I domt think they played like shit per say, Tampa adapt to the leafs style of being a tad to slow to break out of the D zone. So while i agree the Leafs D looked like shit and the whole getting hemmed in our end starts with them. Most teams not as talented or quick witted as Tampa allow the leafs to defend there way out of the zone. I don’t know why keefe isn’t addressing this in practice and to change the lay back style of when the opposing team has the pick in our end they need to be quicker and more effective of getting it to our offence so they can break out, but also when Tampa or whoever have the puck in our end we need to he very diligent and with haste we need to jump on that player so they don’t have until next Christmas to think of the next move. We are way to submissive with puck in our zone and if you watch teams like Boston or even Tampa and quite frankly most teams. They are coming at you full speed so you make a mistake with the puck and most importantly not be able to set up grade A opportunities while we sit back and play the ill block the pass or shot game and and it was letting tampa have so much room with the puck in our end that cost us every goal especially that go ahead goal by garret i believe, he was basically fresh from AHL ice. The thing is when the defence don’t play that style as much or maybe its the fact some games they can make the break out pass to our forwards without it being deflected or simply cannot muscle it out up the boards or lose races to the puck on the boards and when they don’tget caught in that nasty cycle and actually feed our forwards then we are among the top 3 dangerous offences in the league and if they have the puck and make plays and not just keep cycling it until the other team get it we play great. Our D need a new approach and should be made to watch the bruins play on tape for 24 hrs and they will come back a team that won’t get hemmed in their own zone all game. We reminded me im of the LA kings and how they play and still are winning the series against the Oilers. And LA are my second favourite team but they play the way we did last night and they are comfortable somehow doing it and letting Korpasolo get peppered with pucks from mcdavid and draisaitl all game. They have got lucky twice but they are playing with fire when that Edmonton core explodes and maybe they defend so well it won’t happen but it sure feels like its a second away from happening watching that great LA team play. Go Kings!
The leafs got some key scoring from Matthews. Accari, O’Reilly and Reilly and it was a beautiful thing ❤❤ But we need to come out in game 5 like a shark Sniffing Blood and jump all over Tampa with the desperation of game 2 every game going forward and this will be over in 5 or 6 max.
