*“People will talk about his goal-scoring, and I think he’s one of the top, if not the top pure goals scorer in this draft, but it’s how he scores his goals,” Treliving said in 2021. “He has the ability to go into hard areas, the ability to out-will people to create chances for himself or his teammates. He’s highly, highly competitive, highly intelligent, (with) an excellent shot, and excellent release.”*

What are the Flames getting in Matthew Coronato
Matthew Coronato is a highly-touted prospect who was selected 13th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. He is a skilled winger known for his goal-scoring ability, strong work ethic, and tenacity on the ice.
Coronato played in the United States Hockey League (USHL) for the Chicago Steel during the 2020-2021 season, where he had an outstanding year. He led the league in goals scored with 48 in just 51 games played, and also had 37 assists for a total of 85 points. His impressive performance earned him several accolades, including the USHL Player of the Year award and a spot on the league’s All-Rookie Team.
At 5’10 » and 183 pounds, Coronato is not the biggest player on the ice, but he makes up for it with his speed, quickness, and tenacity. He is an excellent skater who can change direction quickly and has good hands that allow him to make creative plays. He is also willing to go to the dirty areas of the ice to score goals and battle for loose pucks.
Overall, the Flames are getting a talented and hardworking prospect in Coronato who has the potential to develop into a dynamic goal scorer at the NHL level. While he is still young and will need time to develop, his skill set and work ethic suggest that he has a bright future ahead of him in the NHL.

I do think it’s important to remember that his realistic comparables are 2nd/3rd liners and not 1st liners. This guy is closer to Dube than Iggy. I’m excited for him but I think expectations are a touch high

From what I’ve read, he’s reminding me of a Toffoli type shot with around Dube/Mangiapane speed. Could be a very good middle six finisher guy with Backlund/Kadri.
