First, the Pens lost at home to Chicago, and the Pens also resigned Rakell, who had a great year, and Rust who scored 20 goals. Yes, Granlund was Chris Prior"s blunder, but let's not say dumb things…
Burke should have been fired earlier.
Home loss to chi tankhawks hurt alot for the pens. Lack of good goalies past few yrs has also hurt pens. Time to save ovi from wash, bring in capt serious and a supporting cast including possibly Carter hart. Not a pens fan but some re tooling needs to happen. Maybe Crosby and malkin feeding gr8 would help him beat Wayne's record.
The most baffling thing Hextall did as GM is the Granlund trade. Hextall cleared millions in cap space to acquire Granlund, and Granlund is 3 feet tall, isn't a goal scorer, isn't fast, and counts for 5 million against the cap for 2 more years. He was literally the last thing the Penguins needed. Like, on what planet was that trade a good idea.
Burk has been a mess for years. A team with senior citizens, time to rebuild.
Burke is just an angry old sourpuss
Jared McCann, Brandon Tanev, John Marino. These three could have been a huge difference for the Pens. We got nothing for them.
What organization will hire the loser Hextall next?
Goaltending is poor otherwise this team makes the playoffs easily.

I was shocked when they hired hextall and to a lesser extent burke. Hetall did NOTHING in phili as their gm , he actually set them back. And burke was a has been.The hiring of those two was truly baffling

For a fiery ex-goalie, Ron Hextall has been a snooze of a GM in Philly and in Steeltown. His roster build processes were tortoise slow and ineffective.
As for Burkie, it won’t be long until he’s back at Hockey Night In Canada.
The beauty of this whole situation is that the wild picked up Billy G from the pens. He's made a lot of great moves for the cap strapped wild
No shock on this one, long time coming. Would have happened even if they made the playoffs. Hextall has a proven track record of being a lawsy GM, and Burke hit his peak 15 years ago. Going to be tough fixing the mess they left behind, Trouble is, if Pens want guys like JT Miller or Gibson from the Ducks, they're again trading out 1st round picks. Crosby won't allow a rebuild, so they'll just spin their wheels in the mud for awhile.
Brian Burke is way more concerned about turning everything about gay pride then hockey. He needs to be President of the LGBTQ, not a hockey team

Yeah the Pittsburgh Penguins can still compete for a Stanley Cup with Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang, they have retool the bottom 6 and abit on of the defense but the big issue is in net, and the Penguins got to get a new starting goalie and backup.
I mean, sometimes hiring the star as manager works out, and sometimes it doesn’t. Detroit is slowly coming out of its dumpster fire under Yzerman, but it will take another year or two before they are competitive. And Luke Robitaille brought the first two Stanley cups to the LA Kings managing them.
Burke already has his tie undone and sipping his Bud Light laughing how he managed to fool another NHL for as long as he did.
I'm not shocked since during a lopsided game vs Edmonton the fans chanted "Fire Hextall." Makes me wonder how many moves Burke rejected, but Sullivan wanted them to approve.

Hextall and Burke are the equivalent to Burt and Ernie.
Sooooo many bad deals letting Tanev and McCann go and protecting Carter and Blueger. Then trading Marino for Ty Smith. Then adding Petry so many bad moves. I still believe they could bounce back if they let Carter, Dumo and Petry go. Then try to get younger the top 6 is still excellent. They just need more speed and grit. Not Big Slow guys. Heckstall and Burke wanted size and sully wanted speed I figured it was never gunna work.
I believe Pittsburg lost to Chicago in Pittsburg. They lost at home which is considerably worse to be essentially eliminated in front of their owns fans and in the arena they know better than anyone. Good video though. CMN.
Hextall saw the higher ranked NYR acquire tarasenko and Kane and responded with granlund and bonino…. Wasted a solid season from the core 3 and top 6.
