Basketball kinda sucks so I don’t care what they do
Dr_Psycho_809
The NHL doesn’t rest players like the NBA does. Most of the time the stars are on the ice. Usually after a bad hit yeah they miss games. But take into account a 200 pound person ramming into you around 15 mph , vs taking a bump / push from a dribbling player. Protocol and resting are different. Also nhl just uses less minutes not whole games

If they start charging for load management, your mom is in trouble.
HoopOnPoop
What the Mavericks did wasn’t load management. They tanked on purpose and admitted it.
No-Sail7990
The nhl doesn’t really do load management the way nba teams do or at least as frequently. Kawhi for instance in his season with the raptors would only play so many games per week and would also never play a back to back. Nhl teams generally only rest a few stars or veterans intermittently during the last week or two of the season and most of them get a game or maybe two to rest.

I don’t think NHL teams « load manage » their players. NBA is garbage anyway. Who cares? Hockey is king!
Bouldergeuse
Nhl exists for entertainment. From the NHLs point of view their customers should be receiving the highest quality product available. From a customer standpoint I want to be entertained every game I take the time to watch – watching the Oilers is a lot less exciting eithout McDavid.
I think fans often forget that hockey is for entertainment. We are not receiving the cup in our house and not getting paid for it.

No, it’s called good coaching! As a fan, I’d rather see them rest star players and have them rested for the playoffs.
OlTommyBombadil
Dallas was fined for blatantly tanking. They actively sat players when they needed to win to make the play-in. And then the coach admitted it in an interview. A little more complicated than finding them for load management
FormerCollegeDJ
Due to the nature of the game, where a high number of active players play a solid number of minutes per game, it is hard for NHL teams to consciously tank like NBA teams are able to do.
RynotheRam
It wasn’t load management they tanked a game so they could guarantee they didn’t lose their first round pick
starwestsky
No. Risk of injury is crazy high in the NHL with hits and fights being part of the game. What’s the actual difference in a locked up division winner resting players versus a basement team resting players. Give AHLers and College signings get some ice time.

Oh look, this player has a undisclosed upper body injury now, I don’t think he will play next game
Mandalorian3-3-3
Shouldn’t be fined for resting players lol
FatStupidOldMan
The NHL is very physical, dangerous league.
Load management is a part strategy and is completely valid.
JWilesParker
Honestly, I see nothing wrong with resting guys on occasion once a team has clinched a playoff spot. Last thing any team wants is their best players missing playoff time due to something stupid and avoidable.
Several-Eagle4141
Fine my wife for improper load management.
yvr-wine
They could stop this by making the last place or two last place teams pick 10th and 11th overall.
HanSolo5643
This was more than simple load management. Dallas openly and proudly admitted to tanking and losing on purpose.
tuepm
this wasn’t load management. the mavs sat their players so they would miss the playoffs and retain their draft pick.
moose_king88
What the Mavs did was not load management though it was just blatant tank. They declared it as much
Zeediddy2883
That’s NOTHING. They’re keeping their first round pick
absentfacejack
Aside from the gut reaction that this is trash, wasn’t this sort of a complicated business decision? I think they someone a 1st round pick and Cuban knew what the the numbers were and chose to take the hit and the heat instead of making the playoffs and kicking the can down the road draft wise. Business men gonna business
TheIceman0019
You’re paid to play a game. Trot them out there every single minute of every game. That’s why they get paid millions
BrandNewSin
The NBA player’s body doesn’t take nearly the punishment a NHL player’s body takes. It is rare that a star NHL player is a healthy scratch.
JerbearCuddles
The NHL is different. They don’t really load manage. Teams just ice AHL rosters on purpose by trading anyone of value.
