What Are YOUR Thoughts On the Refs So Far in the 2023 NHL Playoffs? Do YOU Think They've Been Good OR Bad? I'd LOVE to Hear YOUR Thoughts! #GravGang #RoadTo70kSUBS
Age old that refs suck but they're out doing themselves this year…
instead of calling him for tripping why not just take both of them??? i dont get it the refs have been bad all playoffs this year
Wes McAuley!
Parise made contact before he was pushed – are you blind?
look at the Bruins vs Panthers series… Panthers were getting the quick whistles from refs and getting away with after play hits ect… Thachuk was fined for a nasty cross check well after the play… he should have gotten a 1 game suspension…
I’d love to see ref get fined for calls that are inevitably not calls
As a Stars fan, Foligno has been headhunting the entire series. He more or less got what he deserved. Minn is trying to bully the Stars because we're not a bunch of goons but Game 1 there were shitty calls against the Stars and a lot of missed calls against both teams but mostly Minnesota. Game 2 was actually way more consistent. Game 3 was again just another shit show of a game for officiating but Stars played like shit. Game 4 was the refs getting both teams reeled back in, mostly Minnesota. I think we should finally see the last 2 games be physical and clean. Something we haven't seen much of.
Suter's cross check on Kirill SHOULD have be called 100 out of 100 times. The fact that Foligno is complaining about the refs is fucking appalling. He has gotten away with so much this series.
I'm a Wild fan, and watching this series has been frustrating due to the reffing. It is going both ways, both the Stars and Wild have gotten really weird calls against them. I don't know if the Wild would have won that game 4 anyway, but Dallas's PP is insane, and the Wild's PK is desperately missing Joel Eriksson Ek, so the penalties favor Dallas because they're just straight up better at special teams. It's going to suck to see the Wild one and done again.
Good video, with a level headed take!
Hello new here I have watched many games this year in the playoff mode and as I watch my thought's only so far it seems like the whole NHL REFS need to re-watch NHL playoffs from the 80's and 90'S cause what there doing is like they don't know the rules from Regular season vs Playoff season or maybe the NHL REFS are paid off and they are choosing there favorite tames to make it to the final ( AKA) betting against the NHL to see if there team makes it to the NHL Final? MMMMMMMMM makes you wonder if these calls for penalties seems kind of fishy? Just sayin I think the NHL REFS should have to go back and re take there training and testing to become a NHL REF cause what there doing now is like watching a game in the AHL!!!! if that at best. If I was a betting person in sports I would say that some would be betting on games to see if there team makes it to the finals so they can work the Stanley Cup finals!!!!! at the end of the playoff series.
IMO your argument that its a good call for the regular season but not the playoffs is irrelevant. Should be the same no matter what.
The refs bailed out Makar last night after an extremely dirty hit. Makar should of been thrown out of the game and at least a game suspension.
Even in game 4 of Stars vs. Wild the bad call evened out. There was a terrible tripping call on Hakanpaa at the end that led to a goal. The Stars hot screwed by the refs plenty in game 1 but what it really comes down to is they didn't put the game away when they had multiple chances. Same for the Wild in game 4.
Maybe the Draft King commercials showing the odds on who will score the next goal has something to do………………..
The refs should call a penalty when there is a penalty period. I dont care what it is, they shouldn't be picking and choosing what a penalty is and isn't, thats not a fair way to ref a game because nobody knows what a penalty actually is. If they want to change the rules for the playoffs then do that, I hate that its all just subjective what a penalty should and shouldnt be in the playoffs, just ref the game fairly.
Whichever ref called that penalty should loose his lisence.
Don’t forget the fact that the refs had a clean camera angle of Corey Perry’s goal that never crossed the line in the leafs game 1 and they still called it a goal anyways
I just witnessed Nylander hold point for 7 seconds and no call.
