Scared the Bajeezus out of me. For a second I was worried that Robert Saleh had just betrayed everything I thought about him.
Gotta disagree on this one emma. While this guy is probably an ass, He is the coach, its his job to kick his players in the ass, and blast them publicly if he believes they werent giving their full potential. The NHL is famous for coachs and players giving milk-toast, non-answers to nearly every question from the media.
For better for or for worse, it was refreshing to see SOMEONE in the NHL show some emotion, and give an honest answer to the media.
I hope that this coach doesnt get blasted too hard, because guess what, everyone else in the NHL will see that, and continue giving the DULLEST interviews in pro sports.
PS. Theyre pro-athletes, this isint a group of kids he's reprimanding.
Jets fan here. The culture around this team is terrible. Blake Wheeler has been a huge dressing room problem for years. Bobby Hull’s number is still in the rafters and their GM as was the assistant in Chicago and in the room when Kyle Beach’s assault was brought to their attention yet someone how still has a job.
This team was i first place in January and if Calgary win one game they miss the playoffs.
Also this is the third coach in 18 months this group has had.
He didn't blame his players, he said he was disgusted with their effort – nobody thinks that he was lying when he said that. He was clearly disgusted with their effort. You might be offended but I highly doubt that his statement was contrived. He wanted more, and he'll hold them to that.
You might think that you can motivate a group of men by telling them that you love them unconditionally, and it's only a game, and all that matters is that they did their best, but this isn't preschool. They literally have to go out there and fight for ever inch of that ice, if they don't want to fight, then they won't advance, they'll be man handled shoved to the ground and sat on.
I'm not a Jets fan person. However, that team has had effort issues for quite a few years. Multiple players have left in the last 4/5 years. Is that Winnipeg or just personel issues. I've thought they should have been better for quite some time.
The only clowns I see are the two clueless talking heads in this video. If players don't play hard enough that's 100% on them. The coach isn't on the ice and the coach doesn't decide who's on the team. It's the GM's fault that a dead-weight loser like Wheeler is still on the Jets.

One point of contention: the first iteration of the Winnipeg Jets moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1996 and are now the Arizona Coyotes. The current iteration of the Winnipeg Jets were the Atlanta Thrashers, an expansion team that played its first game in 1999 and relocated to Winnipeg (and became the Jets) in 2011.
Bowness was an Associate coach for the Coyotes (the old Jets) from 1999-2006, also serving as Interim Head Coach in 2004.
For what it's worth Martin St. Louis is a new coach hired in the last couple seasons and while the Canadiens have been bad under him it's not been because of him. He's getting more from the team he has than anyone can reasonably ask of him.
