@Islanders de New York

1. You have to love Ilya. What a great kid! He has even put him self out there a bit with Shannon for interviews. I would adopt this kid in a heartbeat. However, Lee's comment about waking up the bench is what catches my attention. I have commented before on my worries about the mental game which I think is the Achilles Heel of this team. I just cannot fathom how any player can get turned off, especially in game, and call themselves Pros. I understand they are human but I believe they give that away as an excuse when you get paid to be a Pro to play a game the fans hang their very hearts on (IMHO). The Isles have been gutting it out well. I imagine it is like riding the edge of a razor for the players. I hope they can keep it up. It would say a lot about their own sense of purpose and their desire to be real partners with the fans. I think someone should be pounding it into the players that they are proving they can beat anyone with any of their players. Its been unfolding live. We all got to believe!

  2. I also think having the identity line back together has ramped up their collective physicality which I think is a must to keep them winning. Parise for me has been an unsing hero. Older guy just pushing his motor to the max at all times. I really like him as an example for the young guys.

  3. Unbelievable performance by the Isles against the Leafs. That was completely unexpected. I trash Yoda for a lot of things he does, but Fasching was a great, low risk gamble that is paying off. Engvall looks like he may work out too. After a long list of flops, it's nice to have 2 gambles work out. With all our injuries, we wouldn't be in a WC spot without them. If Barzal comes back strong and Horvat comes out of his coma, we just might make it past the 1st round……. as the #1 WC. Beating Carolina would be a big upset, but beating Boston would be a miracle to rival Jesus and the water thing. I think we would handle NJ, if Sorokin and Varly stay hot. NJ will always give you chances, but the floodgates could open if our goalies frustrate them.

  4. I thought pierre e. was the isles best player. Had a fool last week tell me engvall was lou's big scoring need move. Yet the guy contributed 0 points to the seven goal party vs. leafs. And leafs are no cup contender who will go out in first round vs. tb again. Their d, goaltending-nothing on them screams contender and leafs are soft and only go as far as the three scorers take them.
