So you’re telling me there’s a chance he’s not a bust?
Who would’ve thought multiple illnesses and injuries early in the season could temporarily affect a young player 🙄
For those unaware who are like « it’s just the Swedish AHL », Allsvenskan isn’t just a « Swedish AHL » but a promotion/relegation league to the SHL. There’s a ton of legacy teams in these series. MoDo, home of Naslunds, Sedins, Forsberg, etc. Lekkerimaki’s team Djurgarden, home of Sundin and countless others, plus is the winningest team in SHL history. AIK and Sodertalje are 6th and 7th in most SHL cups. Bjorkloven has held the SHL cup. Vasteras, home of Lidstrom, used to be a regular SHL team…
So this a competitive league with some of the biggest talent pools in Sweden basically playing for the survival of the club. Djurgarden normally plays in the Stockholm Globe Arena with 14000 seats, etc. It’s basically like if you tossed some of NHL’s legacy teams in the AHL and had them claw their way back up to the NHL with their home grown talent.
In other words, performing at this level as an 18 year old is kind of massive. Much more impressive than performing in the Allsvenskan regular games and arguably more impressive than performing in the SHL regular games.
Also, he’s not just scoring, he’s earning those assists:
