I do too, but I still think he has hockey to play so if somewhere else is better for him, I hope he gets that opportunity

It’s not like cutting bait after this year negates the 1,000 games he played with us, the time has just come for him at this point.

I’m ok with this as long as he announced he retirement today

There was a time during the first ECF run where I thought I would live to see Josh Bailey’s name on the Stanley cup as a New York Islander. I’m heartbroken to think that, outside of an improbable run this year, it ain’t happening

Me too.

I want to buy out his contract and then move him to player development with Johnny Boychuk and Dennis Seidenberg so he can be an islander for life

I hope the Islanders have a conversation with him about retiring after the year and making him a special assistant to Lambert, sort of like how Boychuck and Seidenberg now. They can pay him to make up for the 5 million he would lose retiring. He has young kids and has been on Long Island his whole adult life. That seems preferable than being shipped off to Arizona or Columbus in a salary dump to a team that isn’t contending that doesn’t want you anyway

Bailey is the quintessential scape goat during alot of last season when lets face it, him nor Eberle were getting us to the post season.
He was rushed, had some great moments, was loyal, but it’s time for him to go either retire or entertain trade considerations. He would actually fit in really well for the Coyotes for a season, or to Toronto if the Isles buy him out.

I see all the points here.
Note 1… Im a huuuge Bails fan. Always have been. Realize hes not so useful on this team though & that blows
Note 2 … You quite literally cant buy his level of leadership. He is elected the « A » each year. If we make a run, he will.be valuable no matter his role
Note 3 … yes buy him out or retire and stay as a coach and be an Islander forever
Mother fucker bleeds blue and orange. We dont treat that level of loyalty with a salary dump trade to a black hole team.

He might already be retired, and he just doesn’t know it yet…

He hasn’t been great this year but I’d give him a chance to bounce back I think. He’s not that old and the time he’s put in here has earned him another shot at this point I think

Me too….like at the end of this season though…
He’s going to be traded to Arizona for FC
That $5M is too important to waste on an AHLer
