    My quick analysis:

The Red Wings are taking a very long term approach. They figured they weren’t good enough yet to reach the elite of the NHL, so surprisingly, they traded established players for futures at the deadline. This will delay their rebuild even further. They are stockpiling picks in the hopes of becoming a juggernaut several years down the line. Time will tell. Seider is a stud.

The Sabres have started their rebuild wayyy earlier than the three other teams and it’s finally beginning to pay off for them. They have three second round picks this year too. Now that they signed Devon Levi, I think they will be a very strong team for years to come. It’s a bit unfair to compare them to the Habs because of how long they have been rebuilding, but they seem to be in a very good spot now.

The Sens took the opposite direction compared the the Wings by trying to accelerate their rebuild. The « Summer of Pierre » did not translate into playoffs this year though. The pressure is on to win in the next two seasons to take a full advantage of Claude Giroux. IMO, they’re in a weird spot, because I don’t see them as a legitimate Stanley Cup threat and they have no clear #1 goalie. Such is the pressure of the Canadian market I guess.

Tl;dr rebuilds take a lot of time and aren’t guaranteed (but y’all knew this already). Also, let’s not imitate the Sens please.

reminder that had there not been covid, habs would have missed the playoffs since 2017

we can pretend we’ve just started this up, but it’s not the case, and we still lack a lot of what is needed to be a contending team year after year

A top 5 pick in the next draft would probably be enough to cover our weak and not so promising top 6.
