Sick of seversons play, can’t wait for him to be gone. Won’t miss ya buddy

  2. midsifear86

Finding the right linemates for Jack is tougher than you would think, it seems. Him and Bratt do not get the puck enough. Teams send the puck in deep on them and then they get pinned so often.

  3. Devil_Dane

I just want to let everyone know that I think my anger over Damon Severson is justified.

He was not the only problem, but that dopey penalty set the implosion off.

Oh, Akira is a future goalie god who was hung out to dry tonight.

Without Schmid, the score would’ve been something ridiculous like 12-2.

All I ask is that the Devils don’t fuck it up tomorrow in Tampa Bay.

  4. theketchupthief

Damon Severson is the hockey equivalent of what Evan Engram was to the Giants. Most of the time he’s good, occasionally great! But when he fucks up, it’s often in the most hilariously catastrophic “makes you want to punch your TV” kind of way

  5. heheyousaidduty

Fucking terrible, what a waste of an evening. I’m just gonna say it, Jack and Jesper have played like shit the past 3 games. Giveaway after giveaway, missed passes all over the place and they’ve lost the ability to finish. This shit ain’t gonna fly in the playoffs.

  6. YeOldePub

Okay I’m gonna have a small rant so bear with me. Now just wanna start off now by saying how I only got into hockey last season when well,… we know what was happening then, so I am by NO MEANS an expert and still keep learning hockey and it’s intricacies daily. That being said WHAT IN THE FRESH SAM HELL IS WRONG WITH US. Don’t get me wrong I am optimistic to the max and against better judgement and all odds I still believe we could win the cup. But it’s so angering everytime seeing these games like today where even if we weren’t playing great or our best we were WINNING — WE HAVE THEM AND SEEMS ALL WE GOTTA DO IS HOLD ON!!! And then we go ahead and get absolutely FUCKIN STUPID AND LOSE BY MULTIPLE GOALS DIFFERENCE NOT JUST BY ONE. I just don’t get it and I know how this sun always puts a positive spin on things but STOP it can only be so much the fact is we need to get our heads out of OUR ASSES if we do in fact want to even make the playoffs at this point. 😔 it’s just so frustrating when I know we have the ability and skill to be good. Okay sorry rant over

  7. Chico-_-

Sevo haters out in full force I see, nothing new here, teams in a slump, it happens.

  8. DontDraftSmall

The Devils should trade Bratt in the off season and get a different type of player.

  9. Goalies are both in their own heads now. Gonna be a tough first round with these soft goals

  10. ilovehenrique14

And they get to play Vasilevskiy again tomorrow night. This scheduling is fucking atrocious man. It’s like they get to March and realize « oh shit we need to finish this season soon just schedule like 20 games in 35 days fuck it »

  11. chefboleson

severson getting the shit for the game because of a penalty & a blunder with 9 seconds left even though he was the devils best dman tonight is so hilariously poetic and sums up damon severson in a nutshell

  12. Thehawkman2

Fitz needs to grow a pair and fire Lindy. You have a Jack Adams finalist standing next to him and you keep this schmuck who just watched his team blow a 2 goal lead in a matter of five minutes and he doesn’t think to call a timeout to settle them down?

What, was he waiting to make another dumb challenge that wouldn’t go the Devils way?

    Absolutely embarrassing loss.

  13. Hitman5286

Teams go through ups and downs. Unfortunately right now we are trending down, can’t afford to keep playing like this since the division is stacked. Tampa went through a similar down period just recently. Had three of their top stars benched for the entire 3rd period! We just have to believe the boys will bounce back quickly since the playoffs are right around the corner. LGD!

  14. mikefred2014

We need to get Lindy the fuck outta here. The same problems occur over and over and over again and do not get resolved.

Edit: Severson also needs to go. I try to defend this man because he makes good plays at times, but they are outweighed by his bad plays which are typically horrendous.

