Aho for the islanders is horrible. I don't know what they see in him. Sorokin let in some bad angle goals tho
Do I feel bad for the Canes with Teuvo? Of course! He's an amazing player, and that must sting (literally). However, that does NOT justify a CLEAR non-call on the Canes to get the OT winner. How about a fair game for both sides? I wouldv'e taken ANOTHER 4 minutes penalty for the slash if it meant a fair game, BECAUSE THAT'S HOW ITS SUPPOSED TO WORK. ITS NOT JUST THE ISLES AND CANES! HAS ANYBODY SEEN THE LEAFS AND LIGHTNING SERIES FROM LAST SEASON. NHL OFFICIATING IS A JOKE!
Not gonna sit here and argue the Islanders played a clean game, but it's ridiculous how many missed calls Carolina got away with. I'm a little disappointed there wasn't much mention of it in the review. This really felt like a game played more by the refs than the players
Islanders got called for two double minors high stick during the game. OT comes Mayfield gets high sticked the ref was like what’s that?
If you read the New York Post they show that Mayfield actually made Martinooks stick go up and be high stick lol. tried to cheat and the ref totally saw it.
This was a really close game, both teams played well. The frustrating thing is, in a game thats this close. One team getting 6 PPs and the other getting none was the difference.
I understand why the refs didnt call Martinook, it was overtime, they weren't going to call anything. They don't want to influence the game but they already had.
But lets be honest, the Islanders could have had 10 PPs in this game
They would not have scored on any of them.
Due to ugliness in this game. Suspend 1-2 games for hand slash when injuries occur.
I'm surprised Martin's interference penalty on Staal wasn't/isn't being discussed more. I'm no ref, however, that was a game misconduct borderline suspension hit. Incredibly dangerous and irresponsible. A lesser man than Staal would likely have not returned.
The scare was that d bag trying to paralyze Jordan staal
The “Martin play?” What “play?” He tried to give staal a spinal injury. That’s not a “play.”
I think you woke up the cat. Shame for Tervainen to get his hand broken.
Carolina is controlling the play but having trouble scoring. It is the story of their season.
Nothing will happen to the slasher.
I'm not expecting the Canes, if they win this series, to get past round 2. They essentially have lost an entire top line to injury with Patches, Svech, and now Teuvo out. An already struggling offense takes another hit. Granted Turbo hasn't been producing much this year, he's still a part of the top 6.
Shame to… we had a really good chance to go all the way this year. Regardless though, to win the division and hold off a fellow PO team the way they have despite the problems is amazing.
the officiating of this game was horrible. as canes fan, we definitely got away with a few, and the islanders did too.
12 hours later, and I’m still pissed
Islanders know their only hope is to cheap shot all the Canes players. And it's kind of starting to work.
Refs gave away the game when they let the high stick go in OT, if they want us out, they will can make us via 7 penalties. really really stupid powerplays awarded to Carolina and it was obvious, as a HOCKEY fan no one should want that to happen to any team
The refs stole this game and everyone knows it. Hurricanes won’t win another game this series… it’s despicable and the nhl should be ashamed of themselves
How you’re not calling out the refs for clear favoritism is beyond me… stop simping when it’s so frickin obvious
Losing Turbo soured what was otherwise an outstanding night. I hope this team can find a way to overcome. Go Canes!
missed too many men called and a high stick that led to the loss.. who cares about what the coach thinks
Islander fans and NY radio has the nerve to complain about the officiating. Saying the officials decided the game. I don't see it. The Islanders played dirty. Martin should get a game for that cross check. No call on a slash that broke a guys hand. What game where they watching on Long Island???????
Carolina is the only team who kept home ice adv after game 2 and it was controversial.
nothing beats the NHL first round for the unexpected. even the refs didn't see it coming.
A lot of folks forget that Slavin was one of the best shootout guys on the team for a while. He's got some silky mits.
Canes need to bang more.
Loving seeing Horvat continue to shit the bed in NY. By the end of next year, that city will be running him out of town. Book it, he won't hit 25 goals next year once his 8.5 mil ticket kicks in. Guy will be a .50 point per game player.
He refs handed Carolina this one
Oh no Islanders can't score any goals so they gotta do dumb stuff like slashing people's hands, etc, etc, etc, etc.
Damn, NYI fan here, but sorry to hear about Teravainen. Broken hand + surgery is a long recovery back to full recovery. I know from experience.
Martin's play was a clear attempt to injure Stahl. Really dirty play. Where is Player Safety?
Refs did all they could for the Canes on this one. Isles outplayed for sure, Canes were lucky to score the Overtime goal on a missed call. I don't think it will be easy for the Canes if the isles take both at home, but if the Canes take 1 it's likely over.
I’d go with Kochetkov in game 3. Not as an indictment of Raanta but the isles will bring jam to game 3 and kochetkov enjoys the emotion filled games… even seems to feed off it. 52 in game 3 then Raanta game 4
Not a great start for the Islanders. They usually don't get so many penalties, gotta get that under control.
Maybe things will be different now that they are going home. Hurricanes don't have a great track record on the road
I’ve never seen such lopsided power plays.
Too bad Cane's Aho didn't touch the puck last on the own goal. Would have been funny for Aho to get credit for Aho's goal.
