Colorado Avalanche Instagram looks like it’s showing the Landy press conference.
For those who can’t watch – Landy says it started with the cut in the bubble.
Landy thought he’d be fine to go after last summer, but things got worse.
They’ve explored every option at this point and he thought he’d be able to play second half of season and playoffs, but hasn’t worked out.
Landy – « It very well could linger into next year »
Moving forward, they will continue to explore options. Landy feels this is the desicion he had to make at this point.
Landy confident they’ll come out on the other end, but haven’t gotten lucky so far.
Landy – playoffs was the goal, but timelines kept getting pushed back. Consumed by rehab and chronic pain affects you more than just physically. Last few weeks have been rough, but this is why he wanted to speak for teammates sake so they don’t have to answer questions and speculate.
Landy says there’s never been a moment where he’s regretted anything about last year’s playoffs. « I would do anything to help this team win ».
Regarding the decision – it’s been an ongoing decision for a while. He was expecting to return until about two weeks ago where he started plateauing in his recovery.
Regarding what the offseason will look like – Landy has gotten off the ice for now. Progression constantly being evaluated in public eye, but makes it hard. Moving forward – « I’m not entirely sure to be honest with you ». Another surgery may be an option.
Landy says his message to the guys will be there and support them, and says the leadership group is strong even without him.
Landy – « Will I be able to play again? Yeah. » He doesn’t know when but one step at a time.
On setbacks and progress – He says there haven’t been significant setbacks, and was confident he would play this season before the 2nd surgery. Thinks he personally underestimated the injury itself.
Landy will be around the team as much as he can in regards to traveling during playoffs, but it is also up to rehab requirements.
Playoffs last year – « Playoffs is a different animal and everyone is dealing with stuff. » « We’re all going through something, I just happened to be dealing with an injury that allowed me to play games but not more than that. I don’t regret anything. »
« I’ll be around as much as the guys want me »
« I might just need to get up to speed on their superstitions as they go ».
Landy says it’s a cartilage injury. When it comes to skating, it’s a « different beast »
On option of additional surgery: Still trying to get more information from different doctors on what next step would be and what a procedure would entail. Haven’t gotten to the point yet where he would know exactly hat that would mean.

It sounded to me like the odds aren’t good for Landy next year… cartilage injuries don’t heal themselves so it doesnt sound like time is the issue
Landeskog played through a lingering knee issue since the 2020 bubble and helped lead the team to the Stanley Cup victory. Hats off I think he will be back and so does he, if he isn’t then it was a hell of a run for him.
I am very concerned about his long term prognosis. There’s no good way to repair or replace damaged cartilage. I feel terrible for him.
I don’t wanna be negative but I was kinda sad that Landy didn’t sound too enthusiastic in supporting/traveling with the team… anyone else get that vibe? 🙁
