As a Flyers fan, I had joked upon his hiring that Hextall was a plant sent to Pittsburgh to destroy the team from the inside. And now, they've missed the playoffs for the first time in 17 years. Mission Accomplished.

pittsburgh are so old if they signed chris chelios their average age would go down significantly
Nice to see The Pens get what was coming to them.
Nice job Hexxy
The most baffling thing Hextall did as GM is the Granlund trade. Hextall cleared millions in cap space to acquire Granlund, and Granlund is 3 feet tall, isn't a goal scorer, isn't fast, and counts for 5 million against the cap for 2 more years. He was literally the last thing the Penguins needed. Like, on what planet was that trade a good idea.
Which is why I want to see a non-tanking team win the draft lottery. I somewhat understand Columbus, but Anaheim seems to be in tank mode by management decision from day 1.
Hey had too many Mario goals against him. Great infiltration of the pens , mission accomplished. Not a fan of pens or Philly. And burke also was in this too lol icing on the cake.
Also another great nugget to have Dubis, come into Pitt after all this lol is great . Great idea! Maybe the next pens goslie combo will be combined age of 80 yrs old as well. Just awesome.
Why did FSG even buy the Penguins ? Buying a team with an aging core that clearly needs a full rebuild within the near future is just not smart
Crosby, Malkin, and Letang are signed for a combined $20.9 million. Crosby and Malkin played every game. Crosby and Malkin will still both 1+ point a game players. To have all that happen, and fail to get any worthwhile supporting players… it's a level of ineptitude that barely seems possible.
Hextall did such an awful job. If he ever gets another shot as an NHL GM, I feel sorry for whatever fan base has to endure that.
Kinda similar with the Brady factor.
Ever since they got rid of Flower they've been cursed.
Brian Burke has destroyed every team he’s been apart of!
If it was Hextall that stopped the Miller trade, he deserved to be fired, Miller, the way he was playing, would have ensured the Penguins made the playoffs, for this year and next at least.
Sorry guys, but the mystique was gone when they got swept by the New York islanders. This is why you don’t trade away draft picks in a cap league because you need to be able to fill out your bottom six with young guys who could possibly turn into even better players than bottom six forwards. The Boston Bruins had the same core for years, but they kept drafting guys and signing college free agents and making sure they kept their prospect pool large enough to hit on their development. The Penguins never did that and it’s biting them in the behind now.
