahl, really like the player he is becoming, third line is a banger. Loved seeing Palat come out with his vagina lip and put up a bunch of points.

I think the ghost of Mark Recchi is still haunting us. You cannot let up a shorty after 6 minutes of powerplay…

As much as we shouldn’t have to rely on it, jack needs to get back to scoring his clutch goals and doing it in bunches… Bratt hits the net instead of the crossbar and this game has a different outcome.

Shrug it off and move on.

  22. I like splitting Meier from Hughes. The Hughes line has to maintain Hughes’s character and injecting Meier into that prevents that. Adding Meier to Hischier-Mercer adds great synergy. The Hughes line simply doesn’t need another driver who would necessarily take the puck away from Hughes.

  23. Jalapeeeeno

Leafs fan coming in peace. You guys shouldve won tonight by far, we got lucky. Your team is legitimately scary and the window is only beginning.
Sorry some Leafs fans were toxic in the arena tonight, they arent true fans

  24. Grimmer026

Hughes needs to get back to finding the net. 1 goal in 10 games

  25. B0bZomb1e

I’m just saying…Geertsen has been playing D in Utica lately

    (This is a joke..)

  26. dlstove

Tough loss. They didn’t have Tavares or O’Riley. Need to win these games.

That being said not worried. Stay the course. I know how good this team is

  27. IsstvanIII

Really deserved to win this game, sucks that our top guys played so bad and VV couldn’t make another big save or two. Good news is they’ll be back at it again soon and can learn a lot from that loss.

  28. Spoonbread

I don’t really get how this game was a Vanacek problem. 3 garbage coverage lapses and a short handed breakaway for one of the most skilled guys in the league.

If you’re expecting your goalie to save cross crease tap ins and Matthews in the slot with 3 seconds to pick his shot you’re in for a rough time.

The first goal was a CLASSIC Devils play that’s been happening for 3 seasons. You could see they were going to lose a man in coverage the second Boqvist was at center ice.

  29. Mr-Palmer-CPA

Man, I’m gonna get hate here but that’s five starts straight Vitek has been sub .900 I think he can still bounce back but we are still without a TRUE #1 goalie. We need to get Schmid as much work as possible in this home stretch and see what he officially has. We didn’t bring Vitek to be number 1 but this slump is seriously alarming and we are pushing the limits to what he has ever done game log wise. I know our defense is giving up some terrible chances… but still.

We have gotten goalied multiple times this year, we haven’t goalied a single team. Which makes me feel as though even in our losses we are putting up good games up front. But at some point to contend for a Cup we have to be the team that has a goalie go unconscious and do it all. And I don’t feel any of our tendies can pull that off. I hope Vitek bounces back but I also hope I don’t have to keep saying I hope he bounces back

  30. lazerlayman19

Just got home from work and watched the game from tonight here is my biggest takeaway and it’s super basic, our 3rd or 4th man on the back check or when forming our dzone coverage was PUCK WATCHING they teach you this in mites and it’s a very easy fix. Tatar and hughes on the goals were not the man who was between the puck and vitek in our net and were looking and more importantly facing the man with the puck— something Mercer does so well is he keeps his eyes on the play but body is not facing the wrong way; Lindy sees it so it will be fine. The good news is this is mental and will get fixed, other than the goals I saw wood do it a time or two among others but it’s nothing serious. Devils are in a good place but this puck watching ticked me off and Marner’s face but that’s it’s go devils!

  31. coach673

Rough game last night and Fuck the Leafs fans. Especially that asshole in 119.
We really struggle to maintain possession of the puck in the 2nd and 3rd periods. It looked like we were racing into the zone every time we got the puck. We were very disorganized offensively. I know it will take a some time to get Timo adjusted to his new teammates, but both he and Jack are trying to do to much right now. Hopefully with games vs the Caps and Habs upcoming Jack can get this post injury monkey off his back.
I think some of the criticism of Vitek is fair. He hasn’t been playing great lately. But the bigger problem is defense has been giving up some really easy looks and losing players on the ice lately. They need to fix this asap or it’s going to be a huge problem headed in to the playoffs. I stopped keeping track in the 3rd as the intensity picked up, but at one point we had like 9 giveaways to their 1 if I’m not mistaken. Couldn’t find the final stat this morning but curious to see what it ended up at.
