  1. As always, Gil, your analysis is money and right on point.

I was at work for the first three periods, but I did went to the bar after work to watch the overtime. It would be easy to blame Pulock for turning the puck over or call out Ilya for not making that save or not be aware where Stastny's puck was heading to, but what you said about the Islanders playing with fire by trying to hold serve at 1-0 is actually right on. This is Lou Lamoriello hockey for you, Gil, which is another reason why I want him out. You can't win 1-0 games anymore or try to play not to lose in today's hockey. It just does not work. The Islanders went to the well a lot last season with no success, and it was fitting that it burned them once again in the end.

  2. Sadly lost in all this is isles now officially at 40 year cup drought. 40 years since cup four in a row. 40 years now…. 1983-mj ruled the charts. Isles ruled nhl and told the rest of nhl to 'beat it'. 17 different nhl teams have lifted the cup in that time. So long ago now…

  3. Ok no surprise we all know that this is coming we are ready.. this team is joke when you are playing for your life in front of your crowd and you are out shouted 19 to5 in third period by Caolinas half missing team that tell you everything…. have good summer and pray that Lou are replaced together with coach LGI❤️

  4. Gil, we are in serious trouble here. We have NOTHING to trade! Free agency this summer is weak and with this draft being as deep as it is, we have no 1st round pick, no difference making prospects AND no players any team would want!!! We're Fucked! I said a month or 2 before the deadline Lou needed to sell, acquire as many 1st 2nd round picks as possible and have a soft yet strong off season by drafting and trading picks (not the highest pick) for real goal scorers and a mobile Dman or 2! Of course it would take 2 or 3 seasons to be at our peak, improving each off-season and or deadline while seeing the team improve all the while!I and all of us for that matter KNEW we needed to change whomever runs the PP as well! Losing this game hurts because of that FALSE HOPE this team gives us! At times we were the better team! 2-4 more PP goals in those 6, we advance, Instead of just 1…ONE FUCKING PP GOAL IN 6 GAMES!!! This Bend but don't break BULLSHIT ATTITUDE in the 3rd period lost us the game and the series!!! I'm done, gotta cool off

  5. Rich Pilon good player….but any of our players that go to play for rangers they are no Islanders any more …Flatley Kasparaitis Malakhov Feraro LaFontaine….

  6. Another spot on show Gil. Well my age will show and I’ve said it numerous times, ive been an isles fan since 77, seen the bad, the good, the great, the bad, the pretty good and now the disappointing ! Ownership needs to address the failures immediately but I don’t think they will. The owners want UBS filled and they got it, fans knew halfway thru the season we’d be lucky to see the playoffs and if we did, we’d be lucky to get out of the 1st round. The Canes were missing their top players so winning the ones we did just put off the golf season. I’d love to see the exit interviews and hear what the players tell ownership when they say goodbye for the season. There were epic failures and I’ll start at the top. Ownership shouldn’t resign Lou, his contract is up and so is his time here and that goes with his kid also, gotta clean house, they didn’t get enough out of each team and they sold youth and picks for the moment too many times. Next we have Lame, he was handed a decent team, solid D but challenged offensively, he destroyed the D, he told them to play way past their capabilities by being offensive and it killed us. Dobson regressed, actually they all did, Aho is not an everyday player, he can play AHL and be available for call ups but that’s it. Lee, not a Capt and it’s time for him to go, I could t care less about the team’s commitment to community affairs, I’m playing to watch hockey and not pats on the back. Clutter came back from the injuries but it’s his time to go, Fashing can have that spot. Barzal needs a shrink to get his head back to shooting and to stop figure skating and turning the puck over. Horvat, what can I say, under achieved. Mayfield, shoulda been traded, he played well and like crap on and off all season. Casey and Martin did their jobs except for Matt’s stupid penalty, they can stay. The PP the last 4-5 years has been abysmal and the coaches for those years were ex devils ! The isles need leadership and youth and it’s gonna be hard cuz of the long contracts. Palmieri played well at times but it’s fine to go, Pags, coin flip, Pelech should be on the market and if there’s a decent player or pick for him, get rid of him, same for Mayfield. Ughhh now I gotta listen to my brother and nephew yap till the Rangers are eliminated by the Devils. The devils should be the blueprint for the next isles GM, a good mix of leadership and youth ! Same as the Sabre’s !

  7. Im worried chris lamorillo will take over and it will be several years of the same old fashion GM work. They need a young hungry GM.

  8. At least it could have gone either way they put up a good fight. They played too conservative in the third you can't play to tie in the playoffs. Unfortunately the first goal just like the last game should have been frozen by serokin. But i cant blame him. He kept this team goin all year. Now you have to go back and review the season and I don't think they're going to like what they find.

  9. Seemed like Carolina was on the PP the entire game.
    Hard to watch this one.
Going to be interesting to see the off-season maneuvers

  10. Thank you for being my daily listen every morning throughout the year. Your passion and love for the isles was obvious . The way you delivered the daily cast was great listening. You definitely enhanced my experience watching the games. Thank you for doing your job amazing!

  11. Still proud of the Islanders for making the playoffs, standing toe to toe against a great Carolina squad, and setting an NHL postseason record! Hopefully the right changes are made to get them back to the playoffs and to win a Stanley Cup. Gil, thank you again for a great season of analysis, you rule!

