Agreed, he doesn't like young players very much. Loves his vets. That's definitely his biggest weakness, especially when you want to keep competitive year after year.
Fire this relic in Darryl and move on
Coach Cowherder will finish the mission and totally cook the Goose 😢 afterwards he will be fired and then he will take his long deserved walk in the Yellow snow ❄️
Phillips did not show well. He wasn't fast either. He didn't look anyway near as good as pelletier and duehr did. I know he didn't get a long look but he did not look that good
There is something to be said about relying on vets. But that's only when they're effective. I thought looch has been better than we expected, but that bar was very low, and pellts or zary would've been much more helpful in the lineup than him. That's just one example, daryll gave us many of them.
I agree with both of them. He's not a bad coach, not by a long shot. I just think it's time for him to move on. This isn't the team for him to be coaching.
The problem for Calgary is their drafting, Every other team has had a first overall pick flames haven’t , they are never bad enough for good picks but always middle of the pack where all the muckers are
When the team isn't playing great, out of or barely in the playoffs, fans always look to the minors for a savior to be brought up.. But maybe there is no savior – the coaches have had the minor leaguers in camp, have seen them play and judged them not as good at the players on the team. Pelletier was the fave of sports media and fans, but couldn't score in the bigs.
who cares about the Atlanta Flames anyways LOL
they have two many old players on big ticket contracts. How do they dum;p cap space now? They dont
Look at all the teams that have just stripped things down and rebuilt from scratch through the draft. I mean look at the early success that both Vegas and Seattle are having so early on in their Franchise history. You can call it tanking I guess, but the fact is it works. Chicago Kane/Toews, Edmonton McDavid,/Draisaitle/ Nugent-Hopkins, Tampa Bay Stamkos, Colorado Mackinnon/Makar, Toronto Mathews, Marner. All guys who came from picking high in the draft for a few years, the Flames easily could have used this year to bring up the youth and treat it as a development year. We could have easily Flipped Huberdeau for some draft picks, given Phillips, Pelletier, Duehr, Ruzicka a full year to develop with the big club. Even if we kept Huberdeau we still could have injected youth into this team. It was clear that Markstrom needed time to get his game settled, maybe a season where it's not Playoffs or bust, to let him get back into his rythm (grasping at straws a little on this one). Maybe even have a chance at Bedard, or basically any of those top 5 players. Could have added some solid long term talent for virtually nothing. And still have one of the best defence cores in the league
Rhett likes to give credit where credit is due, but he also pulls no punches where he sees an injustice, and I appreciate it. It's honesty in the raw, not tempered by company standards of etiquette, just says it like he sees it. Of course it's his opinion. Personally I trust it, he'd have no reason to bullshit about those things. 👍
yeah buddy! awesome take brother.
