  1. I think the Islanders finish third of fourth in their division this season behind teams like the Caps, then one or both of the Rangers and the Hurricanes.
That being said, I can't wait to see who will win round three of the Islanders / Lightning semi-finals this year.
With the loses the Lightning have taken, I think this is the year the Islanders finally beat the Lightning and go on to win the cup.

  2. I REALLY wanna see this team win. So many likeable people on this team: Z, Andy Greene, Pulock & Pelech, Pageau, Parise, Palmieri (lot of P’s on this team), Barzal, Bailey, Beauviller (lot of B’s too), the Identity Line. Look at the team from top to bottom and the only thing really standing in this team’s way from winning the Stanley Cup is if they choke.

  3. Before losing to the isles in the 2nd round in 2020, I had a great appreciation for what they had done

After seeing them, it was clear they were special. Once 2021 came around, it was clear; they would sneak into the playoffs and then cause havoc in them. And yet, people doubted them… they give it their all and put forth one of the best efforts I’ve seen at a cup run for a team that wasn’t even in the building when it was presented. Simply put, the Lightning beat them at their own game.

Based off of this, I truly think that if the Lightning had not gotten swept in 2019, the Islanders would be cup champions. That humiliating loss forced the Lightning to change their ways. As a result, they adapted a new playing style in the postseason. Their ability to adapt against the Isles is what won them that series. It’s obviously a shame it happened the way it did for them but people are finally putting respect on the Islanders name… more importantly, Barry Trotz. This should be a great year for them

Also, a bit of trivia: Remember Garth Snow? He may or may not have built the entirety of the Islanders’ current foundation. This year is where Lou has taken a bit more control, but just remember that the 2020 and 2021 rosters were almost all put together by Snow. When he got fired, everyone said “This should have happened x years ago!” Funny how a great coach can completely change a team. And I mean COMPLETELY. Imagine having a sub-500 record, 17 points away from the playoffs, AND losing your captain. A guy who had carried your team from basement dweller to at least in the mix for competition. Even his best efforts were only good enough for being 17 points out of the playoffs. That doesn’t just magically turn into a 2nd round exit and two conference finals appearances against the eventual Stanley Cup Champions (both being competitive series’ the whole way, especially the latter) overnight without any change. So if the roster didn’t change, what did? The coach! This is a daily reminder to thank Barry Trotz if you are an Islanders fan, because he helped turn you from John Spano levels of apathy to not just a respectable team, but one that is on the verge of a championship. Keep your heads up.

  4. In two previous years, they've hit a wall late in the regular season, but I don't see that this year. Despite their age, you can find quality depth at every position behind all the starters. Aho, Salo, Hickey, Bolduc, Gustafsson(?) on defense; Komarov, Panik, Johnston, Dalcolle, Bellows on offense; Cory Schnieder and Skaruk in goal (3rd/4th); There's still a chance they can add a scorer should they struggle offensively. I don't even think Carolina can match them even though offensively they're probably more dynamic. Canes' defense and goaltending took a hit.

  5. Their only deep playoff success has come in COVID seasons. They play a game with no offense, highly dependent on other team mistakes. They'll make the playoffs this year and get knocked out early.

  6. The only thing that scares me about this team is the way that they've slumped past the 50 game mark under Trotz. Hopefully the Olympic break will give them some energy

  7. Overall I think the isles improved while the bolts took a big step back. Isles lost leddy(who was Swiss cheese on defense in the playoffs) and eberle which isn’t bad considering palmieri is the better system fit and the signing was better for them. The bolts on the other hand lost most of their depth players and I could hurt them especially vs a team like the isles.

  8. If chara and greene pull through, we might win the cup, however with the age of our team, especially the defense and 4th line this is probably our last chance.

  9. I'd like to see chara and Greene split time with Aho. The kids got talent and needs to play. Also, Salo is looking good in preseason

  10. The Islanders look like they could be a legit Cup contender this season. Only the Lightning have stopped them so far the past two seasons. Not to mention the Islanders will be playing in their new arena this season as well. Should be quite the season for the Isles as they open their brand new arena….AND hold high aspirations & take dead aim at the Stanley Cup this season.

  11. The fact that they have salo as a dman too u can expect to see him playing a few games this year

  12. Elmont, NY gonna be the center of the hockey world this year….let's go islanders!!!!

  13. All three times Tampa won the Stanley Cup, they beat the Islanders in the playoffs. In 2004, they beat 'em in the first round. Plus the year Tampa lost to Pittsburgh in the conference final, they also beat the Islanders.

  14. The Tampa series was won and lost in game 5, when they gave up 8 goals and both goaltenders are still standing 2-3 ft out of the net this team will never win a cup if that happens.

  15. Old & slow rarely wins the race. That being said , when the playoffs being the combined experience may just weather the storm.

  16. YOU MUST BE JOKING THIS TEAM IS NOT MAKING THE PLAYOFFS BASED ON WHAT I SEE NOW. LEDDY, LADD, EBERLE AND KAMAROV ARE GONE. THIS SAME HAS NO CHEMISTRY, N DEFENSE AND THE DEFENSE IS NON EXISTENT. BOTH GOALTENDERS NEED TO GO. TIME TO REBUILD THIS TEAM. TIME TO FIRE TROTZ AND LAMOREILLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Ha how all these comments have soured….actually the reek is still fresh of this old tired team
