Sad that DeSmith got the loss he didn't deserve but just wanted to post in appreciation of Marcus Petterson, who had another fantastic game. I'm trying to find a silver lining in this befuddlement.

The refusal to figure out our goalie situation knowing it's been an issue year after year in the playoffs and at times the regular season is maddening. The fact that we didn't find a way to pick up one more really good, big defenseman, to both help out in the physical game and to help clear other players from in front of the net is also insane. The fact that game after game after game, and year after year after year, Pittsburgh is the softest team in the league, by a MILE is also maddening. No other team, and I mean NO other team in the league allows other players to crash the net after every single save. Go back & watch all year, every save someone crashes the net, skates up into the face of Jarry or DeSmith & every single Pens player skates away scared. If you don't think that has an effect over the course of a regular season or playoff series just go watch our two goalies. Is it the only thing? No. Is it a large part of the problem? No. But it's asisnine that not one player on this team steps in to say "no more of that". Again, not one other team in the league allows it. Most teams will instanlty put your on your ass the second you try it, but, not the softest team in the league.
DK, Do you happen to play the drums? I gotta say, I love your song's beat and it's very percussive and catchy. And I love how you come in right after the snare hits.
Heckstall, Burke and Sullivan bring out the worst in each other. They are the worst line in hockey. They suck. (My edit was to add "They suck.")
I think you’re spot on every time DK. Everyone knows the issues on this team and they’ve known for quite some time and the organization had multiple times to address it
Mario sold to Boston ownership who couldn’t possibly care like we do, weve hired a proven failure in Hextall as a GM and won’t fire him, and Burke is more concerned about making hockey woke than he is about how the team is actually playing. And as much as I like and appreciate Sully, he should probably get out for his own sake. Don’t let this horrible franchise continue to make you look bad by saddling you with old slow geezer rosters after you won two Stanley cups with youth and speed. Plus we all know Hextall is forcing sully to play his golden boy so his signing of him doesn’t look worse than it already is; gave up on younger, faster, harder working Kapanen but carter is still here. Yay.
We’ve had clowns running the Steelers and Pirates organizations for years now, completely squandering any roster potential season after season, and now I guess the penguins are joining the club. Many sad years ahead for Pittsburgh sports.
When the heck is poehling coming back. That fourth line, especially Carter, is a liability. If poehling was back, we could slide Carter to wing and have at least carter-poehling-archie. Then, when bonino is back, Carter gets pushed out of the lineup (hopefully).
With Sullivan keeping Carter and dumoulin on the ice is totally wasting this year and probably next year of Crosby mokan in letang's career
Part of a coach's job is to "hide weaknesses" – NOT COMBINE THEM. Sullivan just makes some of the oddest choices (non-choices?), I just don't understand his refusal to play situational/match-up hockey. I mean Red Beaulieu at least TRIED to stop The Waterboy. "If they put that Anders Lee in front of the net, I don't care if you have to stab him! Do not let him get away. You understand me?" Can you even imagine Sullivan saying something like that? "Hey, the Canadians have a lot of speed, let's rest the older guys tonight and match some of that speed." Never, never, never, never, ever…

Desmith is the hot goaltender and gives them the best chance to win. Jarry has given up 14 goals in his last four starts.

Do you think the fact that Carter is getting limited shifts is a sign he may get healthy scratched when poehling returns? I saw he only had I think 3 shifts in the 2nd period

DK you have been spot on all season. I have made several comments here before about the FACT that Jarry is so overrated and this team will be a contender once again, when they get the goalie situation resolved. The Pens should play DeSmith every game moving forward or they will be golfing in April.
Yo DK..Since you are a broken record, I can be a broken record too,,,,ha. I really think the answer is that the Pens do not even have a decent D. A decent D would make Jarry a LOT better. Worse than having Carter in the lineup is Dumo. He plays big minutes. Wouldnt surprise me if Dumo was out there for every one of Carters minus 1's. Dumo is a big drag on the team and it's not like he is going to contribute anything offensively..Ruhwedel would be a better choice as a regular..At least he can play defense…something a D man should be able to do. When Petry and Ruuta went down this is what happens
Has Sullivan has petitioned FSG to take 66 out of the rafters to replace it with a Carter 77 banner? Of course you'd actually have to get a hold of FSG, so I guess Lemieux's spot is safe for now.

Ron hextall continues to make mistakes and fix those mistakes with more mistakes. Mccan and tanev both let go should have kept one of them and let Carter go in the expansion draft. Okay than he trades Marino for smith and Matheson for petry, poehling a massive mistake. We traded 4 productive players in their 20's. All to acquire a 35 year old petry, turns out to not work as Marino has a bright future. And Matheson was just turning into the top pairing LHD everyone believed he could be. Made the left side D weak. Than he clears cap space by unloading more mistakes. And uses their cap space cleared up to get grandlund a 31 year old short small 5 mil for the next 2 years player. When we needed goalie help and defenseman. Chycren would be worth the overpay. 24 years old 4 mil AAV for 2 years could build around him for the next 10 years. Ron hextall is not capable of fixing the massive mistakes and problems he created. He must be fired. Marino had a 4 million aav Matheson 4.8 tanev 3.5 we really cant let young productive players in their 20's go for more mid 30's players. Its ridiculous. Rutherford knew how to acquire and evaluate young players and that has been the difference between the pens and Chicago and LA. The pens ability to acquire young players undervalued like marino, Matheson, mccan, petterson, tanev. Hextall did not need to blow up the blueline. He didn't have to give carter a 2 year deal and protect him in the expansion draft over mccan and tanev ? Awful and the grandlund trade just horrible. Fire Ron hextall!

You are a journalist, and one I feel that has integrity, which (and I mean no disrespect to you personally) seems to be fleeting in this highly political world we live in. Not to mention the clown show a lot of sports journalist (espn). So please continue to follow the stories, and damn the people who cry about repetitive nature.
That being said, moving along. Are we seeing Mike Sullivan's version of Craig Adams? That guy, under Bylsma, would play every game even when providing nothing more than a moderately okay penalty kill. Adams would go on to say that defending teammates was overrated. I wish I could give you the source of this, but it happened so long ago and it would take too long to find. I am sure you remember, it was going around Pittsburgh media pretty heavily at the time.
Jarry’s face and body language said he didn’t want to play. The D men wait till a defender is right in front of them to shoot the puck so that it hits them and goes out of the zone.
