Said it all Gil. The inconsistency is maddening. When we get hot they look like contenders, when we’re bad, they always drag ass to the 3rd period. Then they hit the switches but it’s to late. So painful 😣

I'm not buying the "exhausted" excuse for their poor performances over the weekend. They played full of energy on Tuesday beating Toronto and then had two days off before playing CBJ. I can't see how all their energy was somehow drained over two days prior to the weekend. In fact, Palmieri didn't say the team was tired, he flat out said they weren't ready to play against CBJ and they didn't look any better Saturday. What's frustrating, is that had they picked up 4 points instead of 1, they would be 7 points above the cut line with only 9 games to play…a virtually insurmountable lead.
With Barzal out, it's like having 2 guys out because Horvat is doing nothing without him and our power play is back to league bottom again. I do agree with your assessment on playing Varlomov. If they're going to play Sorokin 100% of the time, then they should have traded Varly. Varly absolutely should have played against CBJ and I had fully expected him to do so.
2 points –
1) mayfeild needs to go
and
2) we should really start thinking about declining power plays. It only gives the opposition momentum.
we have THE BEST 2 GOALIE TANDEM IN THE LEAGUE and we are wasting their outstanding efforts
Lost weekend for sure. Just when you thought isles were rounding into playoff form with impressive win over laffs and ready to lock playoff spot down they lay that egg. First no excuse not to beat league worst bj's. Then to lose to sabres the next night as a goalie who got shelled for 10 goals the previous game shuts isles out as the isles sorry offense showed its ugly face once again. And isles almost got a break when pens blew yet another three goal third period lead only to have dumb caps d man put the puck on malkin's stick for the game winning breakaway goal. That loss finishes off caps. A playoff berth is no certainty at this point. And the schedule does no favors the rest of season. nj who is battling for division and two seed, trip to car, tb, then tb at home, plus two games at caps who have handled isles twice already. I wouldn't even say habs and flyers are a given win. Maybe isles have hit their 'trotz wall' at the 75 game mark? Or is this more of a lane thing?
