And… I did watch the Interviews, I watched them live and listened to the comments. I heard the jazzed out reporters because TSN didn’t want to turn the audio off during the live feed as the pause between players allowed the viewer to hear the reporters comments. A few of the journalists were getting riled up to my pleased chagrin, not that I could identify any in particular. Take it for the team was my thought on all the grief they give the players during the season. I suspect there was a reason for this, keeping the mics hot, I am just not sure what.
My take away from it all?
This team is tight. The room is tight. They want to stay together. They don’t want to be traded. They want the core to be united. They have bought into Bones, he’s challenged them and he has their backs against the wall, which is where he wants them. Fighting, wanting to prove something, hungry.
The team wants to stay a team. I mean, maybe they should. One more year.
One interesting take away,… Quite a few players felt it would be an honor to stay with one organization for an entire career. Dillion had a great perspective on this, his interview is a fun watch, smart player, articulate.
I am ok giving them one more year. Bones said it best; They had no push after winning first spot in the Conference and I think Bones fucked up here and pushed them to hard. I think Bones broke the team during the stretch and had to dial it Waaaaaaay back after the team went completely tone deaf. Bones broke their confidence. Which is in part why he is saying they have no push back. So,… now that he has their damn attention and everyone is on the same page, lets see what one more year can do.
It took a lot to break the 8 or whatever years of crap Pomo put on them and it took a season to fix it. Bones did that. Lets see what he can do with the team now. We keep Helleybuck, we keep a lot of players who don’t want to stay if they even smell a rebuild. This sounds like a team that finally has the chemistry and wants the cup.
Respectfully, I disagree. We need at the very least a re-tool. We need to start getting younger and not older. We also need to address some weakness is our team.
If we run it all back we will likely make playoffs and again fizzle out. Maybe we make it to the second round. That’s great!
And then? We have to find:
A) 1C
B) 2C
C) 2W
D) 2/3W
E) 2LHD
F) Starter
G) Backup
Watching the NHL is like watching the NBA. The outside noise/drama is more entertaining than the actual sport. I spent more time watching YouTube analysis of the Bowness rant than watching actual hockey. Add in the TN « threat » to relocate the Jets and I’m even less interested in watching hockey now!
I loved his post-game presser. He said what needed to be said and was emotional. I had a lot of respect for that stand. He kept it in as long as possible. I did lose much of that respect today when he folded like a cheap suit. Only explanation is that he wants a job here next year and was told to « fix this or there’s the door! ». Too bad. This is the reality we all bitch about every game!
Just finished listening to the interviews.
1. This core is done, finished, kaput! Everyone is assuming the players want to chase the stanley cup… together. Not true. It is clear that it is every player for themselves, and that the correct interpretation is that NOBODY wants to be part of a Jets rebuild.
2. As per #1, expect a wholesale line change in the next year. If Chevy doesn’t, it’s just going to add years to the rebuild process. At this point, let’s just cut everyone loose.
3. Ownership and management made a decade long bet on Wheeler and Scheifele – they lost, big time. Now it’s a matter of whether they’re going to cut their losses while there’s still some equity in the team, or if they continue down this path and get margin called.
4. As per #3, I believe ownership and Chevy were naive to think they could continue this same core, given that they are giving Chevy a 13th season, it is clear that they either are stubborn as F or they were amateurs all along. I believe it’s a mix of the two at this point.
Royally pissed.
If they could somehow turn 26 and 80 into solid defenseman I think the Jets would be a much better team.
Everyone keeps harping on about the forwards when the team has a pitiful defense.