  15. Well, between this game and the Flyers, tonight basically went as bad as it possibly could have. (Not to mention Chelsea and Hofstra)

  16. ilovehenrique14

Over the last 7 games the team is average less than 2.5 goals a game on like 32 shots a night, which is getting really really tiring.

  17. jerseygunz

Every good team goes through 2 slumps a year, December was one, here’s two, get it out of your system boys before the playoffs, we are getting two in tampa, LGD

  18. KnightsOfBrohan

Rangers are gonna win too. It’s all slowly slipping away

  19. gleeson630

Bratt and Hughes better be a little tougher come playoff time. Perimeter play and trying to pass through people won’t work. You’re gonna have to bear down and play confident. You gotta want to contribute outside the rush game.

  20. I’m really tired of Ruff’s lines and this incompetent powerplay. Maybe it wasn’t Recchi’s fault

  21. TronVin

I wonder why that female reporter we all made fun of asked Jack Hughes what we can do to play a full 60 minute consistent hockey game. Oh wait, we didn’t have these issues months ago. They totally just came out of the blue last week.

  22. ugIysushi

i might get downvoted but idc. one thing i noticed with this fan base is the quickness to jump on people’s asses. there’s one thing of keeping the team accountable and calling them out when they play poorly. that’s normal. and that should happen. that’s a normal fan. but i’ve noticed that so many people start jumping on these fans and calling them bandwagons and pessimists and that they think we’re “tanking” after one game. just because someone mentions they’re upset at how we played doesn’t mean they have to be downvoted or told to hop another wagon. we ride with the wins and we fall with the losses

  23. Flamethrower753

Everything involving goalies need to be rebuilt. The Devils made very costly mistakes today, but watching other teams make the same mistakes and get bailed out by their goalie proves that we do have a goalie issue. Also, I’m seeing some people suggest Marty coach the goalies, but I doubt that he would be able change things since his hybrid/ standup style was unique to Marty and pretty much no one else. If we had a hybrid goalie, Marty would be the perfect teacher, but everyone plays in a butterfly style now.

  24. Sink__Bike__Run

    My thoughts –

    – Lindy needs to quit with the rolodex line combinations, especially when they don’t have off days to practice. Pick some lines and stick with at least 3 of them for several games… No wonder the new guy can’t get anything going, there is zero consistency.

    – It feels like 80% of our offense depends on Bratt and Hughes possessing the puck, controlling play, and opening up space. If they can’t do this or go invisible for long stretches, the quality chances are few and far between. Jack has to be nursing something still – he has been generating way fewer chances and making some bizarre decisions with the puck.

    – Either play Shango with some skilled guys or bench him – he doesn’t accomplish anything on the 4th line.

    – This one hurts because we deserved to lose but it looked like we might steal 2 points, only to completely collapse in a 3-minute period. Waste of a fine goaltending performance.

  25. Kornja81

Hang with me here, this will be a long breakdown of what I saw.

Going in person and up close really gives you a perspective. Sevo is so bad…. idk what advanced stats say, but aside his assist, he made horrible plays. All the lines were fucked. Mercer, nico and tatar didn’t click like they usually do. That got complacent and instead of calling a timeout when panthers scored one of their 1st 2 goals, Ruff threw out the 4th line I believe. Meier popped off last game while with Nico and he got rewarded with Haula as his center.

I had tickets to the end where devils shot twice and they had no pressure in the 1st and 3rd period, 30+ shots and I’d say maybe 7 were quality chances.

  26. Zestyclose_Estate248

My take is I think jolting offense with scrambling the lines isn’t working when you’ve got brand new players on the team. Also yegor is probably shaking off rust.

Idk, I just think the lines aren’t working out right now. Id say put mercer with hughes and bratt and timo with hischier.

  27. Gally341

Get the dooming out of your system. But here’s my best attempt at a level headed take:

    – These lines are new and need time to gel. Better to experiment before the playoffs
    – They got hemmed in during the first, but Schmid impressed
    – Second period was a great response to a lackluster start (love my boy Nico)
    – Third period collapse is unacceptable and not playoff level hockey. But this was not a playoff game. Take this one on the chin and move the fuck on

    Let’s go Devils

  28. MountainBaker8217

We did not deserve to win that game.

