The Islanders have a habit of doing things the hard way but came through in the end with a key victory in game 82.
Gil, the much improved passing is what impressed me! Uncharacteristic for the Islanders! Still lacking but much improved. It has to make you wonder who’s responsible for that? The coaching? Where’ve they been before? BO? 👍I’ve noticed Fasching is a really good passer, too! What kind of look is this team going to have with Barzal and Romy back? Give me the Canes!!! Nelson has 2-3 more SOLID years I feel!
It wasn't easy and should have never come down to game 82 but isles are finally in. Now they get canes unless fla. gets a win or bettman loser pt. vs. canes thurs. night. Then isles get b's who will have all the pressure in the world on them coming off of their record breaking season. Last team to set a record-''95-'96 wings who set the win mark-lost in west final to av's because they were too soft.
And with pens melt down this is the season age finally caught up to pens and caps. Which opened up that spot for isles. Now the problem is lou will kid himself once again thinking that this roster is good enough to compete and keep it together for another season. And just like nj broke thru this season sabres who are close, wings, and sens are all young and up and coming right behind isles in east. And means lane remains coach.
And funny reading pens fans whine today about their melt down screaming for hextall to be fired when it was gmjr trading away eight years worth of firsts and seconds for a few more kicks at the can that doomed pens. Hextall had no choice but to resign the old guys and just add more old guys to their roster as pens couldn't upgrade in goal or their d with nothing to deal with. Its always a good day when pens lose. Even double pleasure when it knocks pens out of the playoffs at the same time. No more longest n. america pro sports playoff streak for pens even with their delusional fans thinking bubble play in loss counted. hahahaha too funny.
btw isles 243 gf is the fewest gf of all east playoff teams. Only wild 243 and jets 246 both with one game left are in the 2.7 gf range of all playoff teams. Oil lead nhl with 320 gf and a pp clicking at 30%.
Glad the NY Isles made the playoffs this year, but IMHO the following players should not be on this team next season

We did it. Was a bit nailbiting until the 4th goal, even though we dominated. Have to give our thanks to Chicago for beating Penguins. We need Barzal now, even though we managed without him.

With pens out and tanking their only option now and isles due for the fall by then who has the best shot at exceptional player m. misa in the '25 draft Isles or pens?
The minor league defenseman who's filling in for the russian should never ever play another minute of professional hockey again. Just awful. That second period is a slice of the awful hockey i've had to watch this entire year. I don't remember an islander team this bad making the playoffs.
Fasching goal was an important goal and point in the game (timing). All the credit to Parise on the forecheck and Pageau for reading the play on the rim around the boards. These three work well together.
If Florida wins in OT or SO (and NJ wins), then Florida would play Devils.
If Florida wins in OT or SO and NJ loses (regulation, OT or SO), then the Panthers play the Canes.
If Panthers win in regulation and NJ gets one point in their game, then Panthers play Devils.
Seeing as Canes are injured, the ideal outcome for the Panthers is to win in OT and have NJ lose in regulation, OT or SO.
Yes, the only options for the Islanders are vs. Boston or vs. Canes.
Either way it will be a tough series for the Islanders to win, but having Romanov and Barzal back would be helpful…even if Barzal is only back for the PP and limited shifts. He'll produce more and give the team more of a boost by being on the bench than having the player they take out of the line-up (10 or 12).
Once again Dobson gives up the puck which immediately leads to a goal ! I wonder how many assists Dobson and Aho would have if they counted their turnover which lead to opponents goals ! Bailey was a zero once again, the guy won’t even check someone, half of the isles problems stem from them not checking anyone, they hit the brakes and give love taps and winning teams don’t do that !
Just flipped my sheet, ESPN’s Phil Murphy just did the “top plays” of the day for Wednesday and spewed out that the # 3 play of the day was Suzuki’s goal against the isles and proceeded to show the highlight.
Considering Faschings dogged play, work ethic, production and low cost, he's probably Lous best signing as Isles GM. He has earned a 3 or 4 year deal, IMO. 2-3 mil per would be a reasonable gamble.
Bolduc earned the goat of the game. The guy is 220. No way Suzuki should be able to do a one hand lift on his stick.
