What an amazing shutout win for Sammy! It was rude of us to drag it out and force Colorado to take penalty shots after they lost tho.

  2. ProfessorBeast55

This team owes Sammy a huge ass dinner. Couldn’t do nothing consistently offensively besides the stretch at the start of the 3rd

  3. ifonlyihadaname

Win or lose, fuck the shootout

  4. As far as losses go, that was all right

  5. Shabloinks

Good game, allowing COL to only one goal, but fuck the shootout.

  6. burton4416

Boring game but can we stop the 11 and 7 now?

  7. toedragrelease

My god are the boys ever terrible with shootouts. Wish the league would get rid of this garbage. Feels like a waste of time watching that.

  8. Gear4Vegito

I’m surprised Keefe didn’t use Kerfoot for the SO. /s

  9. howsshegoin

that was perhaps kerfoots best game as a leaf and the top six seemed so much more dangerous after he was elevated.

great point and getting to see a shootout is always fun.

  10. djlista

How the hell is this still in the game after 17 years?

I would love to bring up a statistic up but I bet leafs are like 0-40 in shootouts since 2016

  11. 1 point against a top team. Shootouts are dumb. onward

  12. Svalbard38

What a game for Marner. Never like to lose, but the skills competition isn’t hockey, so I care a lot less.

  13. TheCarrier89

I knew it was over when it went to the shootout. Leafs have to be the worst shoot out team in the league.

  14. lmaoleafs2022

11f and 7d continues to look like dog water. Don’t care that it went to shootout, the offence looks anemic

  15. Suns1324

Well fuck, you can’t be mad about that loss. Great game.

  16. AduroPinquis

Couldn’t generate much tonight but also kept the Avs to fewer than 30 shots through 65 mins with 5 penalty kills. I’ll take the point all day.

  17. nownowthethetalktalk

I guess we can’t expect too much from the guys in the shoot out. It was only their 2nd one all season.

  18. ElephantShell34

Oof, another pretty fuckin bad game for the boys. 3-3-1 since we supposedly got better at the deadline.

  19. think_long

Honestly, a boring game but the Leafs didn’t play too bad. The Avalanche played a very impressive road game and gave up very little. It was heartening to see Matthews have a few dominant shifts. That’s more like it. The shot still isn’t there but he was better. I know he scored last game but I don’t like Jarnkok on that line at all. Somebody save Kerfoot from himself. Poor guy just kills plays left, right and centre these days.

  20. another_plebeian

Sammy has 2 sub .900 games in his last 10. Murray has 7. Sammy bless.

  21. Mogilny89Leafs

I always laugh when people criticize the shootout choices. Who cares? It’s pretty much all luck. I’ll shoot in the next one if Keefe wants me to.

  22. Reggae4Triceratops

Rielly had a pretty good game.

  23. freakypsycho

This game is fine with me. Could have played better but I’m not too mad

  24. Showtime98

Fuck the shootout, anyways happy my boy Rielly had a great game!

  25. ih8pear

For all the skill guys we have, we really stink in the shootout.

  26. Potato4

Never like to lose but it was an enjoyable game with some high stakes moments

  27. Gear4Vegito

    1. Still don’t like 11 F/7 D.
    2. Still not liking the usage of Kerfoot.
    3. Samsanov MUST be every game playoff starter.

We are locked into the second seed so getting 1 P agaisnt COL is fine.

  28. GeneralHorace

what do people think of Lafferty? I think he’s been bad enough that he should be in healthy scratch territory. Guy does a whole lot of nothing out there.

  29. BackTo1975

Sky isn’t falling, and sure this’ll bring on the downvotes… But Colorado controlled the boards all night and won most of the the battles. They wanted it more. And they got it.

Little ways to go yet. And getting ROR back should be huge. Just not seeing the killer instinct and refusal to lose that this team will need in the playoffs. Better D overall at least. Just still the same softness issue up front. That was a very winnable game tonight.

  30. irkybirky

Gussy rang the iron in OT, and probably would have buried it, if Keefe would have played him a little more. I question Keefe alot, he’s average at best

  31. Radiant-Inside5380

19 shots just isn’t enough. Not a terrible game by any means but you’re not beating a legit team like the Avs with that little

  32. Another game with 11/7 where we go long stretches without sustained pressure. Other than getting looks at multiple D pairings right now it’s not worth the sacrifice of chemistry to the forward lines.

