How would you grade Jason Kidd's coaching job this year?
I get this weird feeling Dallas may be doing this on purpose. Idk why just doesn’t seem to be any other explanation.
How about a deeper dive into the "Christian Wood situation"? J Kidd said on Media Day that he hadn't talked to Wood ALL OFF-SEASON, when he was our biggest new addition to the team & added as early as the Draft! That proves he went into the season either incompetently, or with the intent to not utilize/maximize Wood to his fullest potential, as he gave no effort to integrate him into the team. Secondly, it's obvious that Wood is a better/more versatile all around player, with a higher ceiling than both DP & THJ. Y'all said on this very podcast that his P&R numbers with Luka was #1 in the league in Points per Posession (y'all also said the Wood & Spencer P&R was 2nd in the leage in points/possesion!), so the Mavs should have been blugeoning opponents with Wood in the P&R as early and often as possible. Maybe if JKidd would've committed to this offense early – Luka's usage would've been more manageable, and he wouldn't have been dying by the 4th Q. By the time Wood actually got 30+ min/game he was a 20p, 10r, 2blk/game player on +50%fg & +38%3pt., which would basically make him a top-10 offensive big in the league.
Another reason J Kidd is the main reason the Mavs have taken a huge step back this season was how he dismissed Dragic. Dragic was clearly a better option than Facu, Kemba, and even Frank both on the court & as a LEADER in the lockerroom. He was pretty much committed to coming to play for Dallas on the vet minimum & J Kidd didn't think he could contribute enough to even give him a shot! It's pretty obvious to see that his leadership would've positively affected Luka too.
Between Wood's potential not being maxmized & the dismissal of Dragic, (Both Direct decisions by J Kidd) it's not a reach to think the Mavs could've split the difference in the Cluth Losses. So with 10 or 11 more wins this team would be the CLEAR #2 seed in the West & we would be looking at this team completely different. It's not even the fact that Wood is some perfect player because he's obviously not. It's the fact that J Kidd isn't 100% committed to playing the best players for WINNING games & would rather lose doing things his way. That's why it doesn't matter what the roster is, if you have a coach who is unwilling to do what's best for the TEAM.
Why are we calling the problem “roster” when we really mean Cuban and the Front Office? Who is responsible for the roster? Why not be more direct about the criticism? This makes it sound like we’re blaming the players, who are giving exactly what you’d expect from them, rather than the people responsible for bringing together these players.
Playing Frank is a reason he should be gone. Doesnt know how to use the players he has. No Hardy? But plays Frank who contributes literally nothing.
So much blame on a player that is averaging 33 8 8 on 50% shooting, basically MJ god like numbers, while playing with G League caliber players. The player that creates more open shots and score on the toughest shots possible in the whole league. Yeah, he is the one to blame.
I go back and forth on this question. Is Kidd the Mavs biggest problem? I keep wanting to say that it's defense. But then I just think about how Kidd doesn't really do a damn thing to help out the defense.
Seriously, does Kidd do ANYTHING during the game? I admit I haven't watched EVERY game but I can't recall the Mavs changing things up and playing zone…especially when teams are just feasting in the paint. Play some fucking zone and make the other team SHOOT you out of the zone D but at least TRY to stop the other team's layup drill.
And then the things Kidd does with his lineups are fucking absurd. You got Gobert just absolutely looking like a mix of Shaq & Hakeem against the Mavs and he doesn't give McGee a single minute on the court? I thought the reason we brought him in was to go against more traditional big men and make life a little harder on the more traditional centers. FFS at least use McGee as a 6 foul guy. Use his 6 fouls to make Gobert EARN his points at the stripe instead of dominating the boards & getting easy put-backs.
Ugh, the more I think about it the angrier I'm getting and so yeah, I'm landing on "Fvck Jason Kidd. Great player, absolute trash HC and get him out of here ASAP".
Who ever in charge of the rotations and the roster should be fired. Sometimes the coach doesn’t have full control of these issues. Owners and managers can push an agenda too.
Who ever made the KP trade should be crucified. That trade will haunt the Mavs for a decade.

I can't stand his coaching. He won't define players role. They simply don't what the coach wants from them. Plus he makes things so personal. We don't give a damn who you don't like, play the best players so we can win.
About fing time someone in the media has said the obvious. 15 games left amazing it has taken this long. Kidd is clueless as a coach. He wins a chip as a player so everybody turns their heads when he while he has ran mavs franchise player into the ground and amazingly has taken only 10 games to cause kyrie to start missing time
Now let's talk about his handling of cwood. Cwood has played his ass off all season. Great teammate and his defense is improving. Gets quality buckets yet is always on bench in closing minutes. Mavs go 9-5 when he starts. Kidd has no clue about rotations he has no balls as he can't talk to luka in private but has to give a coded presser about luka
Kidd is solely responsible for no less than costing team 10 wins. He acts like he will get paid for every timeout he does not use.
His coaching legacy will be this…. mavs miss playoffs with 2 all star starters… kyrie does not resign… cwood will not sign…eventually Luka will leave…mavs will be a lottery team for years to come… the problems with the mavs start and end with kidd
Kidd has to go!! CWood played less minutes than McKinley Wright against Memphis even with Luka and Kyrie out…. Wood is averaging almost a point per minute and Kidd refused to play him.
Once he said at post game presser he is sitting on bench letting ]ayers figure it out while losing a 27point lead vs lakers he should of been fired next day. He is ruining lukas career in many ways. Letting luka continue to complain and not get back on D is inexcusable.
At beginning of season when luka playing lime mvp people were saying no way he could sustain his usage rate but kidd kept riding him hard and now look at results a 23yr old once in a lifetime generational talent is breaking down in so many ways. Kidd has taken ALL of the joy of watching mavs hoops and I hate him for everything he is doing

