Sad to see Barry gone, woulda been nice to see any other D traded instead
They gave up a a rushing defenseman for a stay at home player which they're have in my opinion way too many. And Nurse?all season he been a up and down player, his play this season have been a roller-coaster, especially on defense. And while Barrie is no Cale Malkar, he gave them what they lacked, speed on defense. Now the Oilers have another slow defenseman that's going to get burned by Nathan Mackinnon. Sure McDavid and Draisaitl are soooooo happy about that. I'm thinking maybe should have gone after the only Swedish player that matters ,he a defenseman too. And his current Gm is a former oilers player too!he would be McDavid Paul Coffy. So another first or second round knock out, then Then McDavid leaves?
Almost every contract on the Oilers is a bad one, so no Ekholm is not enough. Holland is just so bad at contract talks. He bridged Nurse just to corner himself into overpaying on a career year. The Kane addition was fine before he signed him long term… Ceci, Foegele, Yamamoto, Pulju, Kane are all overpaid. Hyman and RNH contracts are not that great either because of the duration. Like it'd be fine if the rest of the depth was great, but it's not… Also signed Kassian long term just to have to pay assets to dump him. Holland was just not the man for EDM.
Biggest hit to the team with Barrie being moved is the locker room. He was well liked with the team, made lots of friends.
But this trade made the Oilers better defensively no doubt and that's what they needed. Another thing about Barrie moving is it gives more TOI for our younger guys. Maybe we'll see big improvements with them come playoffs.

Elkhom is an all around defense man, I think is a great addition.

A big trade happens and all of a sudden other teams make moves that seem like, a trade for the sake of making a trade, it's like a domino effect, their playing chess with people.

Ya this deal aint going to turn the needle at all….if all this team was lacking was a big shutdown defender we should of paid a first rounder to keep adam larsson during the expansion draft but we let him walk for nothing. This is an overpayment on a beyond laughable scale and whoever actually thinks ekholm was the final piece this team needed for a deep playoff run is straight up just another ignorant echo chamber of a fan.
It's amazing how Toronto media always SENSES MORE about McDavid. They have extra-terrestrial, superhuman powers, senses that the rest of us do not possess when it comes to reading McDavid. It started with the supposed negative reaction from McDavid after the Oil won the draft lottery to this day. GET OVER IT GUYS, HE IS NOT A LEAF and MOST LIKELY WILL NEVER BE ONE. QUIT WHINING ABOUT IT AND QUIT READING THINGS INTO EVERY TIME THE GUY SMIRKS!!! Best to concentrate in winning a round in the playoffs before Mathews an American heads off to an American city.

Last year before the Playoffs I chatted with Craig Mactavish by fluke…I warned him Goalie deployment would make or break the Cup run and that Mikko was the real Backbone and had to be relied upon that way right to the bitter end if they wanted to win the Cup and I told him without a Standup defense there was no way they would win a Cup in todays NHL.Craig was so high on Edmontons defense and its immediate future that he basically chuckled at any worries going into the Playoffs….he was EXTREMELY high on the Oilers defense for years to come….which sounds like Lowe talking to you guys…and thats a problem because the Aves did not Sweep us in 4 straight because we did not have Ekholm and Kostin and Campbell and the rest of todays dogs…..we were clearly and cleanly OUTCOACHED>…. and by again over-focusing on shoring up the so-called suspect defense as if all will suddenly be well we could be missing the Elephant in the Room …what if its the Coaching that needs shoring up because what if Woody decides to play Soupy when he should play Skinny like he played Smith when he should have Played Mikko….certain Goalies fit better against certain Opponents Systems…its that simple….we need to get it right this time because IMHO last year we were lucky to get as far as we did before we were slammed because of poor asset management for whatever reasons..
Cambell did ok for the leafs but much like Anderson who came before him couldnt seem to win game 6 or 7.

Those Alberta Emergency Alerts were nuts yesterday. There were 7 within 25 minutes. They were all test alerts too lol it was rediculous.