  33. SpicyP43905

Man, can’t we ever have a Toronto team that just plays…normal? Why have they always gotta be plagued with some abnormality?

The Raptors: Can’t ever close out a quarter properly, always blow large leads to make games competitive and make last second fake comebacks when down bad

TFC: Always scores first, but fails to play a full 90 and gets robbed of a win

The Leafs: I don’t even need to say anything bout them

  34. DevryMedicalGraduate

1 – I think the fact that Samsonov got a meaningful game vs a good team that still has something to play for is a sign that he is the playoff starter. If he didn’t win it with this game I dunno what else he needs to do.

2 – Hated how the team played this game. Colorado really showcased how to take advantage of the Leafs slow footspeed.

3 – I just feel kinda bad for Gustafsson. He’d probably be more effective if he wasn’t being used as a 7th dman. I’m fine with Sandin being traded but wasting an asset like Gustafsson is so stupid.

4 – I don’t like how this team has chosen to get slower and slower over the years. They’ve shed so much team speed through the years. They need to have more of a balance. This is a game where a few fast skating forwards would have helped with transition offense since the Leafs rely on forwards to be their puck carriers. I feel like Dubas might have over corrected for our lack of size and grit.

5 – Matthews looked like the Matthews of old for the first time this year despite not having a point.

I’ve said before in other threads that the teams that will be giving us the biggest problems going forward will be fast skating teams that are good in transition and can mount a counter-attack and lo and behold, it was shown in this game. The Devils and Hurricanes are the teams in the East that fit that description. Boston also plays a system that heavily calls upon their dmen to get involved in the offense more which is how Colorado was bottling us up on breakout attempts.

  35. CANUSA130

Most fans do not like the shootout. Why is it in the game?

  36. Holy shit, marner played 29min and matthews had 27. God damn Keefe, save some minutes for the playoffs

  37. Difficult-Fudge

Been on Mo’s ass all year, but his best game this year. Couple more games like that and I’ll retract all my trade Reilly thoughts

  38. blackswansonx

I get you are trying to push to get another goal but seems like you are doomed when you play mathews marner tavares Nylander so much in the last few minutes of regulation, then double shift in overtime. They are visibly gassed, for a while tavares just went and stood in from of his net and the defenceman tried to direct him to a guy to defend lol. Need to mix in a few more guys who might have some legs. although I get the full send go for it in overtime attitude.

  39. orionbuster

This subs blind faith in the dubas/keefe regime is laughable.

As I said before, we are never going to win a cup with Mo as our 1D nor with Sheldon as coach. With either of the 2 Pats as HC we likely have one cup already, and an ECF title on top of that.

Why the hell is Mathews shooting second in the SO? He’s a sniper. Georgiev played him perfectly reading him like a book. The SO order is obviously Marner/Nylander going 1/2, then JT or whoever is having a hot game after that. I mean even Randy knew enough to not use Phil in the shootout FFS.

I can see the « this is typical reactionary » replies coming after this post. I assure you it is not. Keefe has been gifted an almost unheard of promotion to a powerful NHL club as a rookie. He has done nothing with it but fail.

  40. Subtlety-

We’re really missing O’Reilly right now, man. I also feel like we’re missing someone like Engvall but maybe that’s just me. Our team’s overall speed has really taken hit.

  41. cappayne

Pretty sure this ends the streak of “the last 40+ games the Leafs held an opponent to 2 or fewer goals have been wins”

  42. Reilly stood out for me this game, for the right reasons. He looked like a plus defender, with a plus offensive mind. Not afraid to jump into the rush, and shoot the puck. We need more of that, consistently.

  43. ElephantShell34

Not a perfect metric by any means but gives a good idea of the current run of play the Leafs are on. MoneyPucks’s Deserve To Win O’Meter gives the Leafs the edge in ONE game since the trade deadline, Edmonton’s collapse last Saturday. The other 6 games they have not controlled play or scoring chances regardless of result.

All the advanced metrics are nosediving since they retooled their lineup.
