  1. I legit was coming here to say element and intangibles. Steve did it. He's the right age too. O'reilly or Bunting, 1 needs to be re-signed

  2. Bunting will get a deal prob $4.5M to $5M per year X 4 years.. going rate for 20 goal scorers

  3. If Toronto beats Tampa Bay in the First Round maybe. If Toronto beats Boston in the 2nd Round Hell Yes sign Bunting. If the Leafs reach the Stanley Cup Finals give all the boys all they wish and desire. If the Leafs break their 55 year drought, party for the rest of our lives. No day will be bad. Ever. Lose to Tampa Bay and shake the fruit tree and don't look back

  4. No. We already see that he is replaceable on the top Line for a player getting 2mil. You can get 2 players for the same cost.

  5. We should actually work on paying AM 25mil, marner 20mil, and Nylander 10mil. Following the same logic of Dubas, that's what they should be worth in 7 years and the cap will eventually go up, right?

  6. They should've kept Hyman. 35 goal guy now with Edmonton. I see him play a lot now and I have zero idea what Dubas was thinking letting him go.

  7. At the time, we were looking at Hyman's age, the money we would have had to pay him, the term of the contract, and the fact that he has knee issues. I'm happy Hyman is doing well in Edmonton, but we were not sure if signing him long term at the higher dollar amount was a good investment. You win some and lose some!

  8. "Is it because Bunting is a Leaf, therefore he gets more attention than a comparable player on a different team?" One of the most self aware things a member of the Toronto media has ever said.

  9. Simple answer YES!!! dubass should sign him NOW to the standard hometown team/CAP friendly discount contract of 7 years 11 million per year!!! BOOK IT!!!

  10. Bunting is a $2 to $2.5 million player . Maximum 3 years but 2 years preferably. Easily replaced if he wants too much or too long a term.

  11. Can they even resign Bunting? 4 mil sounds like the number but this team has basically the whole bottom 6 coming off contracts and Samsonov to resign. They've got like 9 mil in space to do all that unless the cap goes up. Plus it's not like the team seems set on Jarnkrok and Bunting as there top 6 LW's. It feels musical chairs at those positions.

  12. At 4 mil, no I don’t think so based on what he brings, but it also depends on what happens with guys like kerfoot and holl, both of whom I think should have been moved at the deadline. I don’t think bunting is a top 6 guy and I’m personally not a fan of all the extra crap he pulls. I love someone that plays a hard game and gets under opponents skin like a Brady tkachuk but it seems like he gets himself so worked up trying to bug someone that he’s actually the one that gets the most pissed and thrown off his game. If he would stop acting like a damn soccer player and pretending he was basically shot every time someone touches him I’m sure I’d love him, it’s the Marchand and Matt tkachuk tactics that I could do without and until he figures that out he isn’t worth the roster spot. End up with another kadri hurting the team at crucial moments cause he can’t control himself

  13. Bunting is an ok player – officials don’t like him, so as he doesn’t draw penalties- he hurts the Leafs.

  14. I believe quite strongly that had Dubas offered per-season cap hits of @ most US$4 million on the latest contracts doled out to each of AM34, Marner and Tavares just imagine the cap space the Leafs would've had rather than what they've had throughout the Dubas era (often having to use PSCHs of players on long-term injured reserve just to remain cap-compliant). I see no reason not to offer Bunts, given his dropoff in point production from February, a PSCH of @ most US$950,000 (his current one) on his new contract, & only then for 2 seasons. Canucks' winger Kuzmenko, on his existing contract, has the same although he and his current team agreed to a 2-season US$11 million contract.

So how have Bunting (Scarborough-born) and Kuzmenko (born in the Russian Far East [Yakutsk in the Sakha Republic]) done on the point production meter this season? Excluding preseason stats Kuzy and Bunts respectively have:
    – among 68 and 46 points over 73 and 74 games, scored 37 and 21 goals, thus having averaged 0.54 and 0.46 goals per point
    – averaged 0.93 and 0.62 points/game including
    – among 25 and 11 points over 25 and 23 games played from February, scored 16 and 6 goals, thus having averaged 0.64 and 0.26 goals/point
    – averaged 1 and 0.48 points/game

If Bunts thinks he should get from the Leafs a PSCH anywhere NEAR the one Kuzmenko got in his newer NHL contract, the Canadian winger is very much mistaken. Kuzmenko, born mere months after Bunts, bounced within the system of Moscow-based KHL club CSKA (ЦСКА [TsSKA] in local Cyrillic), playing parts of 2 seasons at the KHL level before getting more playing time later on while under contract. Kuzy then played 4 seasons with SKA, a club based in what was, during Soviet times, Leningrad but would be renamed St. Petersburg after the Soviet collapse. As noted earlier, as much as the Canucks' agreeing to signing Kuzmenko to a US$5.5 million PSCH may seem dumb, it'd be even DUMBER to sign Bunts to such a large PSCH. It'll be interesting to find out what happens during the Leafs' offseason particularly should a 1st-round exit end their current season.

  15. I don't see room on the team for kerfoot anymore. But I guess we will see after the playoffs who performs better?

I have a feeling the leafs are waiting to see how the playoffs shake out. Bunting has already shown to want to play on this team and can handle it. Whether that's on the top line or a different line it feels like he enjoys it here.

Maybe, depending on playoff performance they let kerfoot walk and use some of that freed money to sign him. If they don't resign kerfoot and give bunting maybe 3.75 for 6 years? That would be a 20 million dollar contract and be kind of comparable to Brandon Hagel. Kerfoot plus buntings current contract is 4.4 million total (3.5+0.9), overall the leafs would end up saving 0.65 million. Maybe they only offer bunting kerfoots old contract amount and then that gives leafs an extra 0.9 million overall.

All this to say I'm excited to see the moves and the look of the next seasons leafs

  16. bunting is a 3rd liner… anything more than 2.5 mil per season then he has to walk to FA

  17. Leafs will probably resign Bunting but will eventually lose Matthews and Nylander. In a few years, the Leafs will be a lower 3rd team and will have to begin another rebuild. The TML circle of life.

  18. 4 is like the max. U are saving 3.5 million off Kerfoot and if u are trying to keep ROR u cannot afford to pay both of them 4 million. I'd offer Bunting long term for 2.5-3 million. Even 8 years which would be risky but would save money and he would get his 20-24 million still which is more then he prob wouldve ever made if he didnt get to play with Matthews and Marner.

That said. if ROR somehow is willing to sign a really cheap discount for leafs (like 3 mil x 5 years) then i'd be willing to overpay a little for Bunting at around 4×4)

  19. If I was a player I would go for the $$$ in the first 3/4 of my career and than sign a hometown discount contract when my family is set up for life. I said the same thing about hyman and Campbell these guys can’t play forever
