To be honest it’s probably better that they are being picky rather than rushing into something that isn’t right in the long term. I trust that this new management will get it done.
8 rinks was perfect. 8 freaking rinks that they can choose from and reserve any time. It’s also half way for the Abby Canucks. Just off the highway and don’t deal with the F up closed off traffic due to bike lanes that is downtown. Back in the days it was super easy to meet with players at 8 rinks. As a young fan playing at 8 rinks it was always a bragging that we played at the same place as the Canucks.
They’re too cheap to build but also too cheap to invest into someone else’s facility. It spells cheap all over.
What other team doesn’t have a practice rink aside from us?
I remember when the Pandemic started, they were pretty far into planning a practice and training facility that neighbored Rogers Arena, to the point where I was looking at estimating documents for bidding. Then Aquilini pulled out, citing the pandemic fanancials as the reason.
Low and behold, it was an extremely short sighted decision as they are still without a practice facility 3 years later. Assuming construction wasn’t too delayed, it would have been near ready by the start of next season.
There’s a huge empty lot right to the east of the Cambie St Bridge in Olympic Village between 1st and the water.
It literally makes so much sense to have it that close to the Canadaline for the community usage.
Source: I live 2.5 blocks from it.
There’s nothing wrong with 8 rinks, rink 1. I’m having my beer league finals there!
It’s not that crazy considering the cost of real estate, as well as the fact they already own Rogers arena.
Vancouver also isn’t a huge city, them practicing at UBC isn’t a huge inconvenience.
All that being said, obviously a dedicated practice rink would be the ideal scenario.
Yeah it sucks they don’t have one but I do find it funny thinking about pro athletes trying to find ice time between the Taylor swift concert and public skating.
technically he’s invested a lot in this team unfortunately most of it was wasted on benning’s all in to sneak in moves that never worked out. all his overpaid bottom pair and bottom six stallions.
It will happen the same time they change the arena seat colours, ie. Never
Canucks owners don’t have deep pockets in relation to other owners
He’d rather build a restaurant between the two locker rooms and move the medical room a few meters away from the benches than think about the team.
