I totally get it, but eventually we all need to work our way past the Buff loss.
Yes it screwed us the next couple years, but he was clearly on the way out anyways the year after. I never get all this discussion on how we’ve never recovered.
I’d argue the Jets have always put a massive reliance on a few key pieces, like Buff, and when those guys leave or are playing like shit, we’re completely fucked.

So PLD is for sure backing us into the same corner Trouba did; at least we had Trouba for what 5-6 seasons after drafting him?
The trade with CLB looked it favoured them originally back when Roslo had some value, then tilted our way when PLD started the year on beast mode, now IMO it’s back in Jackets favour.
Laine ain’t perfect but he’s staying in Ohio and is now playing well down the middle.
With PLD… maybe we luck out and get something out of MTL. I’m not holding my breath.
I remember being so elated when we moved up to #2 in 2016 draft. Now it’s just bad memories.
What a series of missteps by this organization since then. Damn shame.

Buf was the heart beat of the Jets and I agree the team started their downhill slide after he was gone. But I would also point to the disingenous way Chipman & Chevy shoved him out the door AND their complete lack of acknowledgement of Buf’s importance to the team as a cause as well. I have to wonder if the front office has such big dick my-way-or-the-highway mentality, just how much of that gets laid on the players still here?
Almost 4 years since the drama started and nothing’s been done to thank Buf for what he gave to the team and the city. And that’s on Chevy and Chipman.

This franchise has been a failure. Sad state with almost 12 years and 3 playoff series wins.

Management apparently knew that Byfuglien wanted to leave before the season began. They had time to plan around it. Instead, they’ve moped about how unfair it was for years now.
If we trade Dubois, it’s almost certainly going to be for futures…so I don’t see why we’d keep the core together for next season.

Im going to post this one more time here. Look to Carolina as an example of a team 4 years ago nobody wanted to play for with a half empty arena.

Now with good drafting, good owner, great culture, and fantastic coach this is a team set up for years and years, with picks, with prospects, with cap room.
And if you note what they have also done which if we have to trade PLD, Scheifelle, Wheeler, and perhaps others, I will say take the picks and prospects……..but what Carolina has been able to do, in a sneaky way is take advantage of other teams screw ups in signing. And almost added top end talent later in their careers, yes, FOR FREE:

Patches, Burns, Kotkaneimi (OK they had to bid that one but gave up 0 assets).

Players I see as cast offs coming up and have something to prove from teams that will be up against the cap we COULD use **if we have cap room**:

Monahan, Gudas, (name a few on Philly), Hart, Coutoure, Boeser, Edmundson, Henrique………and thats just off the top of my head. All will be almost free, Johanson (Nashville), Duschene………..oh theres a plenty.
Hard to convince me that our PP might not be more useful with Duchesne, Monahan, Boeser on it and Wheeler (pick one or two) off it.

If we do have to take picks………….we do have ample cap room. In goal you can have Hart (develop properly) or Brhygalov (way overpaid but still useful and he said he likes Winnipeg at one point).
All overpaid, yes, but all useful in short term to be competitive and teach the kids IN a positive way.
