@Maple Leafs de Toronto

Biggest chokers in the history of sports. Ever. These stats coming out today are unconscionable. Buffalo and the 4 straight superbowls may rival it, but at least they won games to get there.
There is such a thing as toxic positivity, and people telling others to chill are such a headache. Its been 7 fucking years people. You can say whatever you want about Tampa was never going to lose 4 in a row or whatever – lets use empirical data and look at this teams performance the last 7 years (fuck, you could go longer) when they can close out the series.

Nothing is going to change. The series is over. Tampa has won. You cannot look at the past and see it any different. Go ahead and tell me I’m a bad fan. To me, its just being a good fan because I have seen it. Its over. And this team has to be blown up.

Gonna be 1/40,000 in a few days!

This is what happens when your goaltending isn’t good enough. Saw it again last night. We should have at least gone to OT at 1-1. Instead we lost because of 2 soft goals.

  4. NopeItsDolan

I wonder if it’s an open secret among other players that the leafs are a joke. They won’t say it to the media but they talk to each other about it.

  5. djlista

You see the way we are.

Is Boston or carolina panicking? Nope. We just know the outcome of our series the story never changes

Under 10,000? Those are rookie numbers. You gotta pump those numbers up.

  7. RattledRed

    Who gives a shit.

They are gonna win game 6 and then all of this can get thrown in the bin.

  8. sometimesalwaysnope

There is a rationale explanation for why this is: Giving the core the flush contracts before getting results in big, high pressure, playoff games has created an additional layer of pressure they can’t seem to overcome.

It’s not to say they aren’t worth their contracts. It’s just to say that it’s created a dynamic unlike any other team by rewarding their players on what they will do, not what they have done.

Hopefully the O’Reilly factor is enough to overcome it this time.

  9. NevyTheChemist

The leafs are going to have another leafs moment.

  10. thevoiceinsidemyhead

hey i’m not going to lie that’s kind of impressive..how far can we take this thing? I guess only to 13 this season but beyond that the sky is the limit!

  11. JamesCurtis24

The Leafs are the worst pro sports team post 1967, and I don’t think it’s even close.

  12. lionheart4life

What are the odds when you add in two more? 🙁

  13. XingYunLiuShui

Let the losing return. Playoff exits are the warm smells and tastes of my youth. Lack of killer instinct is fresh made pumpkin pie. Invisible forwards are soft chocolate chip cookies. A defenseman with goat horns, leads not taken or salted away, the way opposing forth liners become hall of famers. Fresh baked bread wafting through the kitchen. Leafs post seasons are my comfort food. When it’s all done, the hats are pulled down low and the cliches mumbled one last time. Frankly, I wouldn’t know what to do if we were winners.

  14. jokeswagon

Yea big change will come if they don’t advance this time.

  15. Alextryingforgrate

So youre saying bet the farm because they are due?

    DONE AND DONE!!!!!

  16. Canadop

What are the odds Tampa loses all their home games? Game 7 is a guaranteed 3-0 loss.

  17. Kabuki37

If you go back through each of the games in this streak in 75% of the games they basically have given up a free goal or two through allowing a terrible goal or a house league defensive play.

Again last night specifically on the second goal.

Its hard to win in the playoffs when you give the opponents a free goal or two every game.

  18. Judge_Rhinohold

If they dress Justin Holl they’ll lose the next two as well.

  19. FonziesCousin

I spent $2k going to game 7 last year.

I spent $2k going to game 5 last night.

I’m going to sell my Game 7 ticket.

If I want the same utility for that $2k I can get a dominatix to put my balls in a steel vice and whip my back and punch my face with brass knuckles.

and spit in my face because she thinks it’s disgusting I come back again and again for the same punishment.

  20. Vallum-Reddit

And people still think this shit isn’t fixed. LOL

Ever wonder why these Leafs are so good at 5v6? Yes, it is because they’re extremely talented, but also because they don’t have to win puck possession in those situations. The goalie is pulled when they *already have* possession, and keeping the puck is a lot easier with 5 outlets desperately looking to shoot.

Likewise, most of the very same talented players show pathetic forechecking effort. Yes, even the Golden Boy Matthews is like Willy and Mitch: fighting puck battles like he’s scooping an icky critter out of the swimming pool. If your best players can’t dump and chase, you’re basically stuck playing an opportunistic game in the playoffs, when opponents fight a lot harder behind the net and interference is called infrequently.

So it’s no surprise these teams lose when it matters and when they should otherwise win; they simply don’t give a fuck.

  22. GQMatthews

Honestly shut it with these stats. That record is still abysmal wether we win this year or not so throw it out the window. This is fear-inducing like all the president trophy winners bowing out stats that are riling up B’s fans. I get it, we ALL get it, we need to win just 1 fucking game playing true and tough. If anything all these past stats point to it finally happening, but even then who cares? New players, different team, different season, different bounces.

  23. Matrix17

I’m more invested in keeping this record going than actually giving a shit about the team at this point

We may not win a cup, but God damn it we’re going to be setting records

  24. Beersmoker420

absolutely everything about the team has changed outside of the core players minus Rielly who seems to show up a lot.

Marner Matthews are basically not elite players in closeout games. Whatever it is seems to be mental. Matthews cant hit the broad side of a barn all game but get a goal too little too late. They just can’t execute properly when it comes down to elimination

Regular season Matthews would have scored 3 goals last night. Marner with terrible giveaways. Justin Holl isnt even a « core » part of the team yet Keefe seems to think he is. Tampa sees him on the right side and just attack him everytime. Its been 5 games and no adjustment from Keefe

I will say it one last time. This is the best team Dubas will ever be able to put together around this core. Anyone not expecting an organizational blow up if they lose round 1 is delusional, and you have to seriously entertain trading one of Matthews or Marner. These guys have shown enough time over the years their ability to wilt to pressure. Not as bad before but still not good enough. It’s like they’re scared to choke, so they choke.

Our team has no depth because we overpay our stars (and we overpay for stars because the merchandise sales translate into being the most profitable franchise in sports regardless of wins). Our fans are suckers.

    [Here’s Boston’s cap breakdown](https://i.imgur.com/fLnnvzl.png)

(They set a new record for wins in the NHL season this year.)

    [And here’s Toronto.](https://i.imgur.com/l1ysHPf.png)

Our four most paid players take up 50% of our salary cap meanwhile in Boston, it takes six players to cover 50%.

Does our GM know what year it is? There’s a salary cap you donkey, this is the 21st century NHL.

    Gambler’s Fallacy.

Just because a coin came up heads 10x in a row, the odds are still 50-50 on the 11th toss.
