I think the part that surprised fans was probably because Horvat was always so cautious with his words as a Canuck and also because he was the former captain. If JT Miller was traded and then blasted Vancouver, I don’t think anyone would be particularly surprised or shocked. But Horvat was someone who I think most fans really liked and wanted to see retire as a Canuck.
If you recall, the other players joked about Quinn always forgetting things, being disheveled and always mooching off his team mates who can cook, kind of a team joke. So when they asked him if he's detail oriented he said "not normally, that's not me"… But that doesn't mean he's not a voice in the room, and him having a high Hockey IQ means he also knows what the team is doing wrong. He'd make a better Capt than EP40. EP40 doesn't really want it, he's happy with the A and concentrating on his game, not talking to the media, but he knows that the A gives him some leadership authority and he can warm into a leadership role. JT is clearly the motivator and most passionate voice in the room. He's a great A, and probably would be a good C as he'd rise to the occasion, but Quinn is less volatile. You need all three to be leaders. You need someone to motivate, someone to observe and suggest, and someone who leads by example. They're all there, plus Demko
We love Miller
I can't believe people think he was talking to fans when obviously it was directed at management
