Sutter goes back to the farm with $8 million. Not a bad deal for him

  2. SpitfireFan

Really too bad. He must have lost the room as he’s still the best coach we’ve had in 30+ years with no close second. Hope the team somehow keeps Chris Sutter.

Regardless of what you think of him this is a sad day. If this season had gone anywhere near expectations this wouldn’t be happening.

Does he deserve some blame for the season being a shit show? Absolutely.

Is it all his fault? Absolutely Not

Darryl is the best coach this team has ever had but hopefully a new voice can get through to this new core group of players and get the most of them, just like Darryl did for the team last year

Exit interviews probably said a lot especially with all the headlines lately there has to be some truth to it… kind of excited to see how Huberdeau and Kadri play under a different coach… maybe there’s a chance

Now let’s fire Muller and bring up Mitch Love

  6. Chronixx

Had to be done. There was too much toxicity surrounding him and the organization. Seemed a good guy, and his game plan actually still does work in today’s NHL but the way he carries himself and how he treats his players just isn’t conducive to success. Good luck to him

  7. RICHAPX

The only choice really. Start over

Not that Darryl needed it, but that’s a nice retirement cheque.

    The carousel of coaches continues..

I was expecting that they wouldn’t figure out what to do with Sutter until a GM was hired, but I’m glad that Maloney and the rest of management held true to their word about reviewing everything. It was clear that the players had major issues with Sutter. Getting a fresh voice on the bench will do wonders for this team. I think the guys got a much needed morale boost from this, which was one of the key things that needed to happen this offseason. I’m really excited to see what this does for Huberdeau.

    Absolutely shocked, happy but shocked

You guys got what you wanted. I sincerely hope you’re right about this one. I’d like to see Mitch Love in there. He’ll get hired somewhere else if we don’t.

Sutter was brought in to bring a team that was on the verge closer to winning a Stanley Cup… that is not the team this is now, and it was the right decision for both sides. I don’t blame Sutter for what happened last season like a lot of people do though.

Probably needed to be done, but it’s a sad day.

He’s the main reason we won a round in 2022, and were somewhat a contender. He certainly was far from perfect, but he was also vastly better than Gulutzan/Ward/Peter’s

Let’s hope we can find another great coach, and this time someone who can keep a locker room for more than a season

The reality is there’s just too much blame to go around and too many people that need to own it. Last season was a freak year stats wise, but people still need to be held accountable and both the players and coaches are at fault.

I know people have wanted to shit on Sutter, and personally I think we need to move on from him, but it is still a shitty feeling. Shows how messed up things are.

It’s a shame how things went down this year but ultimately this is for the best. If your best players are considering leaving due to the coach then he’s gotta go. Thanks for the memories of 21-22, Darryl, that was some of the best Flames hockey I’ve seen up until round two lol.

  17. TEJISSAJATT

Now Kirk is next our power play was so bad. We need proper coach who doesn’t rely on 1 goal games and chip the puck in and chase. No great offensive sets

  18. GrafNebelgeist

Pretty surprised, but also not surprised. Best wishes moving forward, Sutter. Still like the guy despite the underwhelming results this year. Great family guy. Hopefully Chris can still come to the games!

  19. Thumper86

Someone tell Treliving there’s a job opening for GM in Calgary!

  20. jonos360

I wonder if this means Lindy re-ups. He’d look good with another C on his jersey.

  21. ZathanGo

Praying Lindholm stays, I really don’t think trading that guy is a good idea. Maybe a new coach can build a system where him and Huby click. Number one centres of his calibre are extremely hard to come by

  22. iggyisgoat

Shocked they actually did it. It’s the right move I’m just stunned they would fire him with all that money owed.

Hoping they don’t mess up the GM and coach hires

  23. R3dDvil

I havn’t seen any players stand up for him.

  24. Schafs021082

Man I hope we nail it with our next coach. The team has so much potential right now