    * Akira Schmid *did* deserve to win that game.
    * This was a combination of everything this team does wrong: **slow start and inability to get the puck out of our zone**.
    * I can’t really think of a lot of bright spots in tonight’s game other than Akira and the fact that the third line of Timo, Haula, and Boqy looked good.
    * I think we played better in the shootout loss to Tampa than we did tonight.
    * I do not like losing three games in a row at all. I especially don’t like losses where we collapse in the third fucking period, but if I’m being honest, we, collectively, didn’t look good in this game for most if not all of the game. Too many shots allowed, too many shots on Akira, too many turnovers and chances in our zone.
    * I hate to say it, but what’s going on with Jesper Bratt and Jack Hughes? The team shouldn’t ride on their shoulders and Nico and Dawson have clearly stepped up as they’ve stepped back, but these are meant to be our 1, 2 punch offensively, and I’m not too happy with their offensive play this month.
    * Hope Lazar is okay. Saw he wasn’t on the bench near the end of the game.
    * I was really hoping that we’d take the Metro title this year, and although that isn’t out of the question, it does seem less likely after this past week of games we’ve played.
    * **I’m trying to remember a few things here: 1) we are really in the middle of a very tough schedule, with a lot of little trips away, with little to no practice, little to no rest, with a back to back every weekend of the month 2) we’re still third in the league overall 3) we weathered the storm of six losses in a row back in December, some of our worst defensive play in January, and other obstacles this year and still find ourselves here 4) and here means we’re still going to the playoffs**
    * Tomorrow starts a new week. I hope the Devils are able to learn lessons from these string of three losses and actually make changes and adjustments in their play tomorrow and looking ahead.
    * I wasn’t deterred back in December. I won’t be deterred now. But I’ll take a bit to be a little sad. See ya’ll tomorrow evening.

  29. mikebe1

It really really really does appear like Bastian is the glue of this team

  30. Lookin4Rockets

Please roll out new lines for at least 5 games

    Tatar-nico-meier
    Palat-hughes-mercer
    Shango-haula-bratt
    Boq-mcleod-lazar

  31. Kornja81

Also, Smith is so buttcheeks. Crosschecked a player once in front of the ref and ref let it go, 1 seconds later he was like « IMA FUCKING DO IT AGAIN! ». Bahl should be a regular. Not Smith.

  32. Mr7three2

We won’t make it out of the 1st round with the amount of late in the period goals allowed and overal 3rd period collapses

  33. Jballzs13

Maybe I’m being dramatic, but that shit ruined my night lmao

  34. JF-SEBASTION

Jack somehow – invisible on scoring -worrisome

  35. centralrhino

We’re getting swept in the playoffs. Doesn’t matter if we end up taking the division or not. This team is NOT ready. The rangers will humiliate us in 4 games. Go ahead, downvote me. You’re in denial if you think otherwise

  36. Crumbssss_

Straight up bench Jack for a game or two. Send a message because this is stupid

  37. BuyMeaSalad

My wife and I have been dating for 7 years. We have gone to at least 12 Devils games together. They have won 1 total of those games. Tonight was one of the losses. She never wants to go to a game again lol what a horrifying experience that was

  38. BababooeyAD

I’m just going to leave this here for if this doesn’t turn around in the next handful of games:
    https://apnews.com/article/d38704627762c7c8c26b2762a0aa15bf

    Seemed to work out ok…..

Much different situation w the team’s expectations going into that year but we’re in 3rd fucking place and shouldn’t be losing the way we’re losing with the level of talent on the ice. The problems on display have been lingering since before these last 3 and going back to some of the recent wins…..the constant line blending, the abhorrent PP, the bone headed penalties, the mental mistakes, the slow starts, early and late goals….yes, the players should bare responsibility but there’s no denying some of this shit falls back directly on the coaching and coaching decisions

  39. simplycycling

I am so angry about this game. How about we keep pressing in the 3rd period, not let them take it to us and steal our points?

