Taking penalties in OT, much less playing for OT, is really getting obnoxious. Guys need to clean it up

Also, starting to understand GG’s blending. He gives guys the opportunities to play with who they want, but you know how that goes. Chemistry doesn’t mean anything if the effort isn’t consistently there, which is hasn’t been

  2. Zero-jiggler

They can have all the talent in the world, but it won’t matter if the players don’t care. I really hope I’m wrong, but I think we have a team fully of players who just don’t have the fire to win a stanley cup

  3. davegettlegod

At the end of the day their only goals were a 5 on 3, a lucky bounce, and an OT PP. not scared

  4. LeftHandedScissor

This next week is gonna feel like a playoff series

  5. Y2Jerich0

I was there. This team was D O G S H I T through two periods. I can’t tell what was seen on tv but they were BAD BAD BAD. Third period was ironically enough to win if they converted, but the first period was pathetic. Pens were on a back to back too.

  6. jerejeje

Some people on this sub have gotta remember that there’s a full 16 games between now and playoff game 1 for this team to figure out the lines and chemistry. Have some patience.

  7. Fancy_Combination436

Not that that wasn’t shit for a lot of reasons, in staying positive that 3rd was incredible by us. If we can play like that consistently we’re the best imo.

  8. NJImperator

Not happy with that level of play, but happy to get a point playing at that level

  9. albbackk

2nd half of the game was great, the hitting I think turned it around but then a mix of « refs » and a flashback to the 1st period cost it. I was thinking they’d at least get a point out of it if they did manage to wake up, obviously it would’ve been nice to see a fucking win like that on national tv but lmao fuck the nyr I guess amirite

If we can take the 3rd and turn that into our game every game all game from now on, who knows how far they’ll get.

  10. pizza_nightmare

    Panarin giveth, Panerin taketh away

  11. TakeMe22TheRiver

Gallant better smack some common sense into Panarin’s irresponsible head. That point he just cost us could come back to haunt us, hope I’m wrong.

  12. VT_Forever

    Top 3 Takeaways:

    1. The NHL favors the Penguins. Period. No debate.

    2. Panarin is a postseason liability until he proves me otherwise. I’m sick of him not taking over games and arguably costing us games with his late mistakes. He’s massively overpaid. Love him, but he may need to go this or next off-season.

3a. Overall I’m cautiously optimistic about this team. It’s a very odd time with the Kane trade and the playoffs around the corner. Emotions are high, and I get that. The kids and stars are fighting to the last whistle, which I appreciate, but…

3b. … they need to find that « second gear » FAST. Look, we can pat these guys on the back all we want, but this roster is stacked. My expectations for this postseason are high, and I’m not going to tolerate being called delusional when I know this team has the potential to go far.

  13. obvioussponge06

We had to go all in this year because the salary cap shits on us after this year and important players are going to have to be lost

Of course it’s the year the entire conference does the same thing and we completely forget how to play defense down the stretch

We have no room for significant deadline additions after this year

    Just so depressing

  14. This team scrapes by every game they win, and some people are surprised when they lose games like this. This team has taken a massive step back since the streak they went on in December-beginning of Feb. I don’t even see them getting past the first round playing like this. So tired of seeing a team with so much talent just half ass it every single game.

  15. Gbeez22

I hope they watch video of the 3rd period vs the 1st and 2nd. Rangers cant be surprised they lost given the huge difference in intensity, zone exits, and just simple plays. Looking forward to Lindy’s return bc this team def needs some stabilization on defense.

  16. Livid-Screen2880

Line predictions for next game? I def wanna see that Kreider-Trocheck-Kane like again. But I don’t really like (and never have liked) Mika and Panarin together. Kid line has also been struggling a lot defensively (they have been corned in their own end and stuck there many times the last few games). Not sure what Gallant is gonna do but nothing was clicking the first two periods.

