Rangers back to passing up prime scoring opportunities…tale as old as time.

    Very frustrating game to watch.

« 2-0 is the most dangerous lead in hockey »

« Our third period is really good though »

    « We’ve made comebacks before »

Enough with glorifying and excusing bad first and third periods, yes, even if we end up winning. Playoff hockey games are won in 60 minutes, not 40 or 20. The Devils, an offensively-centered team with the physicality of the pee-wee scrimmages they hold between periods, not to mention one of the most inconsistent starting goalies in the league, managed to hold off our supposedly magical « third period comeback » that can supersede any pathetic first period effort it’s tasked to overcome. We now know exactly how these guys are going to play in the playoffs. Now it’s up to the coaching staff to articulate the message to the players that half-assed games are not going to work from here on out.

really good game, should be a fun series. i know a lot of people are reactionary about reg season games but you could see the rangers start to grind them down in the 2nd and 3rd. devils are soft and skilled, rangers are heavy and skilled. theyll need to take advantage of that and they’ll be good. getting lindgren in over harpur is also extremely necessary.

thought igor, kane, tro, fox, mikkola and miller had great games. we’ll be fine guys, devils are a good team too, just gotta take away their time and space with physicality.

Super close game, but those usually end up annoying me the most. Much like with the Canes, that was a playoff preview, and much like the canes the Devils are showing us why they should be respected.

They’re fast, and precise with their passing, in rather embarrassing contrast with our long passes that more often than not just end up being turnovers. It’s something I wish this team would stop doing altogether, but so much of our offense relies on it in the transition. Even more annoying was the endless cycling they were doing late game; desperate attempts to create space and open up a possible lane to shoot. On the bright side, Miller was looking real good out there. Lots of moments where he stifled a dangerous offensive play.

Just one of those games that knows how to stick it in. Shake it off, regroup, we hit buffalo tomorrow.

    See ya then.

Carolina lost in regulation so NJ are just one point behind them.

I’m about to call Reddit Cares on myself. I can’t take this anxiety.

Can’t wait for playoffs. Rangers in 5.

  7. I would love if the devils pass the canes and have to face the isles first round, and we can play the canes.

  8. Let the Devils have their Stanley Cup win tonight. They are good, but very beatable. Clean up the turnovers, a healthy Lindgren in over Harpur and we are fine. Rangers in 5 or 6 in Round 1 if this is the Devils at 100%.

The doomers in here legitimately make me lose my mind. We’re 8-1-1 in our last 10, got out skated in the first with a flukey goal and people are melting down. Get a grip.

Happy to say I’m less impressed with the devils than I was. They’re no Carolina, who is pretty savage until they run out of gas. I think we’ll be able to bully the shine off their apple in the series. We absolutely need to tone down the blue line nonsense, constant dump play behind the net, and chaotic east west passing in their zone trying to set up the perfect shot (this applies to a lot of other teams we’ve played) and just drive it through and get greasy.

As much as the Rangers didn’t dictate play as much as anyone would like, and certainly will need to generate more chances if they meet in the playoffs, the final score came down to the devils getting one deflection with Harper completely out of position, and vlad whiffing on a puck in the crease.

The rangers notoriously come out flat, particularly in games where as fans you’d expects some extra juice. Tonight was no exception. But I expect different cone playoff time.

This wasn’t enjoyable, but the sky is not falling

They played faster than us, had a good transition game, and Harpur blew it a couple of times (and I’m normally a supporter of his). We take a lump and come back tomorrow for the remainder of the season.

Come playoff time, we have to adjust to their speed, play more solid defense, put the hurt into them. Preferably by trucking them into the off-season.

in brighter news (for me I guess), I’ve decided I’m gonna do it and go see the rangers in columbus next weekend. I live in indiana currently, I haven’t seen the rangers irl since I was 6 at MSG in march 2001 where they lost I think 6-0? idk my main memory is a shutout but paired with a soft pretzel and nacho cheese. I figured a one game sample size of me being there isn’t enough to be a curse, and my apologies if it is, but I really want to see this team not on my TV and I’m excited!

