*The Vancouver Canucks announced today that the Young Stars Classic rookie tournament will return to the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton, BC for each of the next two seasons in 2023 and 2024. The Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, and Winnipeg Jets, who all competed in the 2022 Young Stars Classic, are confirmed to return for the tournament for both years.*

    * »The Young Stars Classic is a key event for the Vancouver Canucks organization and one that we are extremely proud to be hosting again in Penticton for the next two years, » said Jim Rutherford, President, Hockey Operations. « The tournament provides a great opportunity for similar aged prospects to play and practice in a competitive environment, in front of thousands of fans. This is an important event on our hockey calendar and we, along with all the other teams participating, look forward to bringing another exciting tournament to the South Okanagan Events Centre. »*

*This year will mark the 10th edition of the Young Stars Classic, which began in 2010, and will feature prospects from the Canucks, Flames, Oilers, and Jets in a six-game round-robin format. Last year’s tournament included several players who would go on to play regular season NHL games in 2022.23, such as Vancouver’s Nils Åman and Arturs Silovs, Calgary’s Walker Duehr and Jakob Pelletier, Edmonton’s Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg, and Winnipeg’s Cole Perfetti.*

*The 2023 Young Stars Classic is expected to take place from September 15-18 and a complete schedule for the tournament is expected to be released soon. Ticket information will also be announced at a later date.*

I’m a little bit surprised the tournament is still going strong. During the years it was cancelled (from before the pandemic), believed the other teams weren’t happy that it took place in Penticton each year and were looking for to also host. Wonder what convinced them.

Great to hear. One of my fondest hockey memories was going to this tourny and sitting right behind Petey on the bench
