This makes it sound like it’s not related to his health, as he would go play somewhere else. That’s pretty low for the organization, and while he may not be as good as he once was there should always have been a place for Toews in the lineup as a Hawk.
As a rebuilding franchise, you still need veteran players to teach the young kids how to play. Kane and Toews should have both been lifelong Hawks, and this is disrespectful to both them and the fans.
I’m crying and throwing up.
The writing was on the wall with this one but it still stings to see it formally announced. Glad I already picked up tickets to this game in anticipation…I can only imagine prices are gonna jump up.
My Toews jersey is literally falling apart but I’m gonna wear it one final time for him tonight. My favorite player from the start of my time as a fan….it hurts.

I find myself agreeing with the people saying that it sounds a lot like the organisation decided not to re-sign him, instead of Toews saying he doesn’t want to stay.
Kind of leaves a bitter taste imo. Would be different if it were a health decision.
Edit: Just read that Davidson didn’t offer Kane or Toews another contract. Wow. I’ve been pretty happy with him so far but this I don’t understand (even if it’s just my heart).

I don’t understand why they wouldn’t sign him if he wants to keep playing. Just having a guy like him in the lockerroom helps young players develop. Makes no sense

I still think he’s probably going to hang them up for his health’s sake. Maybe he tests the waters to see if anyone will pick him up, but I do think this is probably it completely, to which i say sign him to a one day deal for a retirement ceremony

The hawks and toews are my favorite that being said I work at PPG paints in Pittsburgh walked pass the whole team the other day coming in for the game he was at the end of the line I could muster the courage to say anything to him or ask for a quick picture still kicking myself and forever will

This is the absolute right decision. Tough but correct. We have to move forward with the tear down and rebuild and cannot do so until we say goodbye to our last Championship player. Really liking Kyle. You will never be a great GM if you do not have the ability to be completely dispassionate and focus solely on what is best for the team.

Toews I grew up with you as my favourite player, and even though I live on the other side of the world you have brought me so many AMAZING memories that I will cheerish forever! You have made some random Slovenian kid a lifelong Blackhawks fan. Thank you for everything you have done and best of luck (+ a lot of health) in your future wherever you end up. Hopefully someday we will see you again with the franchise in a different role perhaps. If not, we will see you for your jersey retirement! o7