  17. Clear_Willow3379

    I want:
    20-93-88
    10-16-91
    13-72-24
    14-21-26

  18. Nyrfan2017

I’ll say it again and I’ll get bashed again this team isn’t a cup team. They have had many issues since last year that never got resolved they are soft they don’t play 60 min some guys can’t even put effort in 2 games in a row why is that??? Every talking about needing time for lane to get adjusted .. making a rental trade should mean the player steps in and plays maybe they are alittle off til they find there way but the team will still win.. not playing good has absolutely nothing to do with kane adjusting .. this team has issues and a lot of it started with Tom Wilson.. I’m sorry a team with this much potential should t have this many issues

  19. Gunhucghc

Brooksie crying on Twitter Jaro didn’t wanna get shit on by him after the game is all time

  20. dcgirl98

For the last couple we’ve had shitty 1-2 periods and then a stellar 3rd. They need to figure out how to get to the 3rd period level of play for the whole game or even for 2 periods. But it needs to be more than 1 period a game. I like that we battle back but I’d prefer more consistent play.

  21. Ok_Mud_3985

Alright initial rage aside 5/6 on the road trips not too bad. I have high hopes for them getting back on track when lindgren comes back

  22. terithegreat

Maybe I’m too optimistic, but I actually feel better about the game tonight than the last two where we technically won. More like the third and we’ll get this turned around.

  23. BarmyDevonian

The lines in the 3rd were more balanced. Kreider & Kane looked good on opposite flanks. Always liked Trocheck and Kreider together too.

The Pens controlled the first 40, so will take the point.

Increasingly concerned with Panarin. He seems to be trying to do force even more than usual. He said he “got away from his game” last postseason and that’s why he was ineffective. Never really agreed with that. Sometimes the best play is the easiest one…ie. a simple shot or pass, especially in the playoffs against quality defensive teams.

Halak was excellent and kept the team in it so they had a chance at getting a point.

Have to give props to Mikkola as well who’s stepped it up the past few games, but can’t wait to get Lindgren back so the prime Foxy returns. The Rangers record with 55 out is the reason he needs to be extended this offseason before any other RFAs are resigned imo.

  24. Direct_Crab6651

Have to convert that late chance hitting the post if you want to win the whole thing. Put that in and you win.

Unpopular take …… I have wanted the bread man gone since his first year. For everything he does positive, he does 2 if not 3 things terribly. The guy is a turnover machine, he is a defensive liability, he doesn’t shoot enough, he doesn’t drive the net, he doesn’t throw his little body and he has a cap eating contract. He seems to be most concerned with just having a good time out there over winning and losing. You need cap space in the future….. while Goodrow and Trouba have bloated contracts and are not prefect, Bread opens up a ton of cap space and could get you a lot in a trade. His loss of assists would be a small price to pay if it results in keeping the rest of the team core intact for the foreseeable future.

  25. dcgirl98

They need to brush this off, reset, and wipe out the Caps on Tues. We have a busy week at home.

  26. tuffenstein0420

Gotta get in front of the net and screen the goaltender more. I was happy with a more physical brand of play though.

  27. Jokercard08

Damn, Vince and Larry are absolutely devastated Halak wasn’t available to say
« yeah you know it was a close game, played hard. Got away from us a little bit there. Got to stay out of the box, you know? Play our game. get pucks deep. It’s a tough one down the stretch. But you know I think we played hard. Just gotta get back to our game. »

How tf will the world go on?

  28. ItsHeadbangerG

Panarin rides pisshole tonight. That penalty was unacceptable and ultimately cost us the game.

Others have said it, but I have to echo the sentiment of how this team can be as stacked as it is with talent, but have such an ineffective offense. We haven’t had a huge sample size with Kane or Senko on the team, but this late into the season how long are we supposed to tolerate offensive woes as chemistry issues or them « just needing to settle in? » We shouldn’t be looking this weak when we need to have a firm hand on the wheel and clear focus going into the playoffs.

  29. Wesley__Willis

Big picture: 5/6 points on a three games in four nights road trip is pretty dang good.

More important: this team really struggled to get those points. Again, it’s not the talent. Kind of feel like it’s on Gallant to get this team ready to dominate again or they’ll be a first round tomato can. Do they have enough time to get right?

  30. Key-Tip-7521

The first two periods the Rangers today looked totally like shit. It took another Turk line change (Kane-Trocheck-Kreider looked good) to in way help. Along w/Trocheck’s and Trouba’s physical presence. Which I believe lit a fire under this team’s ass. It let to a goal by Kreids.

Goodrow’s gritty goal was spectacular. 4th Line was the best line imo. Which is typically bad. But, for a team likely to make the playoffs, it’s important for the 4th line to get goals like this.