  12. Lane should’ve played Varlamov more. He had the best goalie tandem in the NHL to work with. Hr overworked, Sorokin and tired him out before the playoffs.

Sorokin Was tied for fifth in the NHL for game starts. That shouldn’t be the case when you have Varly as your back up.

  13. At least I got a good laugh last night. I had joked that the Isles did better when I didn't watch the game live. Since I was out last night, I didn't watch or check the score. I got home thinking the game must be over and turned the TV on. As I grabbed a beer I hear MSG and turned just in time to see that funky winning goal! I couldn't stop laughing.

We all knew the Isles weren't going to challenge for a cup, but this series was BRUTAL to watch. Is it my imagination or did the Isles play 6 games and show less than 2 periods, in total, of good offense? But when they were on it, they looked like giant killers. The decisions were quick, the passing was accurate and they moved as a unit. They scored some sweet goals in this series. IMO, Lane did better against the Canes than Trotz did in 2019. Thers are a lot of circumstances connected to the Isles taking it to 6, but it seems like Lanes system gave the Canes some problems Trotzs system didn't. Who knows.

The Isles are in for a long stretch of bleak years of not being good enough for long runs, but being good enough to avoid a high pick. If ownership doesn't catapult Yoda into retirement, it will be even uglier as the years pass. This is depressing.

  14. We need to trade for zegras. Would revamp our lines and he fits with barzal and Horvat in first line

  15. They. Are. Not. Good. Enough. —–EXACTLY GIL!!!!! Three best game was Game 6, really. That 2nd period was the best they had looked all year. But they couldn't keep it up. Too old, too many players waaay past their prime.
And that's when they're a playing a MASH unit in Carolina. Look for the Canes to lose in 5 or less next round. This franchise has been decimated by Poo Pamoriello.

Where you go off the rails here Gil, is the Isles didn't simply "take their foot off the gas". They aren't good enough to control play any longer than what they did, and that's in large part because the Palmieri's, the Parise's, the Lee's, the Cizikas's, the Clutterbuck's, the Nelson's: the men that carried the play for 10 minutes in the 2nd HAVE NO GAS LEFT IN THE TANK BECAUSE THEY'RE ALL GERIATRIC IN THE NHL!!!!!!

  16. You're right, bottom line is we don't have enough offense. We needed more from players like Parise, Pageau, Horvat, and even Lee. I'm with some of the commentors here…I think we need a change at GM.

  17. Unfortunately the Islanders best player lets in a soft one at the worst moment. Sorokin will bounce back. This reminds me of when Luongo let in a blooper in OT to be eliminated the Ducks in 2007. Luongo was our Canucks MVP that year (47 wins, Hart Finalist) so it's definitely a heartbreaking way to end the season.

  18. Good morning team. Gil, thank you for your analysis. I enjoy your podcast so much and now that the season for the Isles is over, I'll still look forward to your show. The Canes did what they needed to do and finally got the tying goal. In overtime I was still very optimistic. I'm not upset that the Canes won the game. I think the Islanders played well enough to win, but playing for a tie is NOT the most creative ways to win a hockey game. I can't get over the goal that beat us. The puck was shot from roughly the goal line, hit the inside right leg pad of Sorokin and into the net. That hurt and I was in disbelief. Something definitely needs to happen with the team during the offseason. Firings, moving players, what ever. Starting with management for sure. That's it for now. I don't want to bash the team I love too much lol. Everyone, enjoy the rest of the playoffs and have a great rest of your weekend!

  19. I think they should bring in laviolette to coach the team, as far as our roster wahlstrom coming back will be huge, clutterbuck can walk as fasching should replace him on line 4, definitely resign engval and try to get off Bailey and one more bad contract, need another top 6 forward (under 30) and a puck moving defenseman to replace aho and I think we can make another run. Lee should never play on line one ever again he is an anchor for horvat and barzal.

  20. Nailed it. Simply not good enough. The worrisome thing is the defense regressed. We all expected not to be able to score with our lack of skill, but pelech had been pretty bad all year. Something happened with dobson too. Lee demonstrates no type leadership or urgency, ever. You need to roll some heads this off season. True fans know this rebuild is long overdue.

  21. They really need a scoring threat. I feel, in my opinion Hovart was a move out of desperation because he’s a center. He had a few decent games but looked lost otherwise. Lou is a dinosaur, the game has changed and he hasn’t, Lambert is a vanilla as can be and lacks any imagination or creativity for the team. Is that a result of the lack of talent on the offense I think it contributed and Dobson took a giant step backwards to the point he was a liability. It looks like they have a ton of work to do going forward which means ANOTHER attempt at a possible rebuild. In my opinion other than Sorokin being great the islanders are terribly average and lack consistency. They played a great game last night BUT AGAIN they couldn’t score. They can have 100 shots but if you can’t finish them they don’t count.

  22. Can’t play with no lack of urgency one game and then play with your backs against the wall the next. All year consistency was an issue. That is on the coaching staff. I can go on and on on who I think needs to go and who should stay but I’m not a gm. I just hope to see a move towards improving the team and hopefully Ledecky stops being so enamored with Lou and realizes he needs to move on from him. So disappointed in them and the playing safe with a 1-0 lead against a team like the Canes.

  23. I think it might be more of a problem that we can't pass the puck than score it smh 🤦🏽‍♂️
