  1. I feel sorry of the Oilers, Campbell was a waste of money. I would have signed him for 2.2 mil per season as that is "Jack's" actual cap

  2. Goaltending is almost always a factor. From Vasilevskiy to Price, Giguerre to Hasek; any team that encounters a 'wall' are in for a long series.

  3. Oiler goaltending isn’t as big of a problem as Toronto’s. It’s Edmonton’s defence that is the problem. The defence is outright embarrassing and something we haven’t seen in a long time.

  4. “Will Goaltending Be a Key Factor…?”
    Maybe the dumbest question ever.
When has goaltending ever NOT Been a Key Factor?

  5. I will say this as an oilers fan. The oilers can play defence they can lock Down games they did it in the 3-2 win against Boston and they’ve done it in the first game they beat the leafs 5-2. The problem arises when you never know what you’ll get from the oilers defence sometimes they just fall off the rails and look like the worst defence you’ve ever seen in your life and sometimes they can be pretty good not amazing but good enough to keep teams to 1-2 goals a game. They need to find consistency and if they can do that they can go far but as of right now they still haven’t shown consistency on the defensive side of the puck.

  6. I like the fact that the Leafs are coming back with Murray tonight. If he lays another rotten egg it justifies bringing Woll into a 3 goalie rotation.

  7. Tampa sputtering till it’s playoff time so let’s hope glass Murray is ready to go come April 😊

  8. Indeed! The Oilers with Campbell being so up and mostly down, and Skinner ? Can McDavid and pals outscore mediocre goaltending? Maybe for a series or two, and as for the Leafs Samsonov 1-6 lifetime in the playoffs and Murray his best playoff days 6 years ago, and persistent injuries huge question marks facing the Leafs who will face the big cat Vasilesky who becomes a wall in the playoffs. If Toronto gets just ok goaltending they are gone again in the first round.

  9. It's hard to say with the Leafs honestly. Last few years in the playoffs scoring has been their number one problem, both 5 on 5 and on the powerplay. Goaltending has not been stellar but the overall scoring has been worse. Can't help but think that has to be well improved upon this year.

  10. Skinner will kill the Leafs if they play Edmonton….Goaltending doesnt win or lose games, it accomodates those 2 results…..Coaching a good System properly wins games….thats the final answer.

  11. Both teams can put the puck in the net everybody knows this, it's also well known that both teams are weak on the backend (defense) and lack elite goaltending. This is not a recipe for success come playoffs, we've seen it time and time again.

  12. Hope Leaf goaltending gives them a chance to win a playoff series against Tampa. Leaf fans have some pretty high hopes. If the Leafs do suffer another playoff series loss – at least Leafs are having good regular season records.

  13. its always a factor but the Leafs have issues in front of the net which most goalies cant solve. the Leafs are bad at helping their goalies. thats why they always lose in the first round while their goalies are playing alright.

  14. To what degree goaltending will or won’t help either Canadian team win its 2023 1st-round series is an interesting question although I have huge concerns, as a fan of the Leafs, on the continued use of Matt Murray by Sheldon Keefe. Murray’s last 3 starts (Canucks, Oilers and Sabres respectively two weekends ago, last weekend and last night) have each featured 2 or more ugly goals given up. Keefe would be absolutely delusional to start Murray again unless Samsonov craps the bed or, more likely, the Leafs play games on consecutive calendar days Eastern Time. Since the last playoff series the Leafs didn’t involve games played on consecutive calendar days ET, and only then involved the use of a backup goalie for part of a game, I don’t see Murray getting much playing time unless Keefe decides to just completely disregard the body of evidence throughout the regular season that Murray can’t be trusted to be any better than Petr Mrazek ever was on NOT being a sieve.