And what is going on with Hughes? He is a shadow of himself since coming back – I think he needs a couple of games off, either to heal up, or clear his head, whichever is necessary…because we might not make it out of the first round with this version of Hughes.

I’m trying to keep things in perspective, there’s still plenty of time to start peaking, but I don’t care what their last ten game record says, the Panthers are scrubs. We should have run over them.

It’s all part of the growing process, I know. Tampa Bay has shown us the last couple of games what an experienced team that knows how to win, that knows how to finish when they need to, looks like. We’re not there yet, and I’m actually fine with that. We’re still progressing as a team , we might not even be at that point next year. But if we want to get there, we have to learn how to take care of business, when it comes to playing teams like the Panthers, and when we let them dictate a third the way we let them today, we are not ready to really compete.

  40. TheNightRain68

We gotta turn it around tomorrow. I do not want to be swept 3 in a row to Tampa. Gotta hold off the rags and get to the canes

  41. Boston literally just lost 3 of 4 last week to fucking detroit, chicago, and edmonton. The devils will be fine teams slump it is what it is. Better to slump now then in a month

  42. I’ll try to be positive.

    – Schmid is good and should get the starter nod until he proves otherwise.

    – McLeod is anchor of a 4th liner.

    – Time to split up the first line. Put dawson with Jack and put Timo up on the first. Timo could use an assist King like Swiss Prince.

    – Jack needs a few games off. Bratt needs to stop asking for an 8 mill contract.

    – Severson isn’t bad and he had a bad game like everyone else. You just shit on him bexause he’s Severson. Timo had a boneheaded penalty a few games ago and y’all were silent. Penalties happen.

    – Bahl needs to be the regular over Smith. Smith is a liability.

    – NCAA wrestling has been good tonight, holy shit watching Starocci fall his match was epic.

    – were still going to the playoffs and we’ll be fine. Season is long and we can’t expect to win them all.

  43. Cromiee

    – 3-2 OTW vs TOR (allowed late game tying goal).
    – 2-1 L vs TOR (both goals allowed in 1st due to a slow start)
    – 5-3 W vs NYR (came back from down 2-0)
    – 4-3 OTL vs NYR (blew 3-1 lead)
    – 4-1 L vs CAR
    – 4-3 L vs BOS (4 GA 2nd period)
    – 3-1 L vs BOS (tied 1-1 late in 3rd)
    – 5-4 SOL vs CAR (allowed late game tying goal)
    – 4-3 OTW vs NYR (came back from down 3-1)
    – 5-3 W vs CAR (came back from down 3-1)
    – 3-2 OTW vs VGK (late game tying goal)
    – 4-3 SOL vs VGK
    – 4-3 L vs TOR (blew 3-2 lead late)
    – 3-0 W vs CAR
    – 4-1 L vs TB
    – 4-3 SOL vs TB

Still have 1 more game against TB/NYR/BOS.

    Overall record: 6-6-4 (3-6 in regulation/5on5)

I know this is a little off topic, but I decided to skim through the schedule to see how we have faired against the top teams this year. Wasn’t sure where to make the cut off, so I arbitrarily went with top 7 in the league, mainly since I feel like including Tampa is relevant due to the mini playoff-like series going on and their recent playoff success.

The NYR games feel pretty irrelevant at this point. Both teams have added players since those games have been played, so the final game of the season series will say more than the prior games.

Edit: for comparison, a quick search I got Carolina being 5-8-1 and NYR being 7-4-3 against those same opponents. Carolina’s next 5 games are: NYR, NYR, TOR, BOS, TB, then their schedule is pretty light the rest of the way. That stretch could very well decide if they win the Metro or not.

  44. Minimum-Operation-71

Stinks, got to improve but unto the next one. If you want to give up be my guest, but everyone is going to have bad losses.
