    Hey Ducks fans,

Since it’s basically the off-season now, I wanted to show you this cool e-mail I got back in 2015. I’m a Belgian (Europe) hockey fan and started following the NHL back in December 2014. Since I obviously didn’t have a home team to follow, I decided I’d send an e-mail to all the teams and ask their media team on why I should become a fan of their team. I got 3 out of 30 replies, one from the Toronto Maple Leafs, one from the Arizona Coyotes and one from the Anaheim Ducks!

So back then it was settled that I’d follow one of these three teams going further. I ultimately decided on the Anaheim Ducks back then because I liked the logo (both the ‘duck foot’ and the old mask logo), as well as the fact that I obviously recognised the old mask with crossed sticks from when I was a kid. I’m a 90s kid and grew up with Disney and even though I’ve never seen the Mighty Ducks movies, I still recognised the mask from other Disney cartoons. Thought that was really cool. I loved watching Kesler, Perry and Getzlaf in 2015 and the Teemu Selanne banner-raising video they added also left me a long lasting memory, which was really cool! So that’s why I became a fan of the Anaheim Ducks, without having any ties to the city of Anaheim. I would love to visit the area though one day!

*Do any of you non-local fans have a cool story on why you became a Ducks fan*?

Also, as a Belgian I have a very hard time purchasing any cool Anaheim Ducks items/memorabilia. I own a Ducks snapback I’ve been wearing A LOT and own a t-shirt, but I don’t have any options on non-wearable Ducks memorabilia. *I would be very interested if any of you got some cool stuff you don’t mind parting with – I can obviously pay for both the items and shipping costs overseas!* Think Ducks stickers, a puck, a(n) (old) entree ticket for a Ducks game, a playoff towel, … I don’t really care, I just want to get a few cool items for my Ducks-inspired home gym I’m building!

Also, let’s fucking go and get the first overall pick!

I find it really cool that you received an actual response from the Anaheim Ducks.

I’m in a similar situation to you, but living in South Africa, where ice hockey is an extremely niche sport.

The Anaheim Ducks is basically the first NHL hockey team that I learned about, and also being a child of the 1990’s, it was the natural choice for me when I started following the NHL seriously in 2021.

It’s been a humbling experience learning about ice hockey and the NHL in general. I grew up a fan of football (Newcastle United), F1 (Williams F1) and cricket, and I would consider myself as being quite knowledgeable about these sports.

When it comes to ice hockey and the NHL, I’m still newbie and it’s a bit overwhelming at times. When I get some down time in the future, hopefully after finishing university, I’d really like to deep dive into ice hockey and the NHL to learn about all details and intricacies surrounding the sport, especially tactics and everything related to the salary cap etc.

I have a Fanatics 25th Anniversary Anaheim Ducks jersey that my younger brother bought me while he was working in New York City for a few months in 2019.

From what I’ve read online, Fanatics isn’t the greatest quality-wise, but I absolutely treasure my jersey and wear it as often as I can to university during the short winters here in South Africa.

I would love to have the opportunity to purchase just a few Anaheim Ducks hats, but the shipping alone makes it extremely expensive.

Adam Brady is awesome. I live on the east coast and during our 2015 run, I e-mailed the Ducks looking to purchase a playoff towel since they weren’t available for purchase online. A few days later, I received one in the email for free.

This is very cool. As a fan from Europe this is an interesting story. All the best!