First two periods defensively, is SO, SO, BAD! Looked a little better in the third. Still, can’t play like that against any team in the playoffs. IMO and possibly CMV, Lindgren IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT DMAN on the team. W/o him the defense looks lost. Key needs to be better defensively. Been a shell of himself ever since his suspension.

Power Play could have been better. Missed opportunity on the PP today. Could have shot the puck more. More hesitancy is bad. Mika should have shot the puck when he passed it to Vova I think in the 3rd.

There was a lack of physicality until Trouba’s and Trocheck’s hit. Which concerns me. Should have gotten someone more physical instead of Kane.

Overall, while disappointed w/the result, I’m very content with getting the point. I think playing the Penguins two more times this week will light a fire under this team’s ass. Loved the effort in the 3rd. BUT, you can’t leave it till the 3rd period to turn it on or else the game ends and you ran out of time. The fact that the three goals were: on the PP (which you need to be disciplined against teams like this) and a deflection plus. Panarin taking a dumb penalty which cost them the game. I think similar to the game in Calgary (correct me if I’m wrong). Not saying that OT penalty was the main reason why they lost. But whatever. Disappointed. Got the point (could have gotten two). But move on. Onto the Caps on Tuesday.

oh, before I forget, the new motto instead of « No Quit in New York », should be « Us vs the World » since the national media wants this team to lose. They and r/hockey must throw a massive celebration when this team loses. Just a side note….. Onto the Caps

  31. avidowl81

Instead of warmups the Rangers should play a full period of hockey somehow and then by the time the first period comes along it’ll be the second or first official period. That way they don’t absolutely suck that first period since it tends to set the tone for the rest of the game

  32. gleyberhood25

The rangers beat reporters are acting like giant assholes over the lack of availability. How bout you write about the game and not about how the guys feel?

  33. TheIncredibleHork

Said it in the game day thread, I’m glad Kane wasn’t our big, first, and only trade deadline acquisition. I’d be much more worried if he was. He hasn’t made a big impact on the ice at all, and he’s almost as much a turnover machine as Panarin can be. I feel like Vatrano and Copp each individually made a bigger impact in last year’s team. Him pushing the issue and us getting him for a song *after* getting Tarasenko and Mikkola makes it less painful, and there is still time for him to get back in the saddle. Just not much.

That being said, Kane looked much better playing with Kreider and Trocheck in the 3rd, and the whole team looked like they pulled the heads out their butts in that period. The only line that didn’t look better per se was the 4th, and only because they were the only line that looked good the whole way through.

20-16-88, 10-93-91, 13-72-24, 26-21-14. Those are looking like they may be our best lines to ride or die with. We get Lindgren back, we might be in business. Just have to shake off this one and get back in the hunt again.

  34. DSPGerm

Game in and game out we can’t exit the zone on D or seal the blue line on offense. Or just not turn the fucking puck over in the neutral zone.

  35. I’ve been a Ranger fan for 50 years and I am going to say that if anyone thinks that this team is going to make it out of the first round than reality is not your friend. I’m sorely disappointed in this team.

  36. Dizzle71

Flying all the way to NYC on Tuesday from PDX for the game. LETS GO RANGERS

  37. NoeyBalbonzers

More terrible turnovers from bread. Still passing instead of shooting. Can’t believe Zib passed that puck to Vlad instead of firing it home point blank. Switching up the lines, looks like no one had chemistry for 2 periods.

  38. NoeyBalbonzers

They gotta stop playing one good period of hockey and play a full 60 minutes. Really shows how much of an impact Lindgren has on that D core.

  39. FoghornLeghorn99

Since the Kane trade (this I GGs fault, not Kane) the teams defense has taken a dump, even more so, and the rangers have less consistent pressure trying to force 2 particular lines out there.

During their two best months the kids were seeing more ice and more important situations (though it was rare).

The three players that had the best possession metrics and drove the flow of the game see less ice and time together and the games look worse than they have all year.

I wonder why, maybe it’s the billion turnovers from the other lines and not sustaining pressure.

Zero regulation wins in what, 10 games now?

But hate these facts because we want to see big name shiny toys get all the ice, that’s the New York way.

Meanwhile, the Devils, who invested into their top picks and went through the growing pains have young firepower now.

  40. mbsmilford

Live by the ot penalty (yesterday), die by the ot penalty( today).