Try having the refs we have in the shl here in Sweden and you north americans would never complain about your refs ever again
The worst part of the incompetent officiating is that when anyone in the NHL calls it out they get fined. It’s like being fined or fired for stating obvious facts. Though modern people don’t like facts and feelings are way more important, clearly Gary Buttman agrees.
@1:38 you realize that's a linesman right? Not a referee. Stick infractions are only ever called by the referees.
What especially annoys me is the Stars are better on penalty and penalty kill. The Wild make an adjustment to AVOID being in that situation, look how much cleaner the hitting was and how much more conservative and defensive they played, and the refs just create phantom penalties to make that effort useless. The Wild were actively punished for reigning themselves in and being more disciplined and it just sucks. Penalty and penalty kill are part of the game yes and Dallas does great with that, but the Wild had a good response that was ignored by the refs. It sucks because this series has been great from both teams and I feel like in almost every single game BOTH teams have weird shit with the refs.
Maybe Foligno wouldn’t get called as often if he wasn’t typically being a thug. When you’re being a goon game after game eventually you’ll find yourself getting called for simply being around.
The Boston-Florida series has been weirdly inconsistent. Florida is doing EVERYTHING THEY CAN to try to piss off Boston and get the penalties – including Gudas holding Marchand down repeatedly, constant after whistle cross checks and smacks, and then the refs keep randomly blowing pucks frozen when they are still loose.
Wednesday is going to be a bloodbath in Boston.
The reality is just that the refs have started officiating the games the same they would as in the regular season. It's kinda funny how mad people are getting at them for being more consistent. The idea that playoff hockey should have a different set of rules is so weird
You forgot the trip against Zuccarello that led to Minnesota getting within 1, where Hakanpaa literally touched mats’s outer thigh and he lost an edge and they called a trip
if isles get the right calls the they winning the cup
fox hold on meier should be on here
The best solution I've seen someone suggest is that the refs are required to be interviewed after the games to explain themselves. The league wants all the say and dictation to keep rules and whistles nebulous in their corner, so let them face the cameras and explain!
It's not that penalties are being called, it appears they are being called as momentum shifters, ie: Officiating the score not the game!
Oilers got away with a trip and it lead to Dreisidel's goal in game 4 as well. That was a trip in any other game!
I won't say Dallas didn't deserve to win that game, because with the way Oettinger was playing that would be laughably misguided, but the Wild 100% didn't deserve to loose it on 2 power play goals off of BS calls.
I want a penalty issued for all commenters that don't know the difference between they, their, there and they're and to, too, two! It is an atrocity upon the English language!
What sucks is these are the people that fail their way up in the work environment and end up somehow supervising people who got English the first time through (or second) the 3rd time may be a charm for the rest!
The Toronto/TB series refs have been AWFUL! Game 3 for sure. Blowing the puck dead after "losing sight"…..that was rough. But I suppose after seeing TB pee down their leg game 4, they would have probably done that with the extra goal in game 3.
The officiating is making some of these games really hard to watch. I don't understand why they seem to think that not calling penalties is not having an influence on the game. I understand not wanting to dictate the outcome, but your just doing it a different way when you let calls go.
True, we need some accountability for these refs. As a Wild fan, I think game 4 would've been ours to win if the officiating was better, but at the same time, the refs took away a lot of attention that Oettinger deserved for having some unbelievable saves and if the Stars had won deservingly, that should've been the big story of the game. We ragged on y'all for diving a lot in the first few games, and to your credit, that's stopped being as big a deal in my eyes. The hockey is great, so here's to hoping the refs get out of the way from here on out.
As a Dallas fan I can say there have been some bad calls and missed calls on both sides. This has been an ugly series in general, I think that's just the Wilds game (chippy/physical). The interference call and the tripping call just seemed like the refs way of say we aren't going to allow Foligno to run players. Maybe I'm bias.
The fact the Dumba has played every game while Michael Bunting got suspended for 3 for a much less egregious hit should sum up the playoffs. Yes I’m a Stars fan. The refs are doing literally everything wrong in most series, but it seems especially the Stars vs. Wild one.
