  1. Im actually worried that there will no defensive defensemen anymore all the young dmens want to be offensive ones.

  2. Defenseman joining the rush is changing the NHL? Ummm…I used to watch Bobby Orr doing that 6 decades ago.

  3. Very good breakdown. You would almost never see random non-elite d-men crashing the net back in the 90s-00s. The game is definitely faster

  4. I think d-men joining the rush or just being more offensively in general is the biggest impact. I disagree that a 4th liner today would be a 2nd liner back in the day. I think there are a few reasons, 1. the talent is much more saturated, you have a couple more teams now with Columbus, MN, Vegas, Seattle, and if you want you can even throw in Nahsville & Winnipeg in there. So you have players in the league now on the lower end talent wise that would of never been in the league had some of these new teams no pop up. You also don't have shut down D-men and Goaltenders like there was say 25 years ago. There are no Lindstrom, Scott Stevens, Chris Pronger, Chris Cheleios etc, sure people will say Makar or Karlson, etc but they are a more like a Paul Coffey or Ray Borque, ok defensively but they not shut down like say LIndstrom or the others I just mentioned was. Same with goaltenders, there is no Roy, Hasek, Belfour, Brodeur, and again people will say Veslivesk(sorry spelling) but while he is a good goalie he has never carried the Lightening to a cup he was always on a very good team. They style of goaltending is also pretty much the same with every goalie now, get the biggest guy you can find and have him slid around on his knees every shot, so players practice for that. Back in the day you had various styles so it was hard to practice against just one type of goalie. Now they are all the same, how many times do you see a goal where the puck is along the goal line below the face off circle and you see the goalie down on w/one knee up and glove facing the puck carrier and he just puts it right over the goalies shoulder and by his error, no goalie ever did that back in teh day and those shots where rarely taken because the goalie would just stand there and let it hit him, there was no opening.

Also how many goals have been scored because there is no 2 line offsides like there use to be. And I'm not even referring to just your bang-bang play that creates a breakaway or odd man rush. There are a lot of plays(goals) that happen just from you typical 2 line pass you and set up in the zone and create something that would have been whistled offsides and never even developed had that rule not been removed. People want to talk about Gretzky and how bad goalies where back in the 80s well he also had 2 line offsides, can't imagine how many more goals and assists he would have if he didn't have to worry about that.

  5. 3:07 I hear that right? Huh? Makar isn’t an elite defender? You’re kidding right? He shocks me weekly on his defensive plays. Of course offensively he’s nuts..

  6. Thanks for snubbing the #3 team in the league that uses the 2/3; Devils fans are well used to our team being dissed or ignored.

  7. Why do you block the plays you want us to see with a banner that blocks the whole screen? What a waste of time.

  8. SURPRISE! You Don’t mention Hamilton, don’t mention the Devils….Ham is out foxxing fox, SHOULD be in Norris contention. Never talked about.

  9. Having a 3 rd man high has always been a traditional setup in hockey and there has always been active dman. To say Calgary is struggling because they haven’t employed your 2-3 strategy isn’t, IMO, correct they had a huge shift in forward personnel. I think watching the playoffs reveals that hockey hasn’t changed all that much, the players are better but the same themes play themselves out year after year, winning battles in the tough areas, generating offensive zone time with a cycle, watch the bruins currently, and playing tough hard nosed hockey wins Stanley cups.

  10. That's my main concern. The game is virtual now, it's not in front of our eyes because it's corporate, people can't afford to go see it. They will eventually won't even need real players, they can just simulate a game, tell people it's real and keep them entertained and focused on doing some task for the benefit of someone else. Simulacra and simulation, they even put the book on it in front of us and subtly told us their plan. 100% control means removing all interpersonal connection and trying to control every little aspect of nature. Don't believe anyone can be so ruthless and power hungry? Welcome to the real world that's you've been ignoring and avoiding your whole life.

  11. Skilled players have the freedom now like no other time…

Watch Paul Kariya highlights. Guy would do so well today… during his era he was held back by the amount of hooking, clutching and grabbing and other physical interference…

  12. Nice presentation (as always)
Glad you’ve mentioned J Han. Hes on Substack.

  13. Can you make this video in French so we can get the Habs to stop being coached like it’s 2002

  14. Please make the titles smaller. It's frustrating to not see the goal because of an overly big black tag. Great analysis though!

  15. Great vid!

Ovi is my current fav, I want to see him pass 900 goals and I have huge respect for Crosby, they are the best players of their generation, but I could argue the Malkin and Stamkos are just as good as Crosby, point wise. Stamkos has 35 less goals than Crosby in 186 less games. Malkin is 273 points behind Crosby in 128 less games. I'm in no way saying any of this to dis Crosby's skills, leadership and greatness, but do the math as if Crosby, Malkin and Stamkos played 82 game seasons. Crosby would have likely passed 99s assists record and Stamkos could have beat 99s goal record along with Ovi. If you really want to see numbers, do the math for 66 playing full seasons, he would have scored over 1000 goals and 2000 assists.

  16. The names and the faces change but the story's the same one ! The game of Hockey has ALWAYS been about high powered offence puck possession and control If you were to take the time and watch Early NHL games of of the 30' 40' 50 's and 60s you would see rushes from one zone to the other on EVERY shift with very little defence other than hard checking. They were usually made by the best players on each team like G.Howe T.Lindsay on Detroit.. M Richard and Boom Boom Geffrion for MTL , Hull for Chicago ,Mahvolich for Tor. ! The game is about possession not shooting in the corners and chasing it which at one time became the norm which in turn created the trap which made the game BORING ! To combat that they took out the centre red line and along with some rule changes has helped bring it back the way the game was designed and was originally played all along ! Nothing to see here ! Move along !

  17. This video was so well laid out and explained, both visually and otherwise that you gained a subscriber. From a hockey players viewpoint, keep it up, man.

  18. Try not to put big titles in the middle of the screen that block the actual action that you're trying to show.