Problems with the Mavs:
1. Jason Kidd cannot coach. At all. He needs to be fired asap.
2. Powell, Frank, Holiday and McKinley are useless. Reggie, Bertans and Tim are overpaid and wildly inconsistent. All of them should be traded, idc if it's for a bag of chips THEY GOTTA GO.
3. Defense does not exist on this team.
4. Luka's immature attitude and ball dominate playstyle.
I remember how confused I was listening to you guys after the trade talking about getting to number 3 or even 2. I was thinking will we get to playin.

I don't think it matters if Kidd is the problem or not. The real question is would Mark ever make that move? Kidd is a HOF player and friend of Mark. He helped bring a championship to Dallas. I just don't see him ever getting rid of Kidd.
Why we still keep some players who doesn't play. FOR EXAMPLE T.P, F.N…. THERE IS SOME CENTER WHO CAN PLAY AND DALLAS NOT BRINGING IN. MOSES BROWN , DOWAIN HOWARD STILL THERE.
I don't get the fact that Wood can't play more for the fact that when everybody was hurt before he got injured he had an incredible run of defense and scoring it's like people have forgotten that. He shows the capability to be able to do that however I feel like it they don't give him the minutes at least 25 to 30 a night he doesn't have the confidence to feel like he can do that or that the coaching staff thinks that he can do that. I don't think that kid should be fired simply because across the league players enjoy him and I feel like we're going to be in the room with great players. The problem with this season Luka played too much basketball. They never address JB and they put too much on him. Dinwiddie was a great three not a great two. Then you add in Kyrie who hasn't gotten a chance to learn our system or everything we want to do. I've said it I think that this season no matter what happens unless we win the NBA finals somehow is a wash. Reality is no matter what happens right now Luka needs to take the summer and actually train And stay away from basketball international and NBA. Then we need to come in with this team next year that actually plays together in camp and learns each other and I will tell you the talent that they currently have assembled will get to the top of the West.
I think Kidd is more interested in sending a message about the roster construction and sending a message to Luka about his effort than he is winning games this year. I don't think that is a good thing at all. But I do believe that is what he is doing. If that is not what he is doing, his rotation decisions are total non-sense and he should be fired yesterday.
I just dont understand why he plays Powell…I mean he is starting the guy who fell out of the rotation last playoffs…C Wood is a 20ppg scorer and no he is not a worse defender than Powell….but Powell cant even hit a Jumper …Its at a point where I think its personal between Kidd and C Wood… Also McGee …yeah he might have been rusty at the beginning of the season but you got to play him…He is most surely a better defender than Powell and just as much of an lob threat…then Kidd has games where he plays Green only 16 min…why? it makes no sense at all…so yes I dont think J Kidd is making the most of the material he has and needs to go …dumb decision to get him and let Mosley go and now you got to fire a man who has a great history with the franchise

Considering that our biggest problem is defense, we had a good defense last year, and defense mostly comes down to player effort I feel like Kidd is the scapegoat here.

If they don't make the playoffs or go out 0-4 or 1-4 in the first round. Than someone will be a Scapegoat and it won't be Cuban and letting Powell walk won't be the answer. So it leaves either Shoes or Kidds. And of course Nico isn't to blame as he's a Yes man to Shark.
kidd hasn’t been the whole problem but he definitely isn’t the answer. his weird rotations have cost us about 5/6 games
Results have been horrible this year. Last years team would have destroyed this team.
Mavs probably have 5 of the top 20 loses in the NBA this season. Literally losing to the worst teams in the league with most of their starters missing(multiple times).
JB was a huge mistake but improved Green with Offensive threat of Wood off the bench should have off set that enough where good coaching could overcome it. Plus JB wasn't a defensive player at all, Yet this years team defense is horrible compared to last seasons.
It's not all Kidd, but someone is gonna be the scapegoat if they can't do something positive from here on out.
And Cubes isn't gonna fire the GM(Him) and he should be ashamed to fire a Yes Man in Shoes.
I actually enjoy watching the Mavs more lately when Luka is not playing. I've gotten tired of seeing him get burnt constantly, flop, and complain to the refs incessantly.
