He’s a great player but they eventually would’ve had to pay him big bucks to re-sign which they don’t have. The Leafs lost players like Hyman because they had no cap room left. It’s not Dubas worst move. Trading for Foligno was.

I think looking back at it, McCann was good but he wasn't a great fit for the leafs at the time and the buds had some potential when it came to developing Holl and he isn't terrible, top 3 defensive defensemen this season behind Brodie and Gio. I don't think saying that getting rid of McCann and not Holl was a bad idea is true. The leafs needed a better D-core, and no matter how you look at it Holl brought that to the table (yes I know how many mistakes he makes but a d-man that we pay 4x more is doing worse and everyone says Holl is the problem)

Kyle has made been a mediocre GM at best. Since he assumed full time GM duties in 2018, he has only had one of his drafted players (Rasmus Sandin) make the team as a regular, and Sandin has now been traded. The Kadri trade was a disaster, he overpaid for Tavares, and he has failed to bring in a goaltender who can compete with the best in the league. Not everything he has done has been bad, but the team in now at a crossroads. I would like the team to hire a different GM for next year.

Destroyed a perfect time for the leafs! Over paid, players when it wasn't necessary, trades high picks for very little return, drafts small players, brings in players at the end of their careers, continues to employ a coach that is consistently out classed by his rivals. I hope the ownership cleans house when the leafs lose in the first round again! It will be another 50 years before this team will win the cup😬
I’d say Foligno was worse. Basically the original O’Rielly trade and what a shock, they both got hurt at a bad time. not sure if it’s just me but for a guy who won the cup and conn smythe ROR looks absolutely lost on the Leafs.
I still remember shaking my head when Jim Benning traded McCann and a 2nd out for Gudbranson. It seemed like Jim and many GMs underestimated McCann, and his ability to become a top 6 player.
Guy is a solid solid depth piece. Saw him play really well against the jets when he was on the penguins and thought to myself how strong he'd make the jets. No idea why he was given away by Dubas. L really