  14. padds98

We were the better team in the second and third. I honestly came out of this game more confident in our chances in a 7 game series

  15. Smorgas-board

First period was terrible, they completely outplayed us there. Faster and moved with purpose. Next two periods were more even so it’s crazy to go all doomed on this game.

  16. Caroline0330

Was at the game. That sucked. They claim Ric Flair, who’s from TN. We’ll get em in the playoffs.

  17. guccikline

I’m not worried about it. I’m not worried about any of this. There’s worst shit on the local news!

  18. Key-Tip-7521

Opportunity to possibly get home ice was missed. I’ll start off the breakdown like this:

    1. 1st Period: VERY, VERY SLOPPY. Too many turnovers in the first and taking a sus penalty(looking at you key). Led to a Power Play goal. Neutral Zone turn overs plus way too many stretch passes.
    2. 2nd Period: Loved the response from the Rangers. Kreids got one off a deflection on the power play. Rangers were able to shut down the Devils.
    3. 3rd Period: Devils played shut down defense. Rangers wasted many chances especially in the final seconds. Whoever passed it to Bread for that shot, should have shot the puck.

From what I saw, if the Rangers can manage the Devils speed(which like what Hank said, is their « bread and butter ») by playing physical and spending more time in their (Devils) zone. I’m confident w/the Rangers beating them. What I also noticed, you know what team the Devils looked like in the 1st period? The >!Carolina Hurricanes.!< How? while their style is different, they(Canes and Devils) both tend to run out of gas after playing their style Canes(agressive forecheck), Devils(speed). I also liked the way Key played after taking the sus penalty. Dude played great tonight. So did Trocheck. IMO, he’s gonna be an X Factor come playoff time. However, if the Rangers can’t it’s gonna be a long series or possible quick one. Be careful what you wish for. If you want to play the Devils.

Overall, this was truly a playoff game. I know people were mad at the zebras but when a game like this is like a playoff game, sometime the zebras let the players play. Which I don’t mind tbh. UNLESS, it’s obvious. Disappointed yes. But I’m confident that the Rangers can beat the Devils in the Playoffs. IF that is IF the Rangers play them. As what I’ve said in the past, move on. And by moving on, onto Buffalo.

Oh before I forget, I did notice some good shifts here in there during the game. But whatever. Onto Buffalo and the Sabres.

  19. Fedbackster

Unlike how they looked lately, the Rangers played like shit. Came out like shit and gave up a goal for free, like a tip in drill in practice with no defense on the ice. And never made up for it. Our only goal was lucky. Absolutely no offense. Tonight the forwards acted like goals come for free, just for putting the jerseys on. A well deserved loss. Devils looked like the slumping team they are. Fiasco game, a waste of time to watch it.

  20. redpotatochip6

Devils sub is more concerned with the rangers rather than their own team as per usual

  21. falsenine9

Pros: we checked and I sensed it threw them; good finish; we were a coin flip play away from a second goal from Tarasenko; Igor

Cons: 5v5 game; Mikkola’s big game presence; generating shots; weak start

The Devils had way more to prove tonight than we did. On to Buffalo and we’ll have our opportunity for vengeance in ~2 weeks

  22. PhillyJ739

All of the people trying to “keep it real” aren’t even being realists. Going into the playoffs with any expectations of well, anything, is a recipe for disappointment.

In case you forgot, the playoffs and regular season are two very different animals. It’s unfair to say that we’ll lose to the Devils in 6 or that we’ll beat them in 5. Just fucking enjoy the ride. Some of you love being miserable for your own validation.

  23. Vaeltaja82

Just noticed that Canes lost also. There is still a possibility that we will face them in the first round.

I’m not even sure which one I would prefer at this point, both kinda make me nervous.
