One of the most complete games of the season for the Lightning. Contributions from all 4 lines and all 3 D pairings, Pointer needs just two more goals to get 50, Kucherov continues to rack up the points, Jeannot gets his first as a Bolt, and Vasi continues to roll and puts the icing on the cake with his 4th shutout of the year. Terrific play as of late from the whole team.
Vasilevskiy has given up 1 goal in the last 3 games, so close to 3 consecutive shutouts. He’s been amazing, but the defense has also stepped up recently. The lightning out scored the hurricanes, capitals, and islanders 14-1. Lightning rounding into form before the playoffs. Unfortunately it’s almost impossible to get home ice over Toronto, but playing on the road hasn’t bothered the lightning during the playoffs the last 3 years. Point now 2 goals away from 50, but he’s also at 89 points. The odds are low, but with 5 games remaining, 11 more points is definitely possible. Possibly the Lightning’s best game of the season, the other one was the 5-0 win vs Colorado. Lightning have officially clinched a playoff spot. Let’s go bolts!
Anyone thinking the Bolts are vulnerable this spring might have their minds changed by this game. They beat a very good Islanders team with relative ease. They're ready to go for the playoffs.
