I was proud of the boys tonight! Ryan’s hit got me excited and that energy was fairly consistent. Enjoyed the effort. If they are going to lose this series, at least let the Canes limp bruised into the second. Round! The penalty calls were pissing me off! This is damn playoffs refs. Hopefully they got that out of their system that first game! My other criticism is on Horvat still not finding the back of the net. Lee also! Oh and Barzel wiffing an open net (but 1st game back, he gets a pass) What Bo does contribute , I appreciate! But he is paid to score and we need him to score.
Lambert has to go!! the fact he made no adjustments with the PP and continues to have Dobson out there instead of trying Pulock who has one of the hardest slap shots in hockey is a complete joke, plus he has been their best defenseman in the playoffs for years now but doesn’t have him in late…smfh
Even in a low scoring game in what should be a low scoring series low scoring isles come up short. And isle pp no match for canes pk. Oh well we'll see if the madness behind lou's method of putting this roster together solely to succeed in playoffs comes to the forefront next two games. Or are isles looking at a quick first round whiff where their lack of scorers bites isles in the ass again and showing lou what every fan already knows-GET A FKN SCORER/GAMEBREAKER.
Come on Gil barzy was out there skating on one leg, He’s nowhere near 100%. Mayfield and Pelech looked horrible. Plus Skarek has played well for the last couple of months at Bridgeport. It’s been years and this team can’t score. Obviously we don’t have enough top end talent. Without pulocks gift goal we would of been shutout. That’s 2 wins in the last 15 games versus Carolina and u think we’re winning this series?
It was a penalty Four Eyes! Get you prescription checked Soy Boy. I suppose you missed the Obvious High Stick during the last Islander PP in the third period??? I was at the game and you could see that high stick from top row of the third level.
When did stick lifts become penalties? Moving on Gil im not disappointed with my islanders any home game in the NHL PLAYOFFS is not an easy task. I cant lie i was disappointed with your Carolina in 7 predictions? because if any game is going 7 im going with my team. That means its anybodys series. Ide rather say you believe it will be a home series than carolina in 7 but thats just me. Yes i think we can steal won like you mentioned tonight and that will be islanders in 7! An excellent postgame podcast; the best I’ve heard in a long time & you’re 100% correct in my opinion. I am a big Lane Lambert supporter, I really am. However, I think he may have been outcoached? I don’t know? 🤷♀️ I’m just so frustrated that we left Aho wide-open. It’s just boggles the mind..!
Gil, great show as always. Refs were garbage last night but the Isles offense and especially the pp were WORSE than garbage. Isles need to get the split. The loss of Romanov is big. Barzal was at 50 percent his normal self. All that being said, they lost 2-1. One shot away from tying. Have faith. Win game 2. GO ISLES!

Blown coverage led to both goals. Aho had so much ice all to himself he got lonely before scoring. THAT CAN'T HAPPEN!
What battle are you talking about on the Noesen goal? I didn't see ANY battle from our defenders. He's net front and standing between 2 defenders, and neither ties up his stick or tries to clear him out. At the very least Mayfield should have crowded Noesen and restricted his stick movements. Instead, he's staring at some dude over by the wall. This is exactly what I was talking about pre-game. The defender needs to harass the net front guys. Get your stick over his, get your body up against his and restrict his movements, bump him around….get to work! That was a practice deflection by Noesen. WTF?
The officiating was pretty bad at times. The rule is an official has to SEE the infraction, but the call on Pulock was IMAGINED. The ref thought that was a sure goal. When it didn't go in, the shooter posed to draw the penalty, and it decided the game. Meanwhile, the ref had a clear view of Nelson getting slashed and shrugs it off. WTF?
Lane got away without another early call for the goalie to come to the bench. The Isles barely crossed the blue line and were still in a puck battle when Sorokin was out of the net. EVERY other coach knows you let your guys establish themselves in the O-zone before you sit the goalie. Having him come halfway before O-zone possession is established is risky enough, but what Lane is doing is insane.
Sorokin can only do so many handstands in the net. The bottom line is if you don't take advantage of your opportunities in the playoffs its an automatic quick exit!!!

The 2nd PP the Canes got that led to a goal was a horrible call by the Refs…there was NO slash at all…REFS should stop with all the bullshit
PENS, ISLES and FLA are all bad teams, 2 of the 3 got in and now they will have to pay for it with quick exits.
Mayfield is terrible..he literally can’t make a break out pass and he continues to just give the puck up or ice it

This game was a good watch with tough result. This game encapsulated much of what I thought and commented on during the regular season. Their 5 on 5 play shows they can probably play with anyone. However, I disagree with some of your PP assessment. Their PP style is far to stationary. They make little to no effort in getting the defense to have to move much at all. No cycling or real movement of puck or players. Their spacing is often collapsed causing poor short passes and turn overs. I am really frustrated they are not taking a risk and seriously changing it up. The PK let us down. Defense break downs which have actually been fairly regular of late even in winning games. We still can't score on a break aways. Never the less, we kept t close. We have a real chance in this series. Great show GIl.
Aho IcEd the Puck way too many times, dump and chase isn’t going to cut every time. It would be refreshing for someone to actually carry the Puck in.
Good effort. They took the body. PP is still terrible. I don't see many goals scored on either side in this one. They need to steal one on the road.
Barzy was understandably hesitant. Think he will get more comfortable and active. Aho and his D partner scare you in their own zone. Think the PK got it together and that won’t be a factor in the rest of the series. You take away those PPG and you win 1-0 on a soft goal. Goring made a good point, how loose do the Canes hold their sticks? Is that intentional to draw calls? Gamesmanship? Hope Romanoff comes back. Think Isles
Can win at least one road game. Also cover that “give and go” much better. Not sure if Canes can play better, know the Isles can play much better. Burns has a quick shot always on the net. Their goalie looks vulnerable and heard Anderson was bad last week so that may still be the difference.
