hard to say either way – but BG thought enough of him to spend a 1st rounder on him – so get him signed and out of Russia.
I don’t think he will be an immediate NHL player – probably 2 years of Iowa wild for him
Megelsen
If he is any smart he emmigrates out of Russia

If he signs, he’ll get more minutes. That’s how they get ya. But I’d rather he come over to Iowa.

Wouldnt be surprised if he signs with Metallurg. He’ll make more playing there the next two years than he would in Iowa (and also get to be near family/friends). Hopefully its not a three year deal or more though.

i honestly wouldn’t hate he say in the KHL… if they gets top minutes. The KHL is an elite league and having him cook there could be great for development. We’re in the heat of the buyout years so he still won’t be on the Wild in probs 2026… 3 years. It’s a tough situation.

The decision is his alone.
But look at how NHL ready 97 was when he came over after playing multiple years in MHL/KHL. Might not be the worst idea for all parties

I like that hes given himself a deadline to decide

He had his playing time limited for not signing so if he does sign I’m confused as to why he didn’t just do it earlier.

Mettalurg played a lot of games with his playing time trying to bully him into signing an extension (like what happened to Khusnutdinov with SKA). I have to think that he would have signed said extension if he wasn’t leaning towards playing in Iowa next year.
That said, he’s a young kid, and I would never blame someone for getting cold feet about moving half a world away from his friends and family once it starts to feel real

He can get more consistent ice time in a country where he won’t get conscripted to be a bullet sponge
